It\’s not a bad way for that post education voyage that many people take. And as Robert says he is not the first one to make this without cost trip. My favorite is Ramon Stoppelenburg (From The Netherlands - Zwolle) who made a two year trip(2001-2003) in Canada calling it \”Let me Stay for A Day\”. He provided both a blog (was it called that in 2001?) and wonderful videos. You can see info about Ramon at http://www.letmestayforaday.com/ There are a few videos if you Google Ramon Stoppelenburg. If you have 5 minutes to spare there is a fine compilation of all his videos at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4NYMVj3UsI

  8. Ze Frank promoted a similar project earlier this year. The RunningFool Trip (http://www.zefrank.com/thewiki/RunningFool_Trip). Different slant, but the same basic idea.

Awwww, who wouldn’t open up their house to that guy, he’s so cute and Coming-Of-Age 2.0….

I’m tempted to offer up my house so we can sit down and have a discussion of newspaper reportage, and the various aspects of “reporting real human experience.” Mainstream papers are evil, to be sure, but they can still provide you, as no other medium can, with tools you can take elsewhere — if you’re one of the 11 people in this country who still has a job at a paper, that is.

I’m as Webbed-up as the next guy, but I can’t help but wonder if Matt and those like him might not also benefit from trying a no-money trip across the country or two device-free. It’s called hitching, or used to be. I could send you some literature on it. Or I could just tell you some of my own stories. Me and my buddies used to travel that way all the time, and remarkably enough we all survived. (Though there was this one night outside of Denver I wasn’t too sure….) Sometimes working without a net can be liberating.

Yeah, one truly wonders how Kerouac and the rest actually got anywhere without a Blackberry, and how in total desolation they would not develop a crave for wireless, but baseball news and women… strange days.

Btw, am I the only one here who thinks the host has some… strange… stuff around his bedroom? I mean, wig, no problem, but the hand puppet?!

I should have remained asleep, unlike Matt’s goof ball friend hamming it up in the background.
“Cute” leron says, this guys got about as much charisma as a stick of abc gum but if he can swim the Pacific I might let him stay on the beach.

As much as I agree with you here; bottom line is he is the one out on the road and we’re in here commenting about it!

Happy trails Matthew. If you’re ever around Montreal look us up! No hand puppets here.

And if you bring C-C some barbecue, you can probably crash at his place for a month.

I thought you were the BBQ ribs guy?! But seeing as how he\’s scamming everything on his trip that means he\’d be packing leftovers from Louisiana (hey, I don\’t settle for just any old BBQ!) and I don\’t think it\’ll last until he gets here. Plus there is the dog who will lick his ears in the morning; he may just prefer puppet-man in San Fran!

iT sounds like Matthew might have to settle for some on his big ol\’ trip.

    Best \’o\’ luck!

This guy\’s nothing more than a clever freeloader. Nothing new, or particularly admirable, about that.
