In honor of today\’s episode, Elllie is forcing us to listen to 80\’s pop in the studio today. So far the playlist has included:

    Wham!
    Pat Benatar
    Journey
    Sting
    Whitney Houston
    Billy Joel
    Madness
    Naked Eyes
    Asia
    Taco

If we move on to Olivia Newton John, I\’m calling the police.

      2. It takes a man to admit his weaknesses, so here\’s a simple musicology lesson for today. Memorize all 500 LPs and you\’ll be the hippest cat on the block…and go do some album shopping.

I am happy to report that I have a majority of the albums in the RS Top 100.

And they\’re all filed next to copy of Rick Astley\’s Greatest Hits.

Come on! You kids don\’t even look old enough to remember what an \’album\’ even is! Why Ellie couldn\’t have been more than just a little kitten, if that, when those tunes hit the airwaves. What the heck moved her to pull that out now? Answer: today\’s music sucks and the solution is to dig back into the gold of yesteryear!

When those 80s tunes were \’in\’ I was digging back to the gold of the 60s & 70s - now that was music! Now my 2 little boys are anomalies; they much prefer tunes of the 60s & 70s as opposed to the 90s & 0Xs. I wonder why that is?!

Why I remember back when … oh never mind, you\’re too young! Cheers!

    2. What about Simple Minds, The Fix, Thomas Dolby, Billy Idol, Joan Jett, Talking Heads, Bowie and so on and so forth. Her list makes one think 80s music was just lame.

  27. Cool Friday show! Very excellent filming/imaging; well done!

Half the reason to have bought an lp album was for the cover, according to my grandmother; as I\\\’m not old enough to remember vinyl albums.

Yes I am (old enough), sadly. Hey, a little while back in my life I once imagined collaborating with someone over creating artwork for album/CD covers. Today I still very much–maybe perhaps even more so, really–want to do that, but I fret and vex about things like a) my being qualified enough (Adobe cs3 is overwhelming sometimes (grasp resistant)), b) sending out inquires that probably won\\\’t get a direct response, and c) worrying that it might be now or never as CD\\\’s move on; although digital downloads do come with accompanying artwork, so hence maybe I\\\’ll get my wish after all, with this enticingly new media for the future. I\\\’d be a very lucky guy to get a gig like that.

But for now I moonlight weekends as an imaginary world-renowned pastry chef. Icing on one\\\’s fingertips provides a decent diversion. My specialty: Decadence-filled cream puffs drizzled with Smucker\\\’s Caramel Sundae Syrup and topped with dark organic fruit components. Tasty! I have no idea what I\\\’m talking about right now, and this paragraph has no further depth of meaning other then the following: I like whiskey; and I\\\’m enjoying a bunch right now as I type this! Belch. Pardon me.

Anyway, here\\\’s to RocketBoom making social visits to other websites, and moreover:

    here\\\’s to Joanne who rocked

  28. Wow, note to self: stay away from computerr when getting loaded… try again, herre goes:

“But today our very survival depends on our ability to stay awake, to adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and to face the challenge of change. The large house in which we live demands that we transform this world-wide neighborhood into a world-wide brotherhood. Together we must learn to live as brothers or together we will be forced to perish as fools.

We must work passionately and indefatigably to bridge the gulf between our scientific progress and our moral progress. One of the great problems of mankind is that we suffer from a poverty of the spirit which stands in glaring contrast to our scientific and technological abundance. The richer we have become materially, the poorer we have become morally and spiritually.”
