The *future tense* you’re using is a misnomer.

I won’t be voting for the simple reason that I would not voluntarily form neither an economic nor social relationship with any of the candidates, nor would I willingly obscure the fact that such inevitable relationships are based on force (not free association). I also don’t consider the “coercive monopoly” business model the state embodies to be even remotely ethical. I would not voluntarily patronize a business that uses force/coercion to secure customers and prevent competition.

Freedom of online speech? I wonder how many more years it will last, many ‘democratic’ governments are already trying to tear it down.

    Nice segment.

I think the other side of the famous U.S. self invention is identity crisis.

We are socialists (an “ism”) by virtue of the debate for 232 years over what to do about the under privileged and the poor. Arguing a point validates it. The argument began with the drafting of The Constitution. The primary author, James Madison, wrote, throughout the remainder of his life, that he had been mistaken in the assumption that the wealthy would provide for the underprivileged.

We are a Democracy by virtue of the fact that we always fail vote a permanent, institutional resolution to the issue. i.e. There are not enough voting poor.

We are a plutocracy by virtue of the original impetus of The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution. The learned authors who had the resources to devote to this cause, were of the class with the most to loose from tyranny and the most to gain from independence. The lands, slaves and women would remain theirs. The profits and wealth generated by the working class would be all the more concentrated among them. On the whole, they were the first and only politicians of this country.

The value of this society exits in the “in betweens” and the basic tolerances. In between the political swings, in between the classes, in between the elite overview and the working class good sense lies some varying measure of justice and opportunity for the entrepreneurial.

Few in this society tolerate the lack of toilets, licenses to drive, access to media, old cloths. However, lack of food, health care and housing are tolerated.

If I were on a street corner, my sign would read, “Need a radio and CLOTHING.”

You see this is why I Luv this channel. You covered something interesting in a [mostly] balanced way and you gave a good message.

BUT and I hope you don’t hate me for disagreeing:
I disagree with listing Anarchism alongside despotism? Your homework, should you choose to accept it: Cover Anarchy. The system upon which the INTERNET runs.
Anarchy=no archons. It is much like how you described a “no ocracy” in that you have basic rules of survival that everybody agrees to but that’s it. kkthx

Cool isn’t cool anymore. In fact cool has never been cool.

BUT I completely disagree with his attitude as well. HOWEVER in this one case at least for now… I’m going to say that it’s lose lose either way.

The conservatism McCain’s party so deeply espoused has been not only proven useless (see financial crisis) but become what it was against (see financial BAILOUT). They’ve nationalized our debt, their working on the Big Three and the funny thing is… we’ll see none of the benefits.

In the US we have Plutocracy by default. When people vote against someone instead of voting for someone we end up with an elite clique running everything.

Break the plutocracy, vote third party.

    Vote Nader/Gonzalez!

Good point, I disagree with nader on many issues but at least if he were elected it would scare the shit out of every incumbent. Bob Barr ftw.

i always vote. i know my vote wont change anything really but i take pleasure in knowing that i have let the people in charge know i don’t like them. also, as a woman, voting is still a new privilige to my gender, less than 100 years.
one day i will be the only person still voting and i will vote for me!

We live in a democracy? That would mean that the people of the country choose who holds office. But the political parties have imposed themselves on the body politic and decide what options we have to choose from. We are left with two competing factions. And, if NPV and winner-take-all are put into effect, local districts will be denied a share in the decision and a “corrupt bargain” will decide who is elected to office. One wonders about the integrity of the political and legal communities.

  28. After the last two presidential elections were hijacked by the current administration and its cronies, I set out to design a system which would insure that there would be a cohesive standardization of the balloting process. Although I may have succeeded in designing a suitable system for orchestrating the election process, I have found that there is great resistance against implementing it. This serves to reinforce the built-in flaws and trappings of the existing (dare I call it a system) voting process. Until the entire voting system is handled by the citizenry there will never be accurate and true elections. Therefore, we are presently not living in a democracy as much as we are living ing a Capitalocracyism.

You forgot the very worst ‘ocracy; Theocracy aka religious society. Imagine a world where the president was god’s best pal, where even thinking against the state was a punishable sin.
Religious societies are the most conservative and brutal. It was for this reason that Hitler promoted christianity so much, making it compulsory in schools and commanding women to go to church with their children, why he entrenched religion into the army also
Dictators like to be seen as God.. or as his best pal.

There is no clear definition of democracy. It means rule by the people. But modern democracy is more like oligarcy (~Rule by experts). Atleast where I am (Sweden).
