That same guy could be doing a tourist flyover of NYC. I’m sure our Rocketboom hosts felt right at home.
“Whew!” ‘Glad yesterdays forum is over.
Why does it look like (most) of Israel is paved over and crowded with buildings? I know it’s not… (visited Google Earth) it just looked like it in todays snippet.

The center of the country is almost over populated, but the south and north aren’t like that.
…”First woman Arab Christian elected to the parliament, elected by one of the Zionist parties….”
All you “Minus People” from yesterday, name one Arab country in the entire middle-east where such a thing is possible. I rest my case.
Uh, Okay!
Hysteric.
Let’s see, in ‘71 you would have had Royal 440s and yellow paper and pica poles and rubber cement? And razor knives if you were also pressed into layout service. Personally I liked catching the papers best. Good exercise, good chance to practice a rhythm. Got me further from the awful stink of the waxer too.
Or maybe your paper was big enough that you didn’t have to mess with the backshop. If so, too bad.
Do tell how you invented the new journalism. (snicker)
Right, Father Leron, blessing be upon you.
huh?
you’re hilarious!
hey ksalan salan, I’m surprised you weren’t demonstrating with your brethren.

Let’s see, I can only assume that those who added their “-” agree with the insane action of the muslim doctors intent on blowing up young partying Britains. Or you’re sorry you couldn’t make it to the demonstration. Either way, I’m sure you’ll have many more opportunities.

“A Good Day” with Brother David Steindl-Rast
I was hoping that JoCo could get an exclusive interview with Farfur while she’s there. Oh, I forgot he got killed on a children’s television program. Well, at least an interview with the 12-year old host of that show so we can hear what happend to Farfur.

has normal service resumed on this forum yet? No? Right, OK….
Just a quickie then: I would love to be able to live off solar power for seven months. I’m telling you, sometimes it’s an effort just getting my casio solar calculator to come to life over here!
If you happen to live in NYC, go to the first solar house in Manhattan — it’s called Solar One and it’s amazing. They intend to build a much larger house soon — on the East River. Check out its design, very cool — http://www.solar1.org/
Drew, yesterday’s exchange says a whole lot more
about Rocketboom’s demographics than the survey
you took months back. I’ll just leave it at that.
Interpret it anyway you wish.

Drew, yesterday’s exchange certainly DOES say a lot about RB demographics. I’m usually an optimist, but yesterday’s forum was half full of poison. Today’s seems to be not much better.
Will you travel to Palestine too?
Seems it’s open season on Jews…again.
Recent Documentary titled “The War on Britain’s Jews?” Part 1 of 6

I’m sure you can find the other 5 parts on your own.
Perhaps you should seriously consider taking your noble issues to another more appropriate forum where your comments and posts will be more appreciated. You seem to be hell bent on ruining RB with your hate. All of it is a war of hates. Hate is what war IS. Your hate, and theirs. I don’t know much, but I think I do understand that correctly.
Now, give us a break, please. Post more like “Good Day” … I liked that. You should realize that you are actually HURTING your cause.
Dear Gentleman,
On July 2, Drew and Joanne announced they were in Tel Aviv for a hi-tech
blog conference. So for the fun of it I posted the worldwide famous
tune–Hava Nagilah, played by an orchestra led by renowned violinist
André Rieu. This is a tune that is well known by many nationalities and religions.Over the years I’ve seen people from every cultural background dance and sing to it in joy, harmony & peace. Well, that day the “minus” signs came fast and furious.
I was simply shocked. They show 3 seconds of an Israeli beach and I post
a song as a “Go get ‘em” tribute to RB’s presence at the blog conference
and all day long the “-” kept coming on the YouTube performance I had posted. I added a few “+” myself to counteract as there were a total of -68 at one point.
Now if you want to talk about HATE…that action was pure hate.
A concerted effort to denigrate a song that has Israeli roots.
WTF was that all about–I posted an innocent song…had they been in Tokyo I probably would have dug up some Japanese tune. I saw and felt the HATE on RB on July 2nd.
Perhaps you should have posted that day Dear Gentleman and inquired why people were dissing a song that was Israeli in nature. Where were you that day?
As per the videos showing the palestinian educational system
where little tots are taught to hate from age 3. Sorry, if it
offends your sensibilities, but that is the reality in Palestinian schools.
And that was mild, you should see there school books. I refrained from showing those.
So if you can’t take a bit of TRUTH one day and absorb
what goes on in indoctrinating martyrs for Allah, then
you live in a marshmallow world with peaches and cream.
After the HATE shown on July 2, I figured maybe
yesterday was a good time for some education… I was wrong… it’s pointless. There’s an old expression: “It’s like talking to a brick wall!”
Here it is again:

Andre Rieu - Hava Nagila
B-man,
Great song. Sorry your post was dissed. Sorry I wasn’t there for you to help defend it. Your intentions were probably pure and good.
Still, that’s the way it goes sometimes. Don’t assume the whole world is against you. I still believe that Rocketboom is NOT the place to fight this battle. Rest your case here, as you said you would.
Okay, as much as B-man irritates me with his tribal, fundamentalist, reactionary streak, he is correct, I believe, based upon anecdotal evidence I gathered on a recent trip to London, that indeed the Brits have a problem with a rising tide of anti-Semitism.
First. Full disclosure: I am not a Jew.
Second, based upon discussions with several leading writers in Britain ( 2 of them knighted), and, after a tour of the oldest synagogue in East London by a highly regarded historian, along with patrons of a well-known Jewish center in Washington D.C., I am sad to say, that I do believe this doc – there is a rising tide of anti-Semitism in the UK.
Why? I am not sure.
That said, to connect it to Gaza and Israel is a bit, well, very B-man. He tends to go global, with paranoid ideations. Israel is a very different, complex story. And, strangely enough, the only person in the British Cabinet that objected to the Balfour Declaration was a Jew. Why? He thought Israel would be just another Jewish ghetto.
Go figure.
So, ifg I may ask, what are you doing this research for? Is it personal interest, or a paying gig? What else are you finding out?
It is a paying gig. But what struck me was, since my employers were clearly an organized, well known Jewish center in Washington, I was required to make certain things happen on our tour of certain London events. These were American Jews interested in Jewish history and culture.
I asked several of my contacts in London, who would be joining us for discussions, etc., if they were in fact Jewish (my client wanted to know for obvious reasons). These were well known cultural leaders — artists, critics, etc. — in London. Three of them were clearly Jewish, and each one refused to publicly admit it. I thought that was odd. But as I dug deeper into the situation, I found out they were afraid of hurting their careers somehow, if their “Jewishness” was pushed before the public. I got the feeling it was better to play “British” than “Jewish.” Eventually they all told me, point blank — the Brits are really anti-Semitic. To this day. And I trust these people – they seem to see things rather clearly and are level-headed.
Why the anti-Semitism? Legacy, first and foremost, I suspect. Then the convergence of forces: the left’s perception that Israel is fascist; the hibernating right wing, empire-building forces historically in place; the new immigrants (not the majority of them, mind you, I fear making a blanket statement here) from Islamic cultures who are clearly anti-Semitic and fanning those flames.
This is a hard topic to have a rational and reasonable discussion about, obviously. But it is the elephant in the room in London, and I clearly felt it.
I do think Israel has committed terrible atrocities (Sabra and Shantila), as have the Palestinians. The endless violence in the Middle East is an equal opportunity creator of culpability. Blood is on everyone’s hands.
But again, that doesn’t deny anti-Semitism in Britain
Other than Sabra and Shatila (without the N), you can’t really mention many because while Israel has done some questionable stuff, it was never - other than 2 distinct cases that were a decade apart - citizens. Not that the army means it’s okay, but Israeli citizens don’t go killing themselves along with dozens of Palestinians. That’s THEIR thing. You can’t justify blowing up families in coffee shops. And Israel, by the way, pays the families of those Palestinians who were killed in the incidents. I know a lot of what happens there is due to frustration on the part of the Palestinians, but just because they’re the “weaker” ones doesn’t mean they’re right.
The rising anti-semitism IS directly related to the Israeli-Palestine conflict. In fact, the conflict has become the perfect excuse used by closet anti-semites who have come out of, well, the closet. They continue to blame Zionism, Israel atrocities, etc. etc. but deep down it’s Jews they hate. Period.
I had a Chinese friend who was a generation (or more) older than myself. He was one of the original Flying Tigers. As a pilot, he flew over 1000 missions over the Himalayan mountains rescuing family and friends and fighting in WWII. He was personal friends with many British politicians. Over a few scotches one day he looked me straight in the eye and said the Bristish were one of the most racist people on the planet. And this man jad travelled the world…he knew many of the top British politicians as he was honored by not only the British, but the Americans and the Canadians for his courage during WWII and other accomplishments I will not go into. But he said, they (referring to the British) smile at you and the moment you turn your back they stab you with a dagger.
Being a fan of the other Bristish Invasion, the music of the 60s and 70s, I was shocked to hear this from a well read, very educated and worldly man.
Being a visible minority, Chinese, he saw through the facade way back then… I am glad to have known him. He opened my eyes to history which he experienced first-hand.
I think it’s sad in 2007, we’ve learnt nothing. I posted “A Good Day” because deep down that’s how I believe we should all live our lives…but not being enlightened as yet…samsara does take over, and the ego fights for its life.
Om Shanti
I visited Israel last year and I loved the time I spent there. It was good to see the country first hand the country and not just what you hear in the news.
B-man hopefully you might find solace in this… I guessing most people dislike your tone more than your position.
This is my take. It’s a lack of peace in the Middle-East that is really really sad. And that’s the way most of us not directly involved probably think of it; it’s just sad. It’s neither fair, nor unfair; it’s just sad. Most of us probably don’t take sides, nor want to take a side. Hearing someone take a strong position can take us closer to the sadness and the fighting then we really want to go. We don’t want to hear about anger, hatred, past grievances, etc. If we’re going to be reminded of the hatred and fighting, we want to at least feel the hope of a better tomorrow.
At times we might feel like a parent walking in on sibling fighting and we say, “I don’t want to hear your yelling. I’m not interested in who started it. You both need to learn to share.”
jensen, what you’re describing is depressing as hell, but I’m heartened to see you describe it, because I think that’s the heart of the matter.
Jensen, you wrote: “Most of us probably don’t take sides, nor want to take a side.”
Well, I was recently received this email which seems to fit in with your above statement and with the recent dicussions on RB.
A man whose family was German aristocracy prior to World War Two owned a
number of large industries and estates.
When asked how many German people were true Nazis, the answer he gave can
guide our attitude toward fanaticism.
“Very few people were true Nazis “he said,” but many enjoyed the return of
German pride, and many more were too busy to care. I was one of those who
just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So the majority just sat back
and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had
lost control, and the end of the world had come. My family lost everything.
I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories.”
We are told again and again by “experts” and “talking heads” that Islam
is the religion of peace, and that the vast majority of Muslims just want
to live in peace.
Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely
irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and
meant to somehow diminish the specter of fanatics rampaging across the
globe in the name of Islam. The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at
this moment in history.
It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50
shooting wars worldwide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter
Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over
the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is the fanatics who bomb,
behead, murder, or honor kill. It is the fanatics who take over mosque
after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and
hanging of rape victims and homosexuals.
The hard quantifiable fact is that the “peaceful majority” the “silent
majority” is cowed and extraneous.
Communist Russia comprised Russians who just wanted to live in peace,
yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 20
million people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant.
China’s huge population, it was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists
managed to kill a staggering 70 million people.
The average Japanese individual prior to World War 2 was not a
warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across
South East Asia in an orgy of killing that included the systematic murder
of 12 million Chinese civilians; most killed by sword, shovel and bayonet.
And, who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery. Could it not
be said that the majority of Rwandans were “peace & loving”?
History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our
powers of reason we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points:
Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence.
Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they don’t speak up, because
like my friend from Germany, they will awake one day and find that the
fanatics own them, and the end of their world will have begun.
Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Serbs,
Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many
others have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it
was too late.
As for us who watch it all unfold; we must pay attention to the only
group that counts; the fanatics who threaten our way of life.
Lastly, at the risk of offending, anyone who doubts that the issue is
serious and just deletes this email without sending it on, can contribute
to the passiveness that allows the problems to expand. So,extend yourself a
bit and send this on and on and on!! Let us hope that thousands, world
wide, read this - think about it - and send it on.
(This will be my last entry on the subject)
I rest my case.
Extremely insightful and informative.
Great tourist guide!
I have a HUGEEE crush on Joanne, so beutiful.
