  1. Hey all, we’ve a had a pretty big week with the upgrades but the servers endured the storm and survived. The files have gone on to replicate in a way that seems beneficial. We run 5 dedicated machines but now we have a whole new OS and way more space to live on. With regards to release times, we’ll be early and on-time from here on out, saving any problems from meteorites, dinosaurs or nukes.

OK, there are lots of changes going on the old archive comments, and I wish to selectively remove them. And because I want to is because they’re useless from me. I’m the one who done all this, and now I don’t want them anymore.

So today, I’m going to make things more better for you:

Well “A request for Drew” although your comments are useless (these also) to you, I am sure that you are pleased that the normal viewers of this board and Drew himself find them rather botherlsome and useless and classified as SPAM. Me I wish script kiddies would pick on some more deserving sites.
Drew, Jamie and ??? — don’t you have the ip from this poster? It’s fairly possible to block an ip but then again the spammer will switch ips. When I was maintaining a web site I had to ban one particularly obnoxious poster. Unfortunately I had to ban what effectively was an entire province. Hopefully some of you techies can do better.

Well guess what? I wasn’t satisfied with the comments I’ve done and now they’re useless for me. So that’s what I wanted - removing comments posted by a list of people who commented shown on the list above by A Request for Drew.

Also requested to use a different http://www.rocketboom.com ending.

  4. I bet Joanne would find great success as the voiceover for film clips at the Museum of Natural History. Could there be a spinoff in the offering, just in case a MoNH staffer is peeking in?

Ha! At 2:17 Joanne said “…just a fluke…”. Get it? Fluke; like the tail fins of whales & dolphins. Oh never mind.

Oh yeah … the eyebrow raise is back! Yummy! Haven’t seen that in such a long time I almost forgot about it but today’s made up for the absence! Yesterday’s closeup angled shot near the beginning of the show was a nice twist but very reminiscent of a time BJ (before Joanne). I know Joanne is just too classy to bring back the “AC hair toss” though.

    Great lesson on evolution!

I’m sorry… what did the poor mummy whale getting bitten or snagged on coral have to do with mutations??? I know you are NOT suggesting that an accident at birth becomes a genetic defect???

    1. I think that Joanne was just narrating that animation and not bothering to point out those flaws… the rocketboom team definitely knows better than to believe that large-scale physical damage causes mutations.

I’ve got a TED talk on this topic. Watch it if you can:

Also: There was a program on PBS recently. -I want to say it was “Nova” where they talked about Dogs.

There’s this guy who purports to break at least -part- of Evolution in that it Does make quick jumps, instead of Long, Slow, Eon-ic, Trudging progress.

He says Dogs evolved from Wolves Very quickly; not nearly as long as had been thought.

    I think it was here:

  12. But you glossed over the most important thing evolution needs to prove - how inanimate life became animate. Just saying, “Ehh, don’t worry about how it happened” doesn’t do much for someone who really wants to know!

    1. The theory of evolution doesn’t really cover how life forms out of “nothing”; there is no natural selection if there’s nothing to select from yet. There are other theories on how life started on Earth, but I won’t go into that right now.

  14. i love your vlog, until the evolution, and happy b-day to Darwin issue. now i have a slight issue. seriously, there is a difference between macro and micro evolution. in the human world we call mutations cancer. i’m not a proponent of creationism. in addition, lets take a “small” change, like a lung instead of a gill. there are millions if not billions of amino acids that simultaneously have to change, this does not fit the definition of evolution and has never been observed. i could go on here, but if you really want to educate yourself then watch this video.

    1. Hi Joshua,

I’ll start by saying that no, I didn’t watch your hour long video because I don’t have the time, and I have likely already heard all the arguments presented.

The assumption that Darwin’s theory requires macroevolution is typically a knee-jerk reaction that hasn’t received a lot of open-minded thinking. I won’t ask you to read the Origin of Species, but at least read the small excerpt from the following page:

      http://www.talkorigins.org/indexcc/CA/CA113_1.html

It does not talk about gills -> lungs, but it talks about the evolution of the eye. Tell me what you think.
