The reason Keith Moon is able to play so fast is cuz he’s wearin cat make-up! The Original Catman Peter Criss figured this secret out alone time ago way back in the 70s when he played with the best band ever KISS!

My friends this is no coincidence that you are mentioning Keith as one the world’s fastest drummer on the exact same day Anna Smith dies. They were very much similar.

I knew KM. Unfortunately never met ANS. Watching Keith play from the side of the stage over many nights was one of life’s real treats. He totally enjoyed being himself. And about those nails JO-BO You’re going to need one of those belt sanders to clean them off. They are just dripping.

Love the drummer thing and I think if Bonham had not drank/drugged himself into death he would have been the fastest.
The current fastest drummer is, I believe, Mike Mangini, even though in the video clip, they showed Johnny Rabb, who held the record several years ago.
It’s just hearsay, but from what I’ve been told, Buddy Rich could play single strokes at about 250bpm, or 1,000 singles per minute (which is faster than my Drum Corps friends can play, though admittedly they weren’t in top corps like Cavaliers or Blue Devils). Mike Mangini’s record is over 1,200 singles per minute, or >300bpm. On the practical side, most types of music would rarely require one to play faster than ~200bpm, although most good drummers can play faster. If you have the technical facility to play beyond what is required, what is required becomes that much easier.
And just because they enter a competition to see who can play faster, doesn’t mean they aren’t good musicians as well. IIRC Terry Bozzio (who played with Zappa, et al.) said he was an admirer of Mike Mangini, and Johnny Rabb is considered one of the best Jungle/D&B drummers around. As long as they are also making music, who cares how they choose to have a little fun on the side? Don’t be so pretentious, leron.
