  1. Love the fact that people are staring at the iphone like it’s the Holy Grail.

  3. Not one of the best posts I’ve seen here but I appreciate the time that was put into it. Very eerie how the iphone drew such awed looks. I did dig that part.

  4. Ha ha wow that was interesting.

This whole blogosphere iPhone fetish is getting a little out of hand. Speaking of hands, wow I wish I had hands like that hand model holding the iPhone.

    C.E.S Vs MacWorld.

C.E.S = Tacky tech. Bill Gates. Microsoft. Big, rubbish naff crap about ‘the future of the home’ which they’ve been saying for the past 10 years, never coming to the fruition.

    Macworld = The Jesus Phone.

    Macworld Won.

  10. CES was made to look like a flea market and MacWorld was made to look like some type of happenning of the future (the music made me wonder if HAL from “2001″ would show up).

  14. OK, so apparently, at CES there were lots of products, and at MacWorld, only one. And that was locked up in a tacky plexiglass cylinder so you couldn’t touch it. I thought I read somewhere there was a second product.

Oh well, shows to go ya how easily folks are suckered in by the hype.

  16. Pretty lame today IMHO. Just a bunch of slow-mo video to make it seem all super dramatic. No informative info on the shows or what was there etc. Maybe Tomorrow will be better. :)

    True ‘dat.

I mean really, RB. What exactly was the point of today’s episode?

New vs. old? Slick vs. mundane? Cult of Apple vs. well, everything else? Yawn.

CES, by its very charter, should be expected to have a soup-to-nuts product array on display. Sure, car antennas may not be sexy, but people still buy ‘em.

Macworld, by its very charter, is supposed to be about all things Mac. And yet all they seem to have going for them is _one_ new product. Sure, it’s a very nice looking phone, but it’s still a phone. Ooh. Yay.

And in the apeshit over iPhone, everybody seems not to notice Apple’s little corporate name change. I mean for goodness sakes, don’t you think maybe there’s some news in that? What does that mean for the future of iMac? Of OS-X? Of Mac developers (of whom some are my friends)?

Or, maybe, RB could cover Apple’s little legal boo-boo over stealing the name “iPhone” from Cisco. Or Apple’s FTC woes over options back-dating (for which, I gather, someone could well end up going to jail.

Ah, screw all that; no news there. Cool phone! Shiny, shiny!

  20. If you truly understand the reason behind CES, it is for the buyers from companies like Best Buy and all the mom and pop regionals to look at new lines and see what they want to purchase for the year. That is why you have the crap products their also. It wasn’t amazing to see the dual 108 inch plasmas? I find that hard to believe.

MacWorld is about announcing new products to the world and not to buyers. Apple is one manufacturer of those products.

It’s funny that you didn’t have a picture of the LG phone in your montage. Or is that because it would have taken away the effect of poor helpless souls looking at the apple phone(Cisco owns iPhone) Serves apple right being sued after sending out letters to people with pod in their web domain.

  21. I like the fact that Rocketboom is willing to try out new presentation styles, and isn’t scared to put across its own opinion now and then. Personally, I think it’s far more unique and interesting than most other videoblogs..

  22. I’ve been noticing more, recently, that Apple-ettes seem to have “transcended” the mortal lives of us Earthings and entered a holistic state of Jobs-envy-itis. In the beginning, the Apple bothered me because it was expensive, inflexible and really, a mouse with 1 button?? I’ve come to realize, however, it isn’t appreciated for its simplicity (a rock is simple, I suppose), but it seems for its $nob appeal. The mere mortals buy phones and mp3 players, only the rich would buy deficient iPods at 4 times the price or a phone that will cost a zillion times more because it is an Apple product.

Et tu Rocketboom? I knew you liked ‘em, but to the exclusion of sanity and the rest of humanity? Isn’t that like a jehad approach or something??

  28. I liked the background music Drew. Thought provactive, tending to introduce a future scene of intrigue. And as after thought to the replays of yesterday’s Rocketboom episode I kept on watching over and over again, Ian I must say that was an impressive piece of ice sculpture. Seriously. I’m not just saying that just to say it.Rocketboom is like a box of jigsaw puzzle pieces scattered on the table, and I imagine a good script will bring out the best, placing all the artistic talents of its members to focus on and then to create a masterpiece of video presentation. A really good script to place all the artistic pieces of the puzzle together and then to present to the world what Hollywood and New York media outlets cannot show.Rocketboom: the talent is there already, they only need a good script to catapult them to a world stage, and then … how much did Google pay for that practically no capital assets of a company called YouTube? Hmm …? I’m thinking of a really good, and contemporary script to bring out the best of everyone. A sitcom like Peyton Place, …? no, actually I cannot think of a past television show that could be compared to this script I still only have in concept thought.I’ll be back.

I haven’t answered the phone since 1986. I hate phones and will never get the “ApplePhone.” But I couldn’t be more excited at the orchestration of Apple’s new “revolution.”

    Not impressed? Don’t get it?

  35. One of the lamest RocketBoom I’ve seen so far. Come on people, it’s a stupid phone, not the second coming of Christ! Just goes to show how simple minded some people are… Hypocritical if you ask me. Most Mac fan-boys (and girls) want you to believe they are open minded, and free thinkers with a broad philosophy on life. But when it comes to Apple, they become close minded drones that hang on every word Mr. Jobs says or every product Apple offers like subservient cattle. It’s actually quit sickening sometimes.

Like the Pope said, “Stop worshipping your technology”.

  41. I liked the music - reminded me of early Lucas films. And it a way - it did show the adoration of mac people for their things - and it made all the rest of the world look very pathetic. But at the same time, you have to wonder why? Why are we who use regular stuff (yes, I’ll admit that I build my own computers) made to feel like we’re less than the elite who can afford more expensive toys? My first computer was a Zenith CPM machine - followed by apple 2 plus, but when the Mac came out, I couldn’t afford it, so I started looking around for what I could afford. Along the way, I discovered all kinds of software, add-on’s, amazing graphics cards, etc etc that worked amazingly. And they were way less money. But every time I tell people that I use Vegas or SAW, I’m looked at like I couldn’t possibly do anything good without a Mac. So of course, it’s hard to think about going over from one bunch of corporations to support another corporation that -guess what - cooks their books like every other capitalist since Andrew Carnegie.

  42. skips past all the +/- i apple stuff.

the point I got - consumer electronics are drivel - its consumerism to desire this junk that is really just mundane. (even the Iphone) while we are bedazzled by it now is just going to be an obsolete old piece of consumer electronic junk eventually.

all that said - I still want the new flashy stuff too.
