OMG, waterworld, they are planning for it
What? no comments?
ah, the caravan of the seas
ummm ok?
5th!!!!!
6th! >_>
Is it me or does she keep shaking her shoulders around?
this looks awesome :D a self sustaining boat i find it very cool :D
its awesome!
yeah,,, this idea is somewhat like going back to the past. it is a wise solution, however i still think a modern and innovative solution can still work.
She’s really hot! And on topic; this looks awesome! I’d like one of those:) and a rocket car of course…
1:02..
That thing would be great if zombies took over the planet. Just saying…
aren’t those laptops for small third world children.
Why is Ella not our normal Rocketboom newscaster? She’s great.
shit, I want chickens…
You can live eco-friendly without it looking like a dump… they could have at least painted the inside of that dome.
I’m pretty sure zombies were the interior designers of this thing.
great!
i wonder where they get their water from
I was hoping they would not say they fertilize the tomatos with feces from toilet and I left satisfied.
Ella is absolutely beautiful.
As far as the comment about sea level rise, there is none. I like the concept but they should do it despite the FACT that Global Warming is a falicy.
it looks so fun, pretty interesting too
I can think of worse ways to live, that’s for sure…
eh not my cup of tea but cant hate on anyone who chooses to live like that. just hope your boat doesnt sink or you dont hate the people you live with.
Yeah me too, chickens are awesome.
Shut up, and bring Ellie or Joanne on instead!!!
she’s good host :/
Function over form. Paint isn’t a chemical brew that is inline with the ideas these 4 people are experimenting with.
Most paint isn’t eco-friendly. Why bother with aesthetics when the raw material is sufficient.
Houses are painted inside and out to keep nature from interacting with the walls, and for looks. Looks are a personal preference. No paint needed on a plastic panel.
Damn she looks good in that dress
peepod
chickens are legel in NY, are there US states that illigalizerd chickens?
I’d like to be a hermit (at least for a while) on one of these self-sustainable ships. :D
no,but a lot of animals require a lot of special licenses and such.
I’d skull fuck the shit out of her.
Wisconsin, only in town though.
Well most large cities and even some smaller ones do not allow livestock inside city limits.
TO THE POD!
would be nice for hippies but not gamers
Pretty cool.
WATER WORLD.
im ela morton and youve been watching rocketbewm
“Your Woman. My Woman! Your Wife - AN EYEFUL?”
http://www.voicesnet.org/displayonepoem.aspx?poemid=158618
Rededicated to FORMER California Assemblyman Mike Duvall and his new found youtube celebrity! Wondering about that eye patch?
lol Basically live in garbage.
BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As someone who sailed across the Atlantic, I can attest to the fact that living on the water for any appreciable amount of time will confer an explicit understanding of conservation and minimalist living.
I urge anyone who is serious about the environment to take a long trip on a sailboat. It’s not only fun and an adventure, it is also quite eye-opening.
It’s also a great way to lose weight. I lost 25 pounds in the process!
lol hippie nerds have the craziest ideas
I’d go anywhere with you, Ella..
Again this ugly red hair. And again another booooooooring piece of *******.
I want this for during the zombie apocalypse.
She has glitter… on her face…
Give me a break!
“Everything that comes onto the waterpod must be recyclable.”
WTF? How about the diesel that boat uses?
Is this one of those “only in New York” things?
Diesel burning hippys!
OMFG!
Yes, I seriously doubt they are completely self sufficient. Also lol 90% of food. This is a decent first step to show what CAN be done however. It can go much further.
Left 4 Dead 4 Real
Also I’d make tender love to her >:3
I grow a lot more food, in dirt, in a smaller area.
ok, I guess in NYC there is not much room for a garden.
But what about a Community Garden?
That would be a much better idea. A group of people getting together, to cooperatively gain access to some land, as house block size is all you would need, then prep the soil, by hand! With a fork, no rotary hoe!
Then sow some seed, tend the patch and eat the produce.
This kind of project because it is not very accessible to most people.
Hell yeah!
This is just so idealistic!
Where do they get their diesel from?
The nutrients for the hydroponics?
I would have applauded a community garden, but this is so pie in the sky, rich hippy bullshit!
Sorry, but I grow more food than that, in a smaller space and I don’t burn any diesel!
Another thing, the 5 month span of this project, I just bet they would not want to spend a winter on that boat!
This boat is NOT self sustainable!
Where does the diesel come from?
or the hydroponic nutrients?
or the water they initially filled their tanks with?
How about any kind of meat, dairy product, coffee, tea, flour, sugar?
You would need a pretty big boat to grow enough produce to barter for all the things you would need.
Nice idea, but misleading.
Absolutely!
I have a hard time with this, it’s so pie in the sky!
What about the diesel that boat burns?
I grow a lot of my own food, recycle stuff from hard rubbish collection piles and I do it without burning any diesel.
Props, Ellen! Good job. Good story!
Chill Nelson
Apparently they don’t burn any fuel. It’s powered by wind, solar and water generators. But they still need a boat to tow it. This is mainly a proof of concept though, showing what CAN be done fairly simply. Hopefully it expands and renews interest in floating cities.
hydroponic garden YES!!! future here i come!!!
1:43 “Chickens are legal in New York City..”
Uhm… are chickens banned anywhere in the US?
I call dibs oin the waterpod when the all the ice caps melt…..
at 3:44 I can see flies on the “couch”
Hey, very fascinating, this barge. I didn’t fully connect the founder’s statement between “nobody was thinking of rising seas” to the existence of this barge. Does that mean this barge is some prototype for when we start losing land that people can live on the sea? Or is it a demonstration of what we should be doing more of to reduce emissions? Very cool either way!
I know I’m a real dweeb for noticing/mentioning this, but those double toilet seats are very, very close to each other.
Over 5 999 999 996 dead bodies.
well maybe in some metropolitan areas
i think he means they’re legal to keep in your yard or on your property, which isn’t allowed in a lot of cities, probably for sanitary reasons.
I cant wait for the world of The Windwaker(Zelda) fucking loved that game.
Interesting how political ideologies are locally varying cover ups for the same inner predisposition, apocalyptic fixation in this case. These people are New Yorkers, hence they arrange the environmentally sustainable peacenick version of Noah’s ark.
If they were from Texas or Arizona now they would be stuffing their houses with guns, zillions of ammunitions and gallons of fuel, drugs, tinned food, batteries and electric generators to be prepared to the general imminent disruption of society. And as soon as Ella and RB camaraman dared to trespass for an interview, they would unleash the dobermans.
The toilet could use Mickey EARS. They keep your tush protected from obscene waves.
awesome stuff
Ella, let’s go for a roll in the coal.
Good choice Ella of RB. To date the only aussie export commodity I ever considered were the ACDC.
That’s pretty electric! Glowing ears, thanks Leo. Why didn’t I ever think of that before. Watch that coal glow red hot, right Ella?

“Re-soar-sees”
I thought it was pronounced like “re-soar-ses”. Did I miss something or is she just being quant?
Are you people going to be on that boat when it is freezing in the winter? I doubt it.

The mentioning of Waterworld reminded me of one very important thing….Where does the water supply come from?
thats awesome
water supply, im more concerned about the fuel to power the SHIP. You cant call yourselves enviromentalistis when you go around on a gas powered boat with solar pannels. You might as well just use the power from a generator.
omfg, she is so cute!!!
looks cool. kinda wet though
why does it have to be a barge? concept cool… but yet a concept
My god but you are a beautiful woman, Ella!
A good reporter too!
Dunno about those dirty hippies tho…
She moves her shoulders alot… it’s kinda funny ^_^

I’m glad that women can still be in the kitchen here.
Great idea, we need one in Melbourne….
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9NvboKL43Q&feature=PlayList&p=8685191AA4BF6430&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=9

the future is on the hand… Æ
If that’s the future i need a time stopper because I sure as hell don’t want to live like that.
I wanted cyborgs >:(
something out of the movie waterworld … need to wear gloves in the kitchen for hygiene …
Very interesting.
So basically homeless people who sleep under newspapers and live in cardboard boxes …are just really environmentally conscious?
failboat lol
This reminds me of MadMax or Waterworld. Why would anyone *want* to live like that.
Buy a realdoll.
Kitty ! ! ! ! !
Nice project, the cat adds the finishing touch
This video is great. Thank you for giving us an insight into such a unique lifestyle!
I believe she says resource use.
Love it!. PS great atmosphere in your interviews Ella.
That seems cool, but it was funny when the guy was asked about what they do for fun, and he said they lay on the couch.
Hmmm…. that tug boat that pushes the “waterpod” barge is definitely diesel-powered, not solar.
The japanese do them better.
Five Stars.

Aqua Hippies!!!
ellie > ella.
Work those shoulders girl!
haha, yeah
It doesn’t store cows for my steak. Fail.
well if the apocalypse hits, i guess they will be the ones who are prepared
Gotta love Ella’s accent and of couse rocketboom it’s self…Very interesting, Almost every video of theirs I learn something new which is a good thing ;)
That’s pretty cool. It’s too bad solar panels are so expensive. More people would have them if they weren’t.
how come she reminds me of kirsten dunst? great video though. =)
yeah like the boat is totally gonna survive a nuclear war :D
like you will :D
Am I the only one who thought she moved around way too much? >_>
i wanna fuck her skull
Ella 4 Anchor! :D
He lays on a couch with a hot chick - and talks about COMPOSTING? No sexy.
i would plant pot in open sea.
and she is so hot!
get a tan!
going out on a limb here but im guessing the engines don’t run on solar
90% food but only 5months run time if things go apoc how are they going to survive?
Until the chickens get sick and die. The concept itself probably wouldn’t work even with a large vessel. A little virus mutation and your essential livestock die off and oh well.
I like the idea of the waterpod, but unless it’s a complete vegetarian society, it really wouldn’t work.
Want to see our nation invest more in self-contained sustainable systems that use small, finite amounts of resources, renewable energy, and find innovative ways to produce food, building materials, power, etc?
SUPPORT THE SPACE PROGRAM.
I will smoke it
looks like a cool project but not feasible in real life
i want a barge! have a putting range and have a garden and some trees. float to the golf of mexico!
