Rocketboom

8 Comments on Wednesday September 5, 2007 : Cell Phone Reporting from Africa

  1. forget about the slums, the poverty, the corruption, the inhumanity, the detention of any opposition to the powers that be, the incarceration of jounalists, the list goes on and on. Let’s just focus on a phone and not ask any serious questions as to why these people continue to live as they do.

However, had he been walking through Gaza or the West bank >>>>>>>>the phone would fade into the background as the focus would zero in on one tiny nation. The hyprocrisy of this world is deafening, sickening and disgusting.

    Another kindergarten report from Africa.

Q: What is happening with the water problem?
A: There’s not enough water for the community!
Then who’s dumping thousands of gallons of water on the 18 hole golf course next to it!

Hey guys, how come I can\’t see the video? It just shows me the \’No such film\’ logo and a jingle. Yesterday I was cut off halfway through as well, then led to the DotSub-homepage.. Can you tell me what\’s wrong?

    Yeah, cool shirt!

And, very cool report on mobile reporting in Africa.

You guys realize Rocketboom is not a huge top-down international news organization, right? There is nobody at Rocketboom, or indeed most news orgs, saying \”Let\’s send a correspondent into Nairobi and find out why they don\’t have clean water.\” But if you paid any attention to this story you\’d have learned there is a mobile reporter reporting on exactly that issue for Voices of Africa.

This is what\’s so great about the new wave of citizen journalism. You don\’t have to sit there and bitch about some issue not being covered - you can pick up a camera or a mobile phone and go cover it yourself.
