I wonder how many starving people could have been fed with the money he’s spent on his project. In these harrowing economic times he’s twiddling with videos. Doesn’t he know that Bush is the devil and the world is about to burst into flame because of CO2? How much dirty coal was burned to run all those cameras? This is a sign of an over-rich decadent society feeding on the ills of the world. Cheney likes art. Art is evil. (Sorry, had a liberal moment there. Please disregard all of the above.)

It’s basically a box with some video cameras. The guy in this clip come across like a double-glazing salesman - annoying.

Oh 4 fuk’s sake! This himey doesn’t know when 2 shut up! Here I will summarize his ‘product’ (no need 2 finish watching this diatribe): “I built this room with a bunch of cameras, & it randomly combines clips of those who enter it.”

DONE! What a jackass - pretending it’s something so complicated & ‘advanced’ - give me a break.

If U wanna’ do this ‘installation’ ya’self, just get a SINGLE PC with 3 or so multi-input surveillance cards in it, & some multi-head output cards, & auto-fade/rotate

BTW, it really does crack me up how much a ‘protest brand’ Mac is :)) “Woo lookie’ me I got 30 Mac boxes laying everyplace” … Seriously just takes 1 PC 2 do all this - ppl have no idea. Hotels & casinos do it all the time. N E 1 interested how 2 set it up, lemme’ know - E-Mail me. It’s real simple.

Not real sure how I would react. The street corner cam would get things more real I believe.

Objective observation and interpretation… Would you say the inescapable subjectivity in this art piece is in the algorithms? I love it.

Do you have any clue as to what you are talking about? Seriously, it takes more than 1 or 2 PCs to do that. Much more.

  25. Algorithm? Hey what happened to the old photographer’s adage of “f8 and you’re there!”?

This is really new-media cool. Instead of hanging an 11 X 14 manufactured by Kodak on one’s wall, now it will require a mounted 25″ Sony to display one’s portrait.

It seems that the design of the algorithm(s) is at the true artistic heart of these new photo sessions (sittings). The sitter(s) is(are) isolated rather than being subjected to the traditional interaction with a shutter-release-yielding photographer. That fact alone (I just used the word ‘alone’ here, folks) makes it truly new-media.

Will Mr. Lincoln Schatz begin to offer franchise opportunities to individuals around the country? I’m in if he does; I like this a lot.

Whats the deal with the annoying ‘music’ being at least as loud as the voices. Makes it hard to understand.

I agree. This installation isn’t so complicated and the multitude of expensive hardware is unnecessary. The artist and the work are overinflated. Seeing Joanne without the gumption to challenge this guy makes me sad as well. Perhaps she was just doing some “objective” reporting?

Well of course this is not a ‘hit piece’. There’s no point bringing up the clown’s Mac fetish or challenging his mumbo jumbo in the interview. It’s fun 2 make fun of his wastefulness after the fact nonetheless ;)
