This is one of my all time favorite RBs. Particularily enjoyed Milt's coverage in Rapid City. Oh, and I love the man in Prague "why he's awes-what? Asshole?" Oh, and awesome because: "Blowing up anyone who talks trash!"
while i agree bush is one of the dummest presidents you ever had, i also think:
1. his operation in iraq could be regarded as a milestone in the political develpment of the middle east by future historians, if it succeeds. so far, it looks to me like it has more chances of succeeding than not.
2. his moon and mars space initiative is the most important and correct decision anyone in america as done recently. within the next few decades, we will see people on mars. the russians, the europeans and the chinese are working on it, and even one or two american aerospace private firms are. if america won't be there, it will fall behind, scientifically, economically, and politically.
Why does it matter? One man does not run this country. The image of the United States should be its People, not its figurehead. Take all that energy you are expending attacking someone's character and put it into helping your neighbors and fellow citizens in need. Actions, not words. Lead by example. History will measure us by what WE do, not what Bush does. He is just one man.
First I thought it was "handsome" or "asshole"... I saw the comment with "awesome", a word that I didn't know. I baught a dictionnary. Then I laught a bit (you could have heard something like "ha ha I am so stupid") and I looked the movie again.
It's good to see this diversity. Refreshing.
I think what the president does matters a great DEAL. And I don't believe RB was attacking him. As you can clearly see, some of the "man-on-street" interviews were of people that thought highly of the president. What the president and this administration do will always reflect the people of the United States. TO deny this is pure idiocy. True, I think it is sad that because of ONE MAN, citizens of the U.S. can be branded negatively, however, in this world, in these times, image, sadly enough, is very important.
This was a really great episode. Noticably lacking of Amanda's smiling face, but still a really cool way to get people to say what they think about Bush. I'd like to see how more of the people in Houston responded.
It is going to be a long and arduous wait until 2008, in the
other hand the country's people will be divided a lot longer than that for what they think a leader of THIS great nation should be.
The mainstream media should buy Rocketboom because they are the perfect echo. Picking people on the coasts to bash Bush and making the people in middle America look stupid. I have lived on both coasts and in the middle and I can definitely say that the people in the middle have it together.
Drew, of course NYC contains many Bush haters especially if you focus around NYU and Columbia. Go down to the Financial District and you will find a different picture. Try a shopping mall in the midwest and there will be many more satisfied with his performance. What does it matter anyway? The truth is that the economy is doing well, energy prices are dropping, security is improving, and many new jobs are being created. The problem with the Republicians is that they are not doing a good job marketing their progress while the mainstream media and liberals continue to create a perception of doom. It's all B.S.
Do you actually do anything with the show anymore, besides spend 2 or three seconds on the air. Not sure I blame you from hidding from the camera with the content you are putting out these days.
The best were the people in Prague. Particularly the man who translated awesome to a**hole with a snicker.
Thanks for loading all the raw. The Asian guy in NYC could barely conceal his contempt for the prez. The question hit people viscerally and really drew out people's feelings.....and it is easy to understand why.
I am betting this episode is picked up by cable and the networks.
Had you asked why is George Bush such a douch bag, you would have likely had even more negatives. You of course knew this, and padded the question the way the GOP would have liked you to. Yet rightly so, people mostly do not want to give a favorable answer. You could not have done it better! Even when the bushist fanatics ask if it is okay for the government to wire tap terrorists without a warrant, rather than ask if it is okay to spy on American citizens, they can only muster 60% favorable.
Great show!
Thanks.
hey DT, how about we take all that energy we're using attacking other countries to help out our fellow neighbor. imagine troops in new orleans helping! HELPING! holy shit! that would have been so lovely, wouldnt it?
This RB excited me. i feel a connection to everyone who expressed their disgust with this adminitstration.
The vox pops are always incredibly rewarding, this one particularly. I can't see how middle Americans were misrepresented as a previous commenter suggests. In fact their opinions seem to be more considered, at times, than some of their more glib coastal counterparts. I have watched and rewatched this episode and I recommend that all 150,000 or however many other Rocketboomers there were at last count do the same. It's a brilliant piece of work
which celebrates America, rather than simply bashing the
commander-in-chief.
RB, you starting to lose me. Remember, half of the country is conservative, half liberal. Doing political type stuff puts off half your audience, no matter which way you go.
"2. his moon and mars space initiative is the most important and correct decision anyone in america as done recently."
With all due respect, tsahi, that is exactly what his empty promises about the moon and Mars wanted people to think. NASA's budget was actually cut not long after he made that speech. Bush is full of promises, but unless you are a huge corporation, or a defense contractor, there is precious little money going to back those promises up.
Amanda and Drew, have you noticed that when the right wingers who post here think they're right they get smug and condescending, and when you prove them wrong they get belligerant? It's no wonder the Archie Bunker stereotype persists.
Great show!!
Heh. Almost funnier than these episodes are the comments of those posing as right-wing nutjobs threatening to leave this, the video blog of their fave mid-west sorority-girl-moved-to-the-big-city.
George Warhead Bush is a narrowminded, ignorant, egocentric idiot, a liar and a cheater, who's getting to much attention. Besides that, he might be ok. :-)
I'm looking forward for the first black or white woman becoming president of the US.
I believe it really doesn't matter which party controls Washington, they are all pretty much corrupted. So long as Ceasar provides "Bread & Circuses" for the masses (eg. stocked cheap supermarkets and plenty of TV channels) then the folks won't rebel. Otherwise, Government is neutral at best and adversarial most of the time to our best interests. This is the nature of the modern Nation State.
The only thing less imaginative than Bush-bashing is man-on-the-street Bush-bashing.
Why not do something productive and figure out how to beat him in 2008? As was proven in 2004, bashing Bush for 4 years actually increased his margin of votes.
This was not a very good Rocketboom. Maybe it would have been funnier if you played it in fast motion set to some Russian music and Amanda jumped around.
He is so awesome because he stands up to the "whacko" liberal left who continue to blame him for anything that happens that they don't like or agree with. Give it up "whackos" he won the election, twice, and believe it or now, he is our President.
Political Discussion all too often degrades into manipulating the facts (or lack thereof) into a story that corresponds with the way a person feels. Thanks RB for not doing this.
For me to consider whether or not Bush is doing a good job, I'd have to see a comprehensive document of some sort listing every single decision he's ever had to make as president, familiarize myself with the full scope of those decisions, and only then could I come to what I believe would be a sound opinion on whether or not he's doing a good job as potus. Obviously, I haven't done this, but more importantly I think people who -are- passing judgment on the president, one way or the other, haven't done it either. In fact I'd say most of the American public is incredibly ignorant when it comes to the subject of reality outside of the scope of what directly affects their own lives.
I am disappointed again. Do you think that all your viewers are Bush haters? Even if your viewers are not the perfect cross section of the political population, there have to be at least 30% of them that are not enjoying your political rants. I love your vlog, but the Bush bashing, political haranguing is really tedious.
I like the "man on the street" questions, and the use of RB correspondents made it extra good, so we got a sense of people's reactions around the entire WORLD.
It reminds me of Steven Colbert's question:
Is President Bush a great president or the GREATEST President?
Not much of a choice, eh?
One meaning of "awesome" is "inspiring." To his constituency, Mr. Bush is, indeed, inspiring, almost with a religious fervor. To his opposition, it is difficult to apply the word "awesome." However, I suggest that, even to his detractors, Mr. Bush has an inspiring quality, which is his focused and relentless promotion of his stated agenda. You have to respect the tenacity if nothing else.
Who selected the word "awesome" anyway?
Bye bye Rocketboom...what a shame that you are ruining a great franchise with efforts to change something that you are powerless to influence.Perhaps it's a sense of impotence that causes the bitter whining that has pervaded the past few episodes.Anyhow I used to enjoy you but now I'm gone .Even Amanda's perky good looks can't make up for being so far off point.
This was brilliant! Keep up the great work and do a few more of these!
By my count the tally was 13 pro and 19 con responses to the question. That tracks almost exactly his approval/disapproval rating made by AP last week.
You obviously did a nice job of capturing the gestalt of the moment!
Tedious episode. Why are you so bitter Rocketboom? Kerry lost, disappeared again, and world is better off. Gore is still ranting nonsense and the press is still activing as if he has some intelligence. Your got your half a loaf.
You know, I went to the Galleria near mid town Houston. I was going to goto a red-neck bar, or some VFW, but this mall had a nice selection of people from various political and social backgrounds. I will tell you this much....
I got turned down by tons of people. Many said they were in a hurry, and many didnt even try. I tried to get the cowboys and Texas country men to answer the question, but had to settle for just 2.
I am amazed at how many Bush supporters are bashing you for this episode...your question was a POSITIVE question!
You asked why is he so awesome.
Just think how mad they would be if you had asked "Why is Bush such a jackass?".
Plus, MANY of the replies were FAVORABLE! It's obvious to me that the real problem some people have is actually hearing responses that are negative. Above "Joey" says that 13 responses are positive and 19 are negative...that doesn't seem like "bashing".
The Bush supporters obviously just think that any questioning of the President, his administration and their abilities equals "bashing" "bitterness" and "ranting".
I also want to remind everyone that Rocketboom is NOT the news - it is an internet video show - and they can do whatever the hell they want!
And I personally think that's what makes the internet and America great!
I have always thought RB was unique and clever. But, honestly, what is clever or unique about going around and asking people what is basically, a loaded question either way? Too bad you can't ask that question about the house and senate, where most of the power lies. But, what would be the fun in that? That wouldn't be nearly as funny, would it?
Do you really think people want to watch a zany, less formal version of the big media they can already watch on TV? Stick to the tech/quirky stuff and stay out of the libral/politics thing.
Good job reporting that there are "many" people who don't like Bush, though. I mean, I never could have heard that slant from one of the big news outlets. Gimme a break.
The difference between RB and mainstream news is I went onto Fox News' blog to leave feedback, oh wait they don't have one. RB remains open and acessible. Awesome.
So you really want to impeach him for doing the most important part of his job, protecting the country from foreign attack? Since Clinton tarnished the oval office most people have forgotten what the role of the President is. The anti-Bush people just seem to parrot what they get from MTV and Michael Moore. No facts, just name-calling. And who cares what Prague thinks? If the communists/socialists of the world hate Bush that proves he's doing a GREAT job.
Viewership must be slipping. Bush-bashing draws plenty of comments, but not very entertaining. It sad watching people stuggle to articulate their views of the president. Time to move on.
I have to object to the content of today's segment. The question being asked the people on the street was a leading, pro-Bush question. And I object to all the pro-Bush content. Plus the editing to make it even more weighted towards the pro-Bush viewpoint is just outrageous.

Good job guys.

What?
Very interesting responses, I'm off to look at the raw stuff.

Let's stick to the fun stuff RB does best.

Um, entertaining episode all the same.
God bless America!
I live in Sweden and it's nice to see a diffrent picture of USA. It's nice to see that there are so many sane people that see trough his lies. By the way check out this documentaryhttp://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5137581991288263801&q=loose+change
