  • Probewitch says:

The most important and necessary reform to the elective process in the USA is that all positions be limited to a single four year term.

  • Pyr0clasam says:

    Obama just won ! :D<33

  • Reskilober says:

Nothing about the actual history of why Tuesday, like how it was considered the best day to do so back in 1845?

  • Kay says:

Why is the video no longer available?

  • wantedlonewolf says:

idk why they vote on tuesdays... i dont vote cos its all bollox anyway..

why couldnt they just 2:36 of joanne.... god i love this woman :P

  • scoobystu74 says:

Australia has compulsory voting. You get fined if you don't. The election results represent everyone, weather they like it or not. You can even do a postal vote. With aproximatly a 100% turnout, we don't have ques anywhere near as long as that. Fuck voting if you have to wait in a que that long... you'd have to be hardcore!

  • mydearheidi says:

    its Cameron diaz.....lmao.

  • Tanru2000 says:

Wow - I just asked this question at another site. In Australia we vote on a Saturday. We ALL vote (which I like).

What about people who can't get to vote on a Tuesday... due to work etc.?

  • Tanru2000 says:

Well you seem to be on top... ;)

  • Docthewrench says:

AS of today I raised my flat rate hourly rates from 40 to 45 a flate rate hour and Oil changes went up 3 bucks, Tune ups when up 5 bucks and other repairs when up a certian percent, I know why we vote on tuesday long before this

  • PhatZilla187 says:

The deadline is Tuesday. You have over a week before that when you can turn in your ballot.

  • 1trip711 says:

    why is that

  • C-C says:

Looks like no one but us non Americans left in RB land. Ho-hum, what-to-do, what-to-do?

  • The reason we vote on Tuesdays, as you might expect, has to do with farmers! Traditionally, the Fall harvest would end on the final weekend of October. So with one prescribed day for travel (Monday) voting was expected to take place on the first Tuesday of the November, when all land owners and men had nothing else on their minds but the elections. Not surprisingly, this has become archaic, as has daylight-saving time (which has similar origins).

  • black heart says:

Quoting Joe Biden "MARK MY WORDS... Remember I said it standing here if you don't remember anything else I said. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy... I don't know what the decision's gonna be, but I promise you it will occur... I guarantee you it's gonna happen... And he's gonna need help. And the kind of help he's gonna need is, he's gonna need you, not financially to help him, we're gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. BECAUSE IT'S NOT GONNA BE APPARENT INITALLY, IT'S NOT GONNA BE APPARENT THAT WE'RE RIGHT....

From Tuesday to Tuesday, what an amazing 8 months.. Ye all that supported the Blue should be proud.

  • leron says:

Strange. I have this sudden urge to swing from a high ledge.

Damn, Tuesday was a rush. I helped a couple thousand people vote. Then I sat down and watched McCain's concession speech and thought damn, if he had campaigned with that much dignity, he might have won.

Then came Baracks's speech from Grant Park. When he invoked the "preacher from Atlanta" I finally wept.

I slept like the dead most of Wednesday.

Today I'm back at it, awaiting my marching orders from the New World Order. (OK, maybe I'm jumping the gun a bit....)

In late 1974, Gerry Ford famously said: "Our long national nightmare is over." Frankly, Gerry had no idea what "long" or "national nightmare" could really look like. Today, we all do. And hot damn, we took a big step this week toward turning that ugly page of our history.

To those worried about Obama being tested: You're kidding, right? Compared to the tests W. has faced, and the results he has wrought?

To those who voted Tuesday: Thank you.

And to those of us, 20 percent-plus of the country by Gallup's estimate, who voted early: Good for you. There's no question that early voting took some of the strain off the system Tuesday night, which made this election a lot harder for the forces of evil to steal.

(The landslide helped with that too.)

I say we all a get a week off to recover from the last two years of campaigning, and the last eight years of an amoral and incompetent executive branch, and to save up some strength for the fun days to come between now and Obama's inauguration. Bush will appoint every wacko judge he can, pardon every well-connected crook he can, and gut any environmental law he can before he leaves. The Obamas will be lucky if the Bushes leave the drapes hanging in the residence.

There will be lots of work for us all to do to start setting things right.

So rest up, drink warm and nourishing things, stretch all those muscles that have been bunched up with tension for so long.

    And get ready.

Bravo b-man, who'd thunk I would give a complement on your post, but I do love Bollywood and am thinking "Where is ...".

  • C-C says:

Nice work b-man! Great summary leron.

I think the RB crew took that whole Obama winning thing a bit to harshly. It is the end of an (indescribable) era not the end of the world! Certainly not a reason for the end of RB unless the funding got cut due to the election results. Are you still there? Give us a sign!

  • b-man says:

Hey C-C if you're wondering where RB went, this might explain a few things

It seems that Andrew Baron's father passed away recently.
    My sincere condolences Drew.

    Frederick Martin Baron 1947-2008

In addition to his wife, Mr. Baron is survived by two adult children, a son, Andrew Baron, and a daughter, Courtney Baron, both of New York; and three young children, Alessandra Baron , Nathalie Baron and Caroline Baron.

  • b-man says:

    For Drew's Dad...

  • C-C says:

Andrew: please accept my sincere condolences.

B-man: nice choice on the musical tribute and thanks for the info links. I did dig deeper.

  • andrew says:

Way to find the one facet of our elective process that has zero relevance. Why Tuesday? Because the first Monday of November is All Saint's day; a holiday which would have kept the all important Roman Catholic constituency out of the voting booth. Why November? Because the largely agrarian society of the late 1700's was no longer busy tending crops, but not yet snowbound from the winter. Why don't you find a cause worth fighting for, you malcontent.

  • upteach40 says:

    I thought it went back to the horse and buggy days. Sunday was a day of rest, that gave Monday for traveling to voting location, and vote of Tuesday. {seems like I remember learning this back in the day, but I could be full of it.}
