I can’t change the fact that my paintings don’t sell. But the time will come when people will recognize that they are worth more than the value of the paints used in the picture. ~Vincent van Gogh

    1. Isn’t it amazing how in 2 generations or so, the public as well as those in the mass media and enetrtainment, whether journalists, talking heads, actors, or politicians, have for the most part become exceedingly inarticulate and plain dumb. Yes dumb. Surrounded by a mass of hi-tech gadgets we have LOLed ourselves into sleep. Everyone, except for Joanne of course. Her intellect and wit never ceases to amaze. Good night.

Here is some more NYC related art news:

David Byrne (Talking Heads) & his bike racks Very nice David, but how many bikes can we actually lock to them before people lock up each others bikes also?!

Sexy trash bags Now we’re talking!

Art is unquestionably one of the purest and highest elements in human happiness. It trains the mind through the eye, and the eye through the mind. As the sun colors flowers, so does art color life. ~John Lubbock

They forgot to mention: Only place in America you can buy a knish from a street cart that’s worth eating.

    Love the cameo.

A few years before this shining documentary was made, my grandfather was crossing a street in lower Manhattan, hauling a suitcase full of belts he had made, when he was struck by a taxi and knocked to the ground. He did what people of his socioeconomic status did back then: He picked up what he could salvage and rode the subway back to his apartment in Inwood Hill, bleeding. He spent a few days in bed but the family needed the money from those belt sales and, stiff and half-scabbed over, he went back to hauling his suitcase around from store to store. He, my grandmother and one of their sons ended up dying in a TB epidemic that swept the ghetto not long after. I am always struck how those baritone-narrated videos of the period somehow missed that part of daily life.

I remember seeing that video when my cheap ass was looking for public domain images of New York. I don’t remember Joanne’s granny being in the original though…

New York is also home to one of the most annoying, ugly-sounding accents in America. Indeed, in the world.
