Wow… looks like what Woodstock would have looked like if everyone had taken bad acid at the gate! ‘Glad I’m not young anymore (and I thought I was wild back in ‘67 — although I was in Vietnam during Woodstock ;-)

Hey, it\’s like the \’60s, only with less mud and worse hats!
And, apparently, a truckload of mushrooms. Maybe two.
I\’d love to see some stats on who attends Burning Man: Income, net worth, etc. It\’s not clear to me if there\’s still a counter culture per se or, if there is, whether I could afford to join.
I saw Dylan live a couple years back. I was fresh off a freelance gig and hadn\’t even gotten home yet. I had three days of beard and a serious road-buzz after a week of too much coffee and too little sleep. It was festival seating, and as I guarded my two square feet of floor by the stage, I was descended upon by wave after wave of freshly scrubbed Yuppies. They packed in all around, some in button-down shorts, others in spangles and party togs, all tasteful as hell. When Bobby actually came out I took great comfort in the fact that he looked as scruffy as I did. Literally no else else did. The times, they are-a-changin\’.
sorry, i was being too clever to say: very nice report. good images and sound, nice mixing and pacing. you\’ll see the same said below about rhe anti-truther piece but that\’s cuz sometimes it\’s 2 a.m. and i\’m not thinking clearly and don\’t line up my comments right. sometimes.
I had a similar thought, “Don’t take the brown acid!”
makes me miss the wine dinners at Barrington hall in berkeley http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrington_Hall/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrington_Hall
Here is more on who Juliette Powell is.
I’ll bet those 2 little kids had something to share at Show-and-Tell when they got back to school!
That last comment about people in all deserts being burning men. What was that? Does anyone realize what Burning man is? It’s $200 to get in, so you have to “not be free” to get in than you roam around “Acting” free only to go back to your sh*t life afterwards. I can “act” free at any party on any day in New York, being “free” is being free from the Burning Man/Rainbow Gathering/Woodstock meme.
Looks freaky, like the set of a Mad Max flick at points.
all the deserts of the word should be full of red clad bikini girls
So that is where the \”in crowd\” has got to!
I recognized them immediately despite their disguises.
They seem to have found an effective way to cull the obese from their numbers.
They are probably being free and being themselves in one important sense. Despite burgeoning pressures and some possible demise, the middle class can still afford to schedule time to not think about their cares and commitments and to have an alternative self for parties and such.
Thanks for this video… we were dying to go this year but it wasn’t in the cards. It’s truly an amazing experience like no other - there’s virtually no commerce. It’s an experiment in community. Yeah, you have to be privileged to participate because the event costs a lot of money, even to get the land permit. It’s not anything like any party you’ve been to, I can assure you.
ps - I really hate the Rocketboom comment registration system. never works for me - GRR!
Heya Chuck - when you say never works, what do you mean? That you cant remember your password? :)
Seriously though, anyone having problems?
Me yet again. I haven\’t logged out in a while but whenever I\’ve had to log back in it never works on the first try. First it tells me to login or register to leave a comment; which I\’ve just done, complete with the green logged in message. Then I get a message about being an impostor of an existing subscriber. Finally I flush my cache, reload the page and away we go.
I celebrate my burning man every November 5th
even though he broke his neck, I still bung him on the coals!
And what, pray tell, does it say about us that we derisively refer to the wackiest of the wackos as \”truthers\”?
I know, they think they have the truth, they want the truth revealed, etc. etc. Just seems ironic.
Poor little buggers. They just can\’t wrap their minds around what happened and, like religious people throughout history, they fall into myth to make sense of the things that scare them.
News flash: A handful of scum-sucking bastards rammed two of our buildings with fully loaded jumbo jets. The event defies all the pissant modeling and thermite/phosphorous/blah-blah suppositions because nothing remotely like that had ever happened before. Nothing has ever come close. It\’s like taking the speedometer off your bicycle and trying to use it to clock the Indy 500. The data make no sense, because your stuck with a paradigm that simply cannot record what happened.
I have yet to go back, in part because I fear that I might do something stupid to the first griefer/truther who got in my face. Oh, and because I want to wait until it\’s not just a goddamned hole in the ground.
Oh, forgot to say: Nice piece. Good camera and sound, nice cuts, nice pace.
I thought Burning Man was dead 5-6 years ago. I don\’t know anyone who goes to it anymore.
What a lame episode! Has the guy never heard of Streetparades? I don\’t know what is new about this festival…
Burning Man \’07 from about 3,000 feet I think I see a mushroom or two!

This post is from Mike Dixon who became a victim of the RB spam filter so until we hash it out, I asked him to send over the image so I could post it for him:
lust, depravity, flesh,… Lost souls. Forever?

The world is all about entertainment, that\’s why it\’s so f***cked up.
Then we see a Rudd report and exclaim, \”Oh, that\’s so sad\”
when everything he reports on has been going on for decades.
I\’m Paris, and I\’m not as dumb as I look.
Haha I just found this site from CSI….haha so umm how did they get this site on that show??
