I think you need to acknowledge, before the “Earth Day 2007″ banner appears at the end, that this is a re-run.

All due respect, please note there has been some rumbling in the comments of late about eps not showing up on time, etc. This after a major PR push about how things were going to change.

RB remains the cat’s pajamas, in my book. But if you’re having trouble hitting the very ambitious goals you have set, you should let us know.

Thanks Leron (and Kam) for keeping us on our toes for explaining, sometimes we do run into production problems and universally, the reason why an episode is late or replaced is due to one of two things:

      (1) Either Joanne got sick (this has been a really bad season for everyone on the sick front – she has been out more than 4 weeks this year already, and Im actually sick today) – I know I think it has to do with the Industrial revolution

      or,

      (2) The episode had major production problems and we decided to take the extra time to improve the episode or find a replacement.

Today for instance, we really wanted to run Drew’s O’s dumpster-diving piece. Personally, I love it and think the concept is 110% awesome. However, we ran into some bad luck on the production side of things with the video quality. Have a look at the episode and let me know what you think. I got really dizzy and personally decided that I wasn’t happy enough with the video quality so we opted out of making it the primary episode.

However, regarding effort, Drew O did a huge amount of work (this is totally unusual for his typical excellent quality of work) and then we spent a day re-editing it, trying to revive the piece.

What do you think? Should we of run the Dumpster Diving piece anyway? Tuff call.

Always feel free to ask why something is the way it is. Im happy to be upfront about our production process. Rest assured, we are giving this our all and care more than ever. Sleepless nights continue on, using every last minute we can get, almost always wishing we had even more time to improve every episode we have ever done.

If we could, Id like to take a week to create each episode, then put it down for a week and then revisit it fresh to improve on it again. One day when I retire at the age of 700 or 800 years, Ill prob go back an re-edit everything :)

Obvioulsy what makes this whole thing special is that the quality is *not* the most imporrtant thing. With an empasis on creativity, I knew we had to make the episode available and I think in this format, people should not complain. We’ve run into many a worse problems ourselves and will again in the future, no doubt.

I stand to believe this one was just a fluke, something that happens to us on our own productions quite regulary and will no doubt continue to happen again and again.

The message is there and that’s why we just had to include it today somehow.

            Thanks for the update.

“I wish we had a week.” Brother, anyone who has ever tried to write a story and pay the light bill with the proceeds can relate to that.

I’ve always thought RB’s schedule was ambitious, given your resource picture, and I guess I just worry you’re going to burn out.

Illness has taken quite the toll across the nation this year. The flu shot was a bomb, effective in less than half the recipients, and a lot of folks around here are complaining of the “rebound bug,” where you spend three days in bed making gurgling sounds, then climb out and resume your life for two days, then go back down for four days more. I think I’m in the middle stage at the moment, actually.

Drink more tea. Keep your protein intake up, that’s important (even if you’re a serious raw freak, actualy especially then). And keep having fun, that’s important too.

Thanks for the detailed explanation! I hadn’t seen the earth day episode before and I very much enjoyed it. Actually I didn’t even notice the ’2007′ banner before reading leron’s comment.
Reading your (Andrew’s) remarks on today’s and other days’ episodes really makes me feel at home on rocketboom.com. Great personal note. Thank you very much for all your effort!
I hope everyone gets better soon!
        All the best wishes!

I recognized it immediately from last year. It is a great episode and just as powerful a message today as last year.

Yeah it is sad to hear that the crew has been sick, on and off. Joanne I hope you feel better soon!

      • Kam says:

Please don’t take any of my comments too seriously, I’m just poking fun at you as any friend would do. I agree with leron, I don’t wanna see a rocket engine burnout, so take care of yourselves, take them vitamins & juice.
I thought a recycled ep quite appropriate for a day emphasizing recycled goods.

I was going to make some facetious comment
    about Recycled Rocketboom episodes prevent
global warming, but then I read leron’s comment, then drew’s,
then drew #2, then drew again, then drew #2 again, then leron, then drew, then I too got really dizzy
and decided to post this, cause in the scheme of things, it don’t mean a thing…

And if you don’t believe me check this one out as well:

I actually liked this very much. This clip took Earth Care out of left brain chatter where one can intellectualize till the cows (moo) come home. It showed real people, kids, families, the human race celebrating and caring for the planet: enjoying the gifts of earth, air, water, & fire. Great job!

I personally don’t mind lateness in RB. I’m not that big of an addict. Although i enjoy seeing the weirdness that sometimes comes out. There are days where its just like any old video out there. I’ve noticed Joanne looking pale in some of the past episodes. Bless her for putting the effort even though she probably wasn’t feeling her best. Keep up the good work.

Also just putting this out there, you guys at rocketboom should stop trying so hard to be creative and go back to basics. Chill and relax, you prob come up with fun stuff.
