Wow, American troops get paid nothing! So what if they\’re being provided food and shelter? That\’s still insanely low it seems. Thanks for the story; never heard much about Blackwater before.
Some fight for glory, ideal, values and now some for money. We all fight to protect our way of life in our own ways. Who need to scream patrioatism the most?
A guy who leaves Texas to drive trucks in Iraq is a contractor.
A guy who leaves Texas to tote a machine gun in Iraq and shoot “bad guys,” or anyone who might be a bad guy, is a mercenary. (Unless he’s in the military, in which case his labor apparently is worth only 14 percent as much.)
Makes you wonder what Bush will try to outsource next.
BTW, check out “Home to Houston” by Steve Earle, which I suspect is being blared from many a rig on the Baghdad to Basra run.
Hey, I just saw someone at a new politics site doing a dead-on impersonation of Joanne and RB!

All I have to say is this…
I substituted your mandala for my usual one this morning & for some reason, after 5 minutes of meditation, I have a strong desire to have sex & eat carrots. (the 400 rule just don’t cut it in this instance)
& now after watching todays RB, I can’t get this song out of my head!
Kiss My Axe
Politically connected mercs with perq\’s (Hessian\’s with $100K tax free) just make me sad, so I really have nothing to add there.
But… Joanne it was really nice to meet you in SF last night. The grace and charm that comes through the little screen turns out to only hint at the real thing. I just hope I didn\’t gush like a star struck school boy! :) Keep up the wonderful work here. It\’s really something special.
Very interesting and informative. Great episode.
