    1) I think the Lamarckian findings are of the type “Take the spotlight and run”.

    2) Joanne’s “what” managed to jar even on my nerves, and I wasn’t in the whereabouts of the cone!

    3) Seriously, RocketBoom, you ought to balance your obvious partisanship to cats with a pro-dog positive action.

    Enjoyable video.

Didn’t you talk about the rock-hording monkey already?

Where is Ellie? I saw her briefly in the know your meme (with Boxxy or whatever the hell she called herself) and was hoping she would be more involved. But ALAS, nothing…. again.

what [woh' et] –pronoun 1. What?

    OK, somebody mentioned “balanced journalism?”

“Balanced journalism” was a political falsehood created when the right was attacking NPR for being, as they called it, “Radio Managua.” NPR eventually conceded in their fist attempt to save themselves from a republican administration.

“Balanced reporting” became the false ideal of the day.

It is really absurd to ask someone to represent the opposing point of view. If you think about it, were they to do that well, it would not be their point of view in the first place. The most objective reporter still has a point view. To expect otherwise is a false ideal.

One gets balanced reporting by reading the best stories from all points of view.

That said I wouldn’t mind a dog or to myself.

Whatever. It’s high time to have one dog or two in, and you know it. The way you handle the sources is what fair reporting is all about. Give dogs a chance.

      1. While covering all sides of a story is necessary for the ideal of objective journalism, it is just that: idealistic.

The best news agencies in the world still have a tendency to color a story one way or another, even if that only means the questions asked are influenced by the viewpoint of the commentator or their writers.

To be frank, Rocketboom has never made any claims about being objective in the past, quite the contrary. And no one at Rocketboom (save for some the field correspondents) see themselves as journalists, but rather, curators of internet culture and news. In that way, it’s similar to op-ed correspondents like Rachel Maddow, Kieth Olberman, and in some sense even Bill O’Reilly. The main difference there is that Fox News calls themselves News, whereas Rocketboom is really more like The Daily Show. Yes, there are biases, and they are openly admitted. But the facts are checked, sources cited, and the context with which everything is stated is thoroughly considered prior to shooting.

Of course the comment here above (Chris Menning’s) is to be taken as a general statement, right?, not as a specific rebutting of my pro-dog lobbying, correct? just following suit along the earlier joke, not so?

I’d sense somewhat a disproportion, otherwise.

News flash: When ya’ C a ’study’ that promotes anti-white policy (such as nurture-over-nature ‘Lamarkian’ nonsense), U can B certain it’s just more nonsense 2 promote anti-white propaganda. I worked once 4 a himey in college pulling the same crap - estrogen studies (pretending estrogen makes U smarter, meanwhile men run the world ‘cuz they’re smarter - duh!) - U know, always going 4 that ‘inversion’ 2 weaken the host nation (so they can try & take over & feed off us easier). It’s not ’science’

All I got is a dead cat. She was 21 lbs and 23 years old and lived in an “art house” theater (converted from a funeral home some decades ago) that is being kept alive by a foundation since the owner died in 2007.

    Sweet ep.

    “Wot?!” - instant classic.

So I see most of the tubers aren’t up yet. Or maybe this was above their itty bitty heads.

Nice stuff above about objectivity in journalism, which is total bullshit. No one can be objective. Not even a mirror is objective. There is always stuff you are not looking at.

The best journalists, dare I say real journalists, strive to be fair. But they are as hard on their friends as they are on their enemies, at least sometimes.

I remember an old man who sat on a board I covered, who summoned me to his hospital bed one afternoon because, he said, he had a huge story for me. He was running for re-election at the time. When I got to his bed, it was clear he was loopy from lack of oxygen. He could barely speak. He had muttered some half-baked idea about a story to his wife who called me to humor him, and in hopes of snapping him put of his stupor maybe.

He literally could not put two words together and I made the first excuse I could and left.

I never wrote about what happened. He called me the next day and apologized and admitted he had been incoherent, and said he was much better now. Indeed, he was his old self, a capable administrator who had the pertinent facts down.

The guy was running against him was an utter slimewad, a sharp operator who thought the board job would make him rich. He claimed to be employed doing credit repair, but had no client list to speak of. I knew the slimewad would lose the election.

Unless, perhaps, I wrote a story saying the old man was incoherent. Was it relevant? I decided it was not. Had I decided so, I would have brought it to my editors in a heartbeat. As it was, I never mentioned it. The old man served his full term OK, though they had to call him from his bed onenight to come break a tie vote.

I suppose I would have been in trouble if another reporter had outed me, or scooped me. But in truth there were no other reporters who gave a damn. (That, by the way, is the going trend. See Seattle PI Faces of Death at nytimes.com. Those days will soon be over, I fear.)

Was I objective? Hell no. But I think I was fair. Yes?

i celebrated pi day. All my guests had to memorize pi to the 25th digit in order to get some, guess what, pie. We also had a pie contest. Not to judge the best pie, but to find out which pi rendered the most accurate pi value by dividing its circumference by its radius squared. I’m really not a nerd, really.

N1kdanbro: all the rest are the moons of pluto? kids are going to get childhood trauma trying to draw the orbit of, say earth, going around pluto. that’s gonna be some crazy squiggly lines.

we give things names so we don’t get a huge headache trying to figure them out. if we call pluto a planet, we’ll kind of have to explain what it’s doing so close to the orbit of the kuiper belt. by saying it’s a member of kuiper we might save quite a bit of headache for future generations.
