“White people only make things that last for a year”
SO TRUE
Depends on what you’re buying. Buy a crappy knapsack, you’ll need a new one in a month. I bought a good one (and yes, a lot more expensive) and I’ve been using it for 4 years and it’s still OK.
Almost all the tech I bought in my life have lasted more than an year. Same goes for furniture. Same goes for pretty much everything in my hope except batteries, clothes and some everyday stuff (for example a lighter).
I think most of the stuff the white people are producing is lasting for a lot more than an year.
these people seem really nice, i would never have thought that i would enjoy a rocketboom video that doesnt have ellie in it.
very eye opening
Wow, very cool…I wish people would do this everywhere! Keep up the good work guys!
Agreed. And that include cars. Have you noticed that cars don’t last as long as the old ones?
In the sense that, you CAN see old Volkswagen in the streets, and those are older than 10 years. Back in the days, German and American cars were made to last a lifetime.
What is the most long lasting car producing company today? Japanese companies?
That’s what I like about Rocketboom. Usually, I’m against their “Know your meme” section because it’s profiting from something that belongs to the internet, pretty much what happened with lolcats and failblog. But I like this micro documentaries.
Yeah, that’s right, they’re raking in the big bucks, making free online videos. That money belongs to Anon so they can buy more V masks!!
Where does all this garbage come from in the first place?
it’s refreshening seeing black people doing something productive.
is this so bad? in my country is kinda… same :|
what country?
are you kidding?
Unfortunately “rich” countries overlook these things. This mini-documentary was very, very interesting! Thanks Rocketboom!
Welcome to industrial consummation. :S
Did anyone catch what the garbage collector’s reason behind the strike was? Why do they care if the recyclers pick things up too?
“One Mans Trash Is Another Mans Treasure”
This reminds me of certain american flea markets.
Go AFrica!! :D
Yea, but that happens all the time, all over. =\ You act like it’s a rare thing.
Garbage collectors should begin making their own recycling business. Come on, it’s almost costless!
If the collectors make $80.00 per month, how much are the recyclers making?
Beautiful, just beautiful.
And how fascinating to read the english translation
of the french translation of one of the 20 languages
spoken in Senegal and be crossed by the thought:
“God knows what they were really talking about”.
thankyou for conducting and posting rocketboom n_n
holy crap 5 kids??? no wonder Africa is so poor. A nation with so few resources is not meant to support a large population. More people born = less resources for everyone.
Can you guys cover the stuff going on in Iran???
Wow, i feel like an asshole for spending the money I do.
Africa has countries that are rich in resources. HEll China is exploiting that shit right now. The reason for Africa’s conditions in many countries has more to do with the fact of political instability in the area. Japan has almost no resources of its own and yet it is a developed nation. There is a reason why.
Look at Zimbabwe. IT was a rich country and then mugabee came in and kicked out the farmers and gave it to people who couldn’t use the land, and now look at it. its fucked up.
The narrator and some of the Africans speak French,it’s not only France that speaks French, see,ya learn somethin’ new everyday!!!=P
Aren’t those Hatians that speak French? Well, you’re also right with the Africans speak French thing. =D
Totally! Portland, Oregan has a program where refitted trash trucks collect recycling on the same routes, sometimes at the same time. Sooooo easy.
The guy at 3:40 has a good point…
This isn’t particularly new, America once had a nice secondhand market going until the last decade or so, when trade with China really took off. Still good to see someone doing it in the world
You can do this at home, reinventing stuff you already have, it just needs a little creativity
Why the constant portrayal of the lower class?
Rocketboom should also give National Geographic-style reports on a day in the life of a middle class and upper class Senegalese person or family.
Balance things.
Fuck balance. Rich white boy. Afraid of seeing the real world. Go take a valium.
Mickey Moose, there are better, more emotional ways to elicit pity to yourself and your leaders. Instead of your hands, practice your martial arts using that technique of hitting your forehead on the cinder blocks to break them in half. That government employee health care plan you have will pay for any injuries while you’re practicing, so no problem.
OH SO Tough. Now I know why you call yourself “soldier”. Go watch the Disney Channel you wimp, then you’ll see all the nice shiny middle class houses you want. And don’t choke on that blueberry apple pie. Your HMO may not be so glad to see you Soldier.
Recycling is honorable… These guys can come teach us a thing or two here in the U.S.
for a change I found a good video..thanks for posting.
mickey moose, stop jerking off alone while watching poor people carry on with life. Perhaps find someone weaker than you to get drunk with. With their shoulder to cry on as you cackle, drunk, about the poor people in the world, find a way to relieve yourself with this poor drinking buddy and pal. Geez. You may fall in love this way, … and, hey! make you feel better with someone to finally have sex with?
Rocketboom’s Senegalese reporter doesn’t know any middle or upper class who have a say in the workings of local government? No schools or tourist attractions to report on in Senegal? Apparently enough police types for the common Senegalese to worry about, though. Bad apple police-types similar to our oafish-brained mickey moose here in the New York.
Why don’t you do the standup circuit, I’m sure they’d love your jerkoff jokes, especially cuming from someone who wrote the book, right Soldier? And don’t forget to wear your mother’s army boots and her bra as well. Now I get the whole AMY SOLDIER thing.
Was that a spitball at 1:48?
i think so
Great report - lots of issues brought up, particularly the wealth divide between trash collectors and those who recycle and the high turnover of ‘white made’ equipment.
Hope to see more - nice one RB!
Just out of curiosity, I overheard that right now the Iranians
are twittering like hell. Anybody knows what the fuss is about?
mickey Mutt, you are, obviously, a couple sandwiches short of a picnic. Try to understand the bogus nature of your racism with this rationale.
The German countryside can be Dresden-like pulverized before defeat at war, and with a little Marsh-like help from the rich white boys, four, five decades later the German people have transformed their country to become a top five leading economic power. Ditto’s with a nation that had two nuclear blasts occur over their land, and after defeat and humiliation by war the Japanese people have transformed their nation to become another one of the five leading economic powers of the day. In the year 2009, the quality of life for the average German and Japanese citizen is better than the daily life of a citizen in the majority of other nations.
Acknowledge that the cultural and personal characteristics of those two nations are “about something” that allows them to pick themselves up and to bring their people to live with a quality of life that somehow seems to elude the African nations. No African nation and leader has ever arisen over the last three, four centuries. Why? With all the help given to the African nations, their leaders live in wealth but the majority of the nation’s people remain in squalid living conditions. Don’t recognize and acknowledge why Africans have never built a nation worth immigrating to, and it’s because people with attitudes such as yours that keep constructive acts from happening which will change that part of the world for the better.
mickeyMooseMutt, perhaps were if all Africans to embrace Islam their lives would for once improve? Stew on that one.
mullah akbar!
ahahahaha
that’s amazing :D
i love spitballs!
(at 3:54) having 5 kids in there is nice proof of why the most senegalese people are uneducated !!!!
They Don’t really have a choice: Two of the many reasons for large families applies here : #1 High Fatality Rate for kids and lack of medical facilities #2 Lack of proper education facilites so more kids mean more hands to work menial jobs and aid in the family income from an early age #3 that guy isn’t educated either so he only knows one way of life: Lower class jobs. A continous cycle of life in third world countries!
Mickey Mumps, Jesus is the dude of Dudes. Believe it.
By the way his real name was Yeshua, that’s Aramaic, which was his native tongue, and the language spoken at the time, if you know anything of the man you speak of. Dude.
Even Daffy Duck knows that!
I don’t know how to pronounce the syllables for Yeshua in Aramic, and were I able to know one wouldn’t understand whom I spoke of, unless from the context of the sentence they inferred whom I was implying.
Did you know Jesus probably never tasted a tomato in his lifetime? Stew on that one before drifting off to sleep for a couple nights.
Who was the historical Jesus of Nazareth? What did he actually say and do, as contrasted with what early Christians (e.g., Paul and the Gospel writers) believed that he said and did?
What did the man Jesus actually think of himself and of his mission, as contrasted with the messianic and even divine claims that the New Testament makes about him?
In short, what are the differences—and continuities—between the Jesus who lived and died in history and the Christ who lives on in believers’ faith?
Over the last four decades historical scholarship on Jesus and his times—whether conducted by Jews, Christians, or non-believers—has arrived at a strong consensus about what this undeniably historical figure (born ca. 4 BCE, died ca. 30 CE) said and did, and how he presented himself and his message to his Jewish audience. Often that historical evidence about Jesus does not easily dovetail with the traditional doctrines of Christianity. How then might one adjudicate those conflicting claims?
This is a course about history, not about faith or theology. It will examine the best available literary and historical evidence about Jesus and his times and will discuss methodologies for interpreting that evidence, in order to help participants make their own judgments and draw their own conclusions.
Ok, I know it’s a cruel world. Everything you know about Yeshua is probably wrong, so it’s time you were enlightened with the historical facts. This is a once-in-a-lifetime offer, so do yourself a favor and get to know who the DUDE really was.
You caught me in one of my “forgiving” moods. That too, will probably never happen again. Soldier.

Well I’ve recycled this video for days now…. Do you have anything new over there at Rocketboom?
Not to worry if you don’t, I’m off to waste my day on YouTube
Interesting. Stay tuned . . .
Is Rocketboom being a bit too picky on the Talent Search?
Come on, we all know that at the end of the day it will be kind of a lottery. Cast lots for the two, it’s time.
Drew, if you are doing auditions, why not post them and we can help you decide on a host(ess).
Look @ http://talent.rocketboom.com/
Yeah, check out Kurt Hanson. A ha! ha!
Looks like a clown …, an evil clown. Hope he makes everyone stand up and take notice.
You’re welcome and you’re right! It’s a good eye-opener to an issue that people tend to overlook - glad to hear that the video piqued your interest
thsnkd sooo muvh for this video, it was a real eye opener to the recycling side of things and how shops these days are starting to lose quality and rip us off, making their product as cheap as possible.
