Wait a minute… how did you do that!? :-)
wohs tnellecxe
That was sheer genius!!!
Would be thrilling if one could choose the direction of time. Speaking of time, why does Rocketboom’s ‘past’ button point to the left? How did that timeline look again?
Enjoy your weekend!
A
Well, it actually points to the right, but never mind :-) It’s friday.
I love it. Like someone said, great way to start this Friday.
You guys think Joanne walks backwards well, but did you see that squirrel JUMP backwards on the bench???
What about all those people riding the escalator backwards? NY is a weird place on casual Fridays.
Thanks Time,
Reading Drew’s explanation, made me think that he could also have placed the ‘past’ button to the left with an arrow that points to the right.
I understand that this has been obviously discussed many times, but your casual friday piece is provoking further elaborations on the subject of timeline directions :-)
Nice work on Joanne’s part to do all that backwards walking without looking over her shoulder (on STAIRS even!)
The escalater shot was pretty cool.
Now for the next level … IIRC, Weird Al Yankovic’s “Amish Paradise” video has a segment of him walking *and* lip-syncing backwards.
Joanne, awesome as usual. It reminded me of the debate in yesterday’s show comments where some were saying they felt you and the show were going in the wrong direction.
My advise is don’t let the direction of the world effect you too much, just keep doing what you do best and believe you are headed in the direction.
Which you are.
A Big Fan!
TJ
Very cool…watch out for the guy checking you out in the supermarket though!
Salut,
just brilliant, with a bit of poetry.
An additional confirmation that Joanne is really a special Woman.
Unique ?
From France with Love,
SB.
For more backwards fun, check out series 3 episode 1 (”Backwards”) of Red Dwarf, a BBC science fiction sitcom available on DVD. No, it’s not nearly as cute and artsy as today’s Rocketboom.
Once a vivacious, intelligent, eloquent young lady
with optimistic hopes and dreams woke up one day
to a changed world that no longer moved to the
normal rhythms of everyday life… her forlorn
expression is understandable, as she must now spend
the rest of her days… in The Twilight Zone.
/or maybe Joanne finally purchased that backwards clock

;)
THAT was very awesome.
Thanks.
beautiful…made me cry
Be still my beating heart.
Drew comments about the direction of the arrows, saying the “future” and “past” tags present a problem…. why not use “older” and “newer” instead?
This implies a RELATIVE relation to the current video, instead of an ABSOLUTE one.
(Yes, I know future/past are also relative, but they are so in relation to the current point in time. They are absolute in relation to the video being displayed).
very beautiful joanne.
Nice indeed.
rob
Wow, I can barely jump rope forwards.
I really enjoyed that.
Hello RB,
Your vlog is exactly how I’m filling today.
Love it!
Regards,
Denis
…great example of mass cooperation!

LOVED it! thanks! - d
?taht od ehs did woH
Beautiful. Just the sort of thing that makes one fall in love. I’m in complete agreement with TJ. “Keep doing what you do best and believe you are headed in the direction.” I love every moment of Rocketboom, the joco era, that is.
I assume that a lot of work goes into you guys keeping things fresh and ..uh.. un-real. Thanks for stimulating my brain again with another oddball point of view!
Very nice!
Oh my god!!! That blew my mind! How did you guys do that??? I really really hated it!! Get it? That means I really loved it. Cause it’s backwards day!! Yay! I noticed some other commenters writing backwards and I thought I’d try my hand at a funny comment for backwards day. Speaking of commenters, I hope a few of the regular commenters will start sending long comments back and forth to each other, with little links and raps and poems. I just love that. I just love to sit back and think about what those commenters actually do. In life. You know? Cause some of them drop four or five multi-paragraphed comments per episode. Are they professional commenters? Is commenter even a word? Who knows?! I DON’T want to know what it’s like to be those commenters. Weeeeeeee! That means I DO want to know what it’s like to be them! BACKWARDS DAY! Thanks, Rocketbooms! You’re the best!
So elegant and innocent. Joanne looks full of wonder. I watched three times, teared up on the third time. This is art.
That was really really great. I never commented before, but had to today. That made my day. Wow.
Wow, thanks for that.
Here are some more interesting videos:
http://home.comcast.net/~frigidarium/videos.html
Wow. Just wow. I’m not joking - I finished watching and realised I’d watched this whole skit with my jaw dropped.
Looks just as impressive if you grab the scroll button and wind it backwards. And then I realised my jap had dropped again. How on earth can you skip backwards?!?!
This one is an absolute classic make no mistake.
Kudos, RB, kudos.
That was awesome :-)
What was really cool was in the grocery store when Joanne reached for the box before she looked at it. Is that ESP or something?
Write this backwards:
“I’m a lasagna hog. Go hang a salami!”
That is, unless you have
Aibohphobia…
thanks for that. Great free music as well - Jamendo never ceases to amaze me. I think I’ll go download that entire album now, starting with the last song first.
God I LOVE Casual Fridays!
One of the most perfect simple RB CF EVER!
What a perfect way to end the work week.
Beaufitul video today. I really like the music.
Thank you so much. I was just feeling frantic about not getting enough done on a Friday, and this really calmed me down. Sheer poetry.
cheers,
connie
OMG this is soo cool !!! Love the song :) …
Gotta to agree with eveyone else, mostly. Even if it has been done before, todays episode was very good. What comes first, the music or the ideo of the visual ? Really enjoyed it. THANX !
This episode truly was a “work of art”. I suggest you exhibit and sell it as an art video at some posh NYC gallery and demand big bucks… Then you can share your earnings with us, your RB friends, so Kam won’t feel bad about the Cube.
(hint, hint, hint)
Two Things: Why did this make me think of “Fruit of the Loom” underwear?? Oh, yeah, the commercial - I love that one. And I’m shocked that no one yet mentioned that you can play Quicktime backwards with Control-backarrow. The music is still cool, even backwards. Nice job, Drew and Joanne!

This is pretty funny!!
Very cute! Impressive what such a simple effect can do. Reminds me of this:

They had the actors move and speak (phonetically) backwards, then reversed the film!
I made like Superman and spun the world around so that now only Joanne is moving backwards.

Wow, that was simply amazing. It must’ve been hard trying to move backwards in the grocery store!
I loved the music as well. I am going to go check that stuff out right now!!

Here’s another unique backwards film.
From the great film community of Bobsta, this is one of my favorites.

What a treat to see at the end of a lousy week. That was delightful…just sweet and innocent. And thank you, it gives me a great idea for a media lesson plan for my elementary class students. They’d love to do this at school. Joanne et al, you’re the best.
WOW! Amazing! There were a couple of places there where you could of gotten hurt Really bad. I’m Glad your not dead.
Fantastic!
That thurs podcast was wretched, stop with the weird-o crap and get back to quality work, k?
Finally someone has captured my view of everyday life.
Thank You RB for sharing.
Great show… loved it…
and the music was perfect..! I’m off to Jamendo..
Loved it!! Can’t watch just once…
Reminds me of a short movie I recently saw: ‘Evol’ by Chris Vincze…. ‘Love in a backwards world’…
Beautifly done!
What, no reverse extreme speed drummer(s) ?

Absolutely brilliant! Almost Dali-esque in its simplicity. The music is a perfect accompaniment to an enchanting few minutes escape from reality…
Bravo Joanne!
Nice work. Great music. Escalator shot was my favorite.
The last two Fridays have been wonderful shows.
Wow, beautifully done! One of the best things I’ve seen on RB.
beautifully filmed!
Wonderful! Wonderful! I loved it. Keep up the good work.
Nice work in the field!
Kam, age 1, does a sensational job reverse slow drumming in the accompanying soundtrack. The sun is provided courtesy of Bill Gates who now owns just about everything in our galaxy, except for the iPhone which he is busily reverse engineering as I post this.

Fabulous! Howdja do that??
The content and how it was done and the music, Just the best.
that dude was checking you out Joanne..hehe
phew nice one. i can’t believe that you dared to cross on the north west traffic corner in front of the petco at union square. that is not a very forgiving stretch of crosswalk for pedestrians to navigate when they are tuned out on ipods and cell phones…and yet you made it alive…walking backwards!
Gave up on Rocketboom. Originality gone. Just checked back and was rewarded.
Please, make daily efforts like this - It will pay.
Maravilloso!!! :)
You make me smile.
So simple, and yet so refreshing.
I was feeling low today, and now I feel a lot happier having just viewed your beautiful video - please continue to swim upstream against the tide of daily mediocracy.
Always be curious :-)
I would like to figure out how you did that movie. Next time try out EVERYbody walking sideways, if you dare.
Great episode. I loved it.
any show that makes you smile mid-show is great .. .
great job .. .

OK, This is easily one of my favorite posts ever. So surreal and ……moving. Joanne, when you first came to the Boom,…I didn’t want to like you…I was a fan of Amanda…but I must admit it…..I love to watch you…keep up the great work!
Regards,
SONRAY
Which was harder, walking backwards or figuring out how to make your software invert video? :)
The best show ever, and in the future!
Joanne, ich will ein Kind von Dir.
(ask Martin Schmitt what it means)
So Sweet. Inspiring.
Thanks RocketBoom.
That was wicked! Your well good at skipping backwards Joanne!
