6 Comments on Iraqi Journalists in Danger Despite Drop in Censorship

  1. Newton

Wow. I feel for the people of Iraq more than ever.

“Every student that walks down the street. Every doctor going to the hospital…. they are all miracles”.

“Freedom of the Press is different than freedom of the jounalist”

They don’t censor the papers because no one can read them anyway…

    sigh….

Nasty Nasty world we’ve created for them.

    Bless the people of Iraq.

    Thanks again RB.

    Wow.

My experience as a journalist in this country is, I think, pretty typical. I’ve been harassed by government gasbags who did not like my poking holes in their nonsense. I’ve had articles rewriten under my name by my bosses to say the exact opposite of what I knew to be the truth, to keep a key advertiser happy. I’ve been arrested half a dozen times while covering this demonstration or riot or that, and not always in that polite way that civilly disobedient Quakers get corralled and sent to a freshly scrubbed jail. I’ve been teargassed, sometimes by accident but not always. I’ve been threatened by cops in this country, and down in Mexico where police do things to people I hope most of you cannot imagine. And I’ve had a few angry relatives and downright nutjobs try to hurt me one-on-one. Thankfully I have never gotten worse out of it than a black eye.

I tell you all this to say: I have no idea how these people find the courage to get up and go to work every day. “We all live by miracles.” I’ll say. Best of luck in the years to come.

(I must confess, however, that I speed-watched this ep at about 300 percent normal speed, and don’t think I missed much.)

Care to elaborate on the motivational power of the “fuckin’” and “bullshit” words?

Watch out, it’s been uploaded two days ago:
