    I believe the strain is called H5N1.

    I\’ve read that the chances of a human-to-human strain is low, due to the improbability of the \’right\’ mutation.

    I hope that\’s true. -s

    I concur with Dr. stephbabe: H5N1

    The contrast of life depicted in Ruud\’s reports is astounding. From people working in these high tech labs to others merely across town living in and around garbage dumps, to still others existing in less than minimal standards in the dusty, arid desert all within the same region.

    Hard to absorb.

    Thanks for the early post RB.

    Interesting. But what do they do with the captured birds? They are banding them, which means they want to be able to ID them later. But are the killing them and storing the carcasses or what? I didn\’t see anything resembling an aviary in that field camp. And if you\’re worried a bird might have H5N1, you wouldn\’t release it, would you?

      Very cool image! When I \’squint\’, Joanne pops right up.

      btw, I did a neat Photoshop of Godzilla with that scrunched building yesterday, but couldn\’t figure out how to embed it to this board. I used to know how to handle Dos, but that was decades ago… now I\’m an XP slave ;-) So, how?

        Save your image to a publicly accessible server such as your own website, blog or even a Flickr (or similar) account. Then copy its location and paste it here using the following code. There is an unwritten rule in here to try and respect a 400 x 400 size limit.

        <img src=\”http://www.yourdomain.com/yourpic.gif\” height=\”400\” width=\”400\”>

        The height & width aren\’t needed if the image is already small. You can replace 400 with lower proportionate sizes to maintain your image aspect.

    He can artfully compress a wide context and complex information into a well-considered, 3 minute report. That’s not easy.

    Keep up the good work.

      I echo old man. I love the idea of having a one man camera team going out to the far reaches of the world, shooting and cutting a piece for distribution to a small but influential/curious audience.
      Having spent have my life in mainstream media, I say rock on RB and Ruud! You guys are the best!

  9. Ruud - how on earth do you get such incredible access to film all this??? A great piece yet again.

    I did feel for that plover though - yes, it looks like they get tagged and set free but getting swabbed up your cloaca…! Yikes!
