  1. I watched a couple times while referring to my own notes, and I am pretty sure a seven was omitted. My notes are pretty messy though. And it’s early. I will defer to you.

I love any episode where Joanne walks or prances about town and sings (or lip syncs)! Mmmm! Pizza! I know what I’m having for lunch. The writing on the wall scenes look like something out of “A Beautiful Mind”!

I also think the sequence is …211706799 and not …211706798 but I may have miscarried a 1 after turning left at Albuquerque!

I’m sorry, did you say 6229489?

I always thought it was 6329489.

    This changes everything!

There’s an old gag about the Alabama Legislature passing a law, officially rounding off pi to appease Bible wackos. Totally false:

    (For now, at least.)

That was 1998 and would so easily be accepted as true today!Sentences like “never knowing the exact answer could harm students’ self-esteem” and “…looks forward to students having the freedom to decide for themselves what value pi should have” fit right on today’s list of excuses for accepting mediocrity!! Those ideologies would quickly migrate to other faculties and pretty soon Ebonics is accepted since it’s close enough, 1+1= whatever you want, North is South etc.On a somewhat related note, but quite non-fictional, there is a movement afoot in Toronto, Ontario (big city & province here in Canada) to create an Afrocentric school! Of course it will be open to anyone and everyone. This is generating great debate.

Hey! I wrote and previewed 3 paragraphs!! What’s a guy got to do in here now to get a line break?

Well it’s heard to give you html w/o it taking effect.
But here is a simple “
          give you a break “

          - simple HTML - also a new paragraph
          would be “ ” w/o the ee!

Sorry about slipping fingers simplest html which
I can’t show you here. Command delimiters “< " and
"> with “br” for line break and “p” between delimeters.

You mean <br> and <p> right? :) Now you do it!

We didn’t used to have to do this in here. Up until a few days ago it was pretty WYSIWYG. Something changed in here.

uhmmm I always preview and then usually trip over HTML which I really shouldn’t. Thanks for posting it correctly using the < , > character escapes which I neglected to do!

OK, but let’s be fair. “Accepting Ebonics” is a long way from what I have seen the best big-city teachers do, which is to recognize that culturally derived speech patterns are real, and use that knowledge to push kids toward making real progress toward mastering “Standard Written English.” These teachers get rapped unfairly all the time for “accepting Ebonics.”

How do you post an image? Do it like this?

          < img > [url here] < /img >

          How about YouTube embeds?

          Do I have to use < embed > or < object > ?

          I’m lazy!

I wish someone would delete these two posts with broken URLS.

You cannot check links if you can’t re-edit your post.

            It’s ridiculous.

    1. You are so very welcome Bob, glad I could help. You just reminded me of a tune that never fails to cheer me up. That would be Mistadobalina by Del The Funky Homosapien. The lyrics aren’t too chipper but the tune and chorus certainly are.

  8. The song’s a bit repetitive, which is bizarre since pi is irrational (i.e. it does not repeat itself) :P

  10. This song has that “one take” quality that makes it cool. I wish there was no glitch in the song, 26 seconds in, when Joanne looks in close at the pecan pie.

Drew did you ever end up releasing some of those CDs? I see from “archives” that you wrote much of your own music, which is very neat.
I like the way the video cut across the 3 or 4 scenes and flipped back and forth between them as the song went on.

karen, definitely a trigger mechanism for Saturday and a known catalyst for Sundays. Of course, it’s made out of the good stuff skimmed off of Wednesdays and Thursdays, and it does take some doing to put together.

Loved the video! You’re never predictable. Had something of a zen quality to it. For a minute or two, I was centered; surrounded by a circumference…staring along a radius.

So… I like the video. I believe that your audio comes from the last 1m07s of this rather trippy video and song by Hard ‘N Phirm:
    http://hardnphirm.wordpress.com/2007/05/07/5/
Which means I assume you’re not the original singer. Unless… maybe you recorded this with them last May? Because that would be freaking pi-tastic! Just curious.

Of course the best song about Pi is the imaginitively titled “Pi” by Kate Bush from her latest album Aerial. You could do worse than listen to the whole double album which I find perfectly breathtaking. But then I am a massive Kate Bush fan. Actually, it’s not just me - the critics seem to agree!

I watch you every day on my Tivo. I think my wife is jealous. My 10-year old daughter was taken by your pi video. I have downloaded it to her iPod and she promises to learn it this weekend while she is at Disneyworld. Geeks rule!

  21. My two-year old son Benjamin is completely fascinated by this. He’s mesmerized watching it, and he now says “Rocketboom! Rocketboom!” all the time, and -every- time the TV gets turned on (it’s saved indefinitely on our living-room Tivo).

He also loves the prominently-displayed pizza, shouting “pizzaaaaaa!” every time he sees it. It’s hilarious and cute as hell at the same time.

Oh, and he also thinks Joanne is “very pretty, Daddy.” ;)

Thanks for this. It’s been (and continues to be) a great source of repeat entertainment in our house.
