this is epicly random but i feel it will interest you, your map is wrong in terms of scale, the north, as with all western maps, is made much larger so that countries like australia and the sudan actually appear smaller than somewhere like greenland wich is not the case at all, perchance you should consioder investing in an upside down map that is too scale, i forget its name but it would certainly help to maintain your appeareance as a show of intelegence and omniscient

Anyway, It’s more of the moon’s gravitational pull rather than the surface that affects the tides.
