Well i was born in iran left when i was small. The thing is if Iranians really fealt that oppressed they would have over thrown government already. The iran iraq war was a total loss for iraq and its backers (western powers). They hoped that iran would be over taken easily but what the war did was unite the people of the country.

My friend Iran is still farsi speaking country. Not all of the old ways are still alive but we still have our identity. Iran was not just invaded by arabs in the past it was invaded by Alexander too which western people see as a great hero. Also Mongols did alot harm to Iran but they eventually became iranian themselves.

I think everywhere there is an opportunity to realize that the people themselves want the best and then there are the powers that be. When all along the Power that BE’s Is Me

Self Assertiveness brings on the Wrath of those in Power. There is enough for everyone. But we have to be divided… we could be different but we dont have to be divided.
We all feel and care for our families.
And we all read from HOLY scriptures about actually loving our fellow man. But For those in Power… well its only about them. and theirs.

The other nations did less harm to what the arabs did. The Arabs destroyed the culture which existed in Iran. They killed 2/3 of our innocent people, burned our temples and libraries to the ground, and sadly forced us to submit to a religion that they had corrupted, Islam. We use to be Zoroastrians. The one of the few religions at that time which symbolized peace, good deeds, and tolerated all the religions. Cyrus the great of persia was Zoroastrian and he was the one who begun Human rights.

very nice video. i’ve always maintained that the “axis of evil” are the washington - tel aviv - beijing regimes, the 3 most reviled states who show nothing but contempt for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights while flouting international rule of law and subverting the possibilities inherent in the UN.

if you think the i-net can change the world, think again. our “leaders” are on to us.

please google “mirror damn right total traceback” and see what washington and beijing are up to.

Thank you President Obama for not doing or saying anything to support the Iranian Nation of Bloggers during the recent stolen election. Your silence was and still is deafening. As you refuse to meddle and make nice-nice to the mullahs, thousands of Iranian students are being arrested, tortured and brutilized, their freedoms stripped to the bone. Many have died. Many!!!! They are abducted in the middle of the night by the thugs of this tyrannic regime. Yes you really are the president of No Hope and No Change.

Though from day one I sided with enthusiasm with the struggle for freedom of the brave young Iranians (a beautiful youth), I prefer to keep a distance with that kind of admirers they have in the West that one year ago wanted to crumble Iran with a military attack at the bidding of Israel, and now are happy that Mousavi’s reformist party didn’t win in fair elections because in that case they wouldn’t have any excuse left to keep bullying a sovereign country in a crucial region of the world.

The same people who don’t give a damn that a military coup not too far away from the US border has toppled down a few days ago the democratic government of president Manuel Zelaya in Honduras. Hey,this is a buddy of Hugo Chavez, the principles of democracy don’t apply here, this is about oil. Not to mention that if the US goverment called things by their own name - military coup - by the US laws the Soto Cano military base, the largest in the region, should be closed.

Weird how democratic concerns go along geographical coordinates.

To this day I have read a lot of bullshit on the use of Twitter and Facebook by Iranian protesters. This article, however, seems worth reading:

      Networking Revolt in Iran

The use of social media came to its own in the massive citizens’ revolt in Iran after the allegedly corrupt presidential election. The new technologies present new abilities for social change around the world …

You have it all wrong Leonardo, Iran wants to wipe Israel off the face of the Earth. The mullahs, The Supreme Leader and the 4 foot puppet who carries out their wishes have all stated so over a dozen times. So Israel will do her own bidding and take out Iran’s nuclear reactor’s with or without anyones help. How would you like your country to be faced with annihilation? Let’s say Russia proclaimed, “Italy is vermin and scum and a blight on mankind, we shall wipe it off the face of the Earth.” How does that sit with you Leo? Sound good? I’ll give Putin a call, maybe he has a few spare nukes he wants to test out.

        Hy Mickey Mouse.

Beats me why on earth you would bother to buzz Putin if you are looking for nukes. Just turn to Netanhiau. Israel is credited as having not less than 200 nuclear warheads, totally out of the Non Proliferation Treaty. Moreover, by her own weird notion of “deterrence”, Israel has 5 strategic Dolphin submarines (German made) that allow her to incinerate Greenland or Patagonia by nuking them, as soon as they have the itch.

On the contrary, the AIEA UN agency, which monitors the compliance with the NPT, says that there’s no evidence that Iran is trying to weaponize its nuclear facilities. AIEA says nothing about Israel because its inspectors aren’t even allowed to enter the country. But Iran is presently being sanctioned while Israel isn’t.

As to the gentle prospect to test atom bombs on some portions of my country, God knows if now and then I did’n have the same thought myself, but among its many defects my country isn’t an apartheid society. Israel is. Ask somebody who knows better, like Nobel Prize laureate archbishop Desmond Tutu: a revered personality when he speaks about South Africa, and a dangerous lunatic to blank out of the maintream media when it comes to Israel.

Well, when you will be surrounded by 22 nations that want to wipe you out and have had a history of people wanting to annihilate you, are you going to depend on this joke called the UN. El Bardei, for months said they weren’t weaponizing nuclear material, yet has changed his tune.

But whenever you are going to call me in again see it isn’t about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the Middle East. Regrettably, unlike most, I am not obsessed with the subject, and I am always confused at the spectacle of people like you who are ready to “puke” on a disagreement. It is insane, it is idiotic, and I’m not going to be sucked up into it. Life is short, and I don’t want mine flooded with vomit.

But, so, this video wasn’t made by Iranians, but rather by Canadians in film school … a couple of ‘em with East Asian names?

Who’s doing the voice over? Is it real or is it an actor speaking Canadian English with faux Farci/Iranian accent?

    Dramatic narrative or micro-documentary?

Ugh, post-modernism, so confusing, what could possibly follow?

True, but rarely does freedom exist without democracy. And when it does exist in the absence of democracy, it exists at the will of the government not of the people.

This is a very interesting piece. Mona Eltahawy in World Policy Journal wrote a piece called The Middle East’s Generation Facebook, which was much like this in it addresses blogging as a new tool for peoples all over the world to voice their opinions. The article was written in response to the question “What will the Middle East look like in 2033?” Within the article she states: “Facebook activists were becoming both the oxygen and blood of Egypt’s civil society.”

Democracy has to have perimeters. As many have stated before “democracy is like two wolves and a lamb deliberating on what to eat for dinner”. If the will of the people was always the action of government there would be little freedom because when people get scared they always cast their freedoms away expecting safety in return. Something like the bill of rights that clearly lays out rights people maintain despite what a majority might want are the reason “democracy” can work.

Of course. My statement in no way suggested that a mob rule democracy is what is needed to protect your freedoms. There is more that one type of democracy.

Correct, K2T. That’s why the US is *NOT* a Democracy in the Athenian sense. We are a REPUBLIC. Our Founding Fathers, along with their several notions about things like Seperation of Church and State where the state remains Secular, also espoused the notion of preventing a “Tyranny of the Majority” by establishing this nation as a Representative Government (aka a Republic) where the only democratic policy is in voting for your representative.
