Potatoes – mashups; mashed potatoes! Get it? Oh never mind. I’m graphically challenged so here is my contribution:
You say “potato” I say “pote-ah-toe”; no actually I don’t.
Taters!!
classic!

Poootato, potato potatopo,
tatopo tatopo tatopota,
topotato potato potato,
potato potato potato.
I’m going to rip a MP3 of this song. It’s great!!
2-3 large baking or Yukon Gold potatoes
1 large onion, quarter-inch diced
1 large green pepper, quarter-inch diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 jalapeno, seeded if you don’t like the heat, minced
2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
3 Tablespoons olive oil
–
Mix the onions, peppers and garlic, toss with 1 tsp of the salt and let them sit for a bit.
Grate the potatoes — leave the skins on unless you’re some kind of anti-vitamin, smooth-food fetishist — and soak them in cold water to cover with 1 tsp of the salt for 3-5 minutes.
Meanwhile, sautee the veggies in a big heavy skillet with half the oil on medium heat until well-browned. Set them aside and wipe the skillet clean so nothing will stick.
Drain the potatoes, wrap them in a kitchen towel and squeeze every last drop of water out of them. Repeat with a second dry towel if necessary.
Put the potatoes in a large bowl, add the sauteed veggies and toss to mix well.
Heat the skillet until it’s very hot, reduce the heat to medium, add the remaining oil so that the whole skillet bottom is covered, then gently drop the potatoes into the skillet to form a uniform layer. Sprinkle with black pepper.
Cover and cook 5 minutes, then flip the potatoes — if you’re good they should have formed a single cake which can be flipped in one graceful move. If not, use a spatula to turn them over little by little as best you can. And don’t feel bad. It takes a while to learn this stuff.
Cover and cook 5more minutes, then remove the cover and cook until the crackling sound of the frying potatoes starts to alarm you a little. Flip once more if you dare to crisp the other side too.
Cut into wedges and serve with eggs, which we’ll discuss on National Egg Day.
I got it….LOL!
The music is by Cheryl Wheeler, a treasured New England singer/songwriter.

forgot, I don’t like the look that little blighter in the blue shirt is giving me. He probably knows all the other 164 chants & one on ‘em is very evil & I’m gonna turn into a newt or something.
Fact: Did you know that Jimi Hendrix considered setting a potato on fire and then mashing it instead of his guitar? -It’s true!

Here’s a place I consider a tuber Mecca worthy of Potato Pilgrims the world ’round:
Here’s their site: http://www.pommesfrites.ws/
And here’s their google map: http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&q=pommes+frites&near=New+York,+NY&fb=1&cid=0,0,16247623575218985222&sa=X&oi=local_result&resnum=1&ct=image
-Though you’ll have to go in groups less than 10 in cold weather, as the place is TINY.
Happy potato-ing, RB-ers!
There are over 150 genetic strands of potato. Very few of the strands ever make it to mass production. McDonald’s actually stopped Monsanto Co. from putting it’s genetically produced potatoes into the nations french-fry stocks. When McDonald’s refused to purchase them, Monsanto stopped growing them.
I bet they still have patents on round-up-ready Potato genes though.
Mashups, eh? HAHAHAHAHA….
“The Christ Church of New Zealand”? Did you mean Christchurch, the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand?
i prefer the potato recipes that result in vodka.
preferably russian and of the vanilla sort.
Mmmm…. now I want some mashed potatoes and some greasy cheesy wedges….. Thanks for that.
(Think about nice, slimming celery sticks, Aleya, resist the temptation….)
Go potato
Potatoes are the miracle food.
French fries weren’t made in france.
The skin is healthier than the innards.
Solanum tuberosum rocks!
12 Amazing Uses of Potato
1.As an anti aging agent
Wash your face daily with potato juice (raw potato can be ground with water) which prevents wrinkles on face and make your face glow.
2.Medicine for skin burn
Take a raw sliced potato and make it as a paste by mixing water. Apply the paste on minor skin burns to relieve pain.
3.Medicine for headache
Take a half sliced raw potato, and rub it on your temples to get relief from headache.
4.For tired eyes
Place two round slices on your eyes to reduce the tiredness of your eyes.
5. Remove glue on hands
Potato can remove glue from hands. Use Potato to wash hands when you find it hard to remove the stickiness on hands after handling some sticky vegetables like pumpkin.
6.As a shoe polish
Rub a raw potato on your old, dirty shoes before polishing them. They should come out nice and shiny.
7. Act as a sleeping pill
Potato prevents the action of acids in our stomach that disturb our sleep. Take a boiled and mashed potato with milk before sleeping to have a peaceful sleep.
8. As a polish on silverware
Boil potatoes in some water and remove the potato from water. Place your silver ware in the water for an hour. Silver ware will glaze.
9. Extract salt for curry, soup
If you found excess salt in curry or soup, toss some large sliced potatoes into the curry pot or soup bowl, still on the stove. In about 5 to 10 minutes the potato slices absorb the excess salt. Then remove them from the pot or bowl.
10. Keep glasses clear
Rubbing a potato on the glasses can prevent them from fogging up in the early morning.
11. Make a decorative stamp
A potato can provide the right medium for making your own stamp for decorating envelopes and holiday cards. Cut a potato in half widthwise. Carve a design on one half. Then start stamping as you would with a wooden version.
12. Lure worms in houseplants
If the worms crawl around the roots of plants, place a sliced raw potato around the base of the plant. The worms crawl up to eat it, you can grab them out.
The news is back!
Thanks rocketboom!
Everyone attending this year’s World Potato Congress will get a potato clock. Then they’ll get dressed, have breakfast and be there by 9:30.
so… why has Rocketboom never done a feature on RACCOON WILLIE?
I am now dumber
A part of the potatoe we eat is actually the root of the potato plant. In carrot plants we eat the stem. Fruit trees like apples and oranges we are eating the flower.
Germans call them, pomme frittes, I think.
John Wayne eats a raw potato, skin and all, in the movie, The Quiet Man (1952), sitting next to the beautiful, redheaded Maureeen O’Hara. Filmed in Ireland. Great old flick!
This is great as my surname on Second Life is potato. As Epredator online I decided to pick potato from the list that was available when I joined Sl 2 years ago. Epredator Potato seemed to scan well, and like your joke I was planning on doing SL mashups. Also people get scared of the predator costume, but with a name like potato who is going to worry
Finally to quote predator 2 – “You cant see the eyes of the potato til him come callin’”
I am honoured that this is the year of the potato and wish all my fellow potato’s in SL a good year
