I keeping sniffing my computer screen, but I can’t seem to… wait a minute… Joanne, your hair… is that Herbal Essence Rainforest?

Or did I just catch a whiff of your laptop?

  2. Tuvalu, the first country to disappear due to climate change and associated sea level rise, is a good example of climate change hitting the poorest. Little story on it @

That pout toward the end looked so much like Chloe from 24! I bet Joanne could do a great Chloe impersonation. Cool.

  5. Joanne,
Those compact fluorescent bulb for the most part contain mercury, which is very toxic and in fact it attacks the brain. We all know that most people (sheeple?) will never dispose of their bulbs properly, so these Hg bulbs are going to result in a huge amount of pollution.

Much better would be LED bulb.

  6. Hey folks, fun show today.
I think the fishing method is called Grappling, not Grabbing (though maybe it’s both). The audio on the song is a little hard to decipher, but I have read several articles over the years that refer to it as grappling. Also known as Hand Fishing for the literal-minded. Noodling is a new one to me. Greatest sport I have no intention of trying.

  7. You are right in saying that ositivity is an attitude not a result. One must have to make the choice to be positive no matter what. The world has always been horrid and impending doom has always been there to depress. The goal of life is to NOT get depressed…to get a little of that Rocky spirit in you (thus why those films are important) and take on the day!

  8. Hey guys.

FYI - DC is not listed in your “state” drop down on the audience survey. Just wanted to point it out. My partents live in MD, so that’s what I filled in.

Thanks. Love the Boom! Keep it up.

  9. Don’t give up on environmetal change yet. Change people’s habits one person at time. Sure, maybe we are just slowing down the inevitable. Its sad to say but some day everyone will have no choice but to change. Being “eco-friendly” is starting to become trendy. maybe there is hope in that?

Please keep reporting on this. thanks.
    Take care.

  10. Bonsoir,

climate : when there is disorder, the harmony is essential.

Since always, the composers adored the nature, and depicted it in their music with more or less of accurateness.

Beethoven summarized it in a famous sentence while writing that it was “more about expressing some feelings that to make the painting with notes”.

In other words, it was the spontaneous activity of the mind and the imagination that interested him. The art consisted not to reproduce a landscape, but to describe the correspondences between this landscape and the conscious mind. It is the fusion perfected of the classic shape and the romantic feeling.

“I like a tree more that a man”

    Beethoven.

Let’s have a genius’s aspiration for this nature that disturbs us so much.

Thanks for bringing back the old tune at the end - I was about to start a petition, seriously. My cure for the blues? Whistle a few bars of Zoom a Little Zoom. Works like a charm…

Wow. DC gets no respect in Congress *or* in our web survey! ;-)

Just added District of Columbia to the drop down menu on our survey.

Also: we added ‘Radio’ to the list of possible news sources. No clue as to how we missed that one.

Thanks for the heads up, Rick and Austin!

  17. Joanne, I hope you will rest a little easier at night knowing that you have a couple of converts over in the bay area. Your aside about the bags again reminded me that as promised in my post on the paper/plastic episode, me and mine have picked up some reusable bags. We got ours at Real Foods… they scrunch up into a built-in pouch, so not only are they reusable but they’re very convenient too! Thank you again for the tip and hopefully they’ll last long enough that I won’t have duct tape all over them for a good while yet. ;)

  22. Those polar bears may make a convenient photo op, but the inconvenient truth is that this is a photo from 3 years ago. And was originally taken to be cute. They didn’t mention that he mother glacer was just out of camera range and the bears could easily swim back. And they did.

  25. So when do we get a “putting stuff on your catfish” item? (Putting a cat on one of those bigger-than-a-cat catfish would be most impressive… especially to the cat.)
