Sewage can be such a scary thing when it’s all around you in your everyday life…
Some of those powerlines they have are insane! It’s like they needed power so they just draped more cables over them.
Freedom’s on the rise!
Oh, by the way, the Mahdi cease fire is over. So much for the surge.
Interesting how the number of comments here is inversely proportional to the seriousness of the show. Are we all too shocked to speak? Do we not care because it’s not our backyard? What did you think was going on over there; actual rebuilding by the troops? Sure, over in the nice neighbourhood where there is a glimmer of a return on the investment.
I wonder if these people weren’t actually happier before the US troops dropped in, despite what we may think of their cultural ways and beliefs.
The old man’s faith was unbelievable. It’s sad. I don’t know what else to say.
One of our database servers were down last night, alls well now.
As you can see below, we have also upgraded the comments functionality, including adding an avatar to your name and tracking recent comments from other posts.
Boo-Hoo, I don’t like change.
Didn’t like that first avatar, neither…see how this’un looks like.
?
Gravatar didn’t like my password and claimed my nickname was already in use, so I changed both. Then it didn’t like one or the other. After 6 changes to no avail I typed garbage text for a nickname and that too was in use!! So I bailed. I hate primitive sites. Glad it worked for you but what the heck am I looking at; half a six-pack?!
C’mon C-C, take a deep breath, and try it again, more slowly this time. It took me a few attempts to get it, too.
I had kind of the same problem. I think it’s because they’re integrating it with WordPress.com, so if you have an account there it might be conflicting
That’s … Gravatar got to me quickly and said they share the same database. I was able to logon using my wordpress user-id. Only problem is my wordpress id is not my rocketboom id … so I have to wait until my rb user-id is approved.
Excellent Report, I love seeing baghdad so up close and personal. Reports like this only serve to enhance my distaste for the general news.
Well done Alive in Baghdad!
NPR’s On The Media did an all-Iraq show last week in commemoration of the 5th anniversary:

There are some really compelling interviews with young Iraqi journalists and bloggers; the Iraq War Timeline is really good too:

Also, Wreck & Salvage had something to say:
Club Iraq from wreckandsalvage on Vimeo.
testing 1, 2, 3
twisting 1, 2, 3…

Nice video. Good translation I guess. Why didn’t they translate “Allah” into english too, when he said it?
Do you remember when people used to say, “Iraq is better off now.” No one is saying that now. This is proof why.
I always find these home-grown field reports incredibly interesting as something new under the sun in journalism. They get around the editorial distance that even the best BBC spots suffer from. I keep thinking it would be great if a Youtube-like site could be set up to field and present these every day. Seriously, with the mountains of reporting we see and hear about Baghdad and Iraq in the mainstream media, have any really given you an idea of what the situation there is like for ordinary people like this one?
The earlier reports from Kenya and the USA campaign trail, where there were Rocketboom affiliates, were also real eye-openers.
