Drew, I’m having a difficult time here trying to figure out what the argument in the RB office could be in favor of keeping these dweebie comments in here. It is obviously a completely different demographic (said politely) from the usual riff-raff (myself included) that writes here and I’m sure you noticed that the usual suspects have not participated nearly as much since this comment integration. They YTers don’t see what we write anyways unless they actually come to the RB site; which I can pretty much guarantee they don’t. So help a brother out man; what’s up with this???
Hey CC, I somewhat agree that the situation is not so great right at the moment for some of the reasons you point out. However there are a lot of benefits that seem to be working. A lot of the YT commenters are really cool actually and have some fun and interesting things to say so its nice to read these w/o having to go over to YT. They can also cause people to respond and carry on a conversation here anyway, even if they dont come over to jump in. There is also no reason why you can’t go over there and comment to them directly if you are really feeling it. Perhaps its this point of hope: Though most will not move back and forth, hopefully some will and cause for more activity on both sites. Comments on YT tend to roll off the page really fast so older comments dont usually get read or seen there.
But at the end of the day, Rocketboom is pretty spread out all over the place and we want to work towards making rocketboom.com the center point where you can find everything. We would like to aggregate comments and info from other sites into here too so that this becomes the one place that has it all, so to speak. The big picture, as it were. The mother ship, if you will.
“A lot of the YT commenters are really cool” c’mon Drew, half of the comments here are bull shit, the “mother ship” should punch their ticket & eject them out the back. Why in the world would I want to waste time going to YT so I could “carry on a conversation” with any of these idiots. You’ve got the power, keep these dorks off RB, keep it clean & keep it pure.

Ok, what if we continue to import the YT comments, but we keep them separate? We could have site comments listed first and then a section below that with all the YT comments. That would make it better right? Because then you could just ignore the YT comments if you wanted to.
Well again, they still don’t move me, and b-man’s list outdoes yours by a mile and a half. Yes, there are some good ones in there but as a whole they just cheapen the quality of your last 4 years of labor. Constantly filtering them seems like time well wasted! And there will be days everyone at RB will be too busy to filter; what then?
That said, your suggestion seems like a happy medium. As leron wrote; it’s all about opening up to new voices, however; a nice thing is current tech also allows us to filter out those we don’t want to hear. The hic here is this site is not under our control so we must put up, shut up, or voice up. Some of us chose the latter and here we are. Collaborative progress? Anyways, by editing a few lines of code you can always revert!
