In any group dynamic, unless an extremely rigid formal system is imposed, a significant amount of resources must be spent simply in the effort to communicate.
Thus, the collective intelligence of any group must be less than the sum of its parts. Put just two people of exactly equal intelligence in a room together, and they will still bring down the average.
Thus, while some *people* may be smart, every *crowd* is an idiot.
