  1. Amazing what we call Art and the explanations of what someone who creates this art is trying to convey.

I can’t imagine the size of New York City compared to our little town of North Pole, Alaska. I suppose it’s the scope or size of this Art that impressed me the most.

  2. This should be a year round exhibit with changing images. But get that Donald Sutherland out of there, please!

  3. …oh yea, art that looks like advertising. I laughed when I saw the throng of people watching the images outside. I “heard” their comments in my brain. “when does season two come out?” “Dang it, I wish this was on Tivo so I could fastfoward it!” “Is this an ad for something?….Do you have trouble sleeping, are you grouchy and irritable when you wake up in the morning, millions of americans have sleep disorders, now you do too. Take Sleepprexa….may cause anal seepage.” I am sturck by the attention span of soceity these days. Last week I went SFMOMA just to watch the people looking at paintings(I know that’s an odd thing to do with your day, but it was worth it)…They’ll spend about 15 seconds in front of each artwork (if they like it, about two if they don’t). You can absorb a spilled glass of milk in 15 seconds with a thick wad of Bounty Brand Paper Towels, but a masterwork? I don’t think so. Sadly, somewhere down the line, we, as a soceity have been fooled into thinking that art is supposed to be easy?. I suppose it is only natural for art to embrace and capitalize on the power of cinema…Don’t get me wrong, I would like to go and experience Doug’s work on the big screen too, but I think I’ll have to wait until it comes out on iTV. Good day ya’ll.

  6. A friend said someone did a similar, yet smaller, version (only one image projected on a building) in Atlanta a few years back but they had to stop the project as people were looking at it as they drove down the highway and it caused several cars to crash.

  7. An excellent idea. You just don’t see stuff like this very often.

Some time ago I had the idea of showing pictures of wounded US soldiers from Iraq on the sides of buildings, but there was the problem of buying the projector, for $1500 or making my own projector for maybe $400.

  9. Loved it. I agree with a previous post though… Sutherland doesn’t really work in this for me. Identifying a face in the piece breaks it in a way by making me aware of the artifice. You can’t feel like you are peeking into someone’s life if you know it is an actor. Although I guess I’m making an assumption about Aitken’s intent.

    Nice interview J.

  11. Great questions Joanne, and I must say I appreciate the ‘rhythm’ of today’s video. The soundtrack and brevity really provided us with just enough information.

  12. Solid RB piece. The artwork looked interesting too, though I agree with B-man and and Jim S. about the jarring impact of Donald Sutherland’s presence.

  15. Hmmmm … a little late - but hey - it’s all non linear right ?
Unless you look at that art work - hehe
    It’s amazing how poorly Art
    is doing these days.
    Donald Sutherland - bank
    commercials to fine art -
sorry - no kudos to be had
    there.
    Americans Sleep Walking -
    a theme that could have
    sought to wake up the
    political mainstream -
    not the movie goer.
