It would be more satisfying if I could drill though GW\’s face.. but then again, I wouldn\’t want him on a coin!
Hate to disappoint ya, nolalou, but this from usmint.gov:
\”The United States is honoring our Nation’s presidents by issuing $1 circulating coins featuring their images in the order that they served, beginning with Presidents Washington, Adams, Jefferson and Madison in 2007. The United States Mint will mint and issue four Presidential $1 Coins per year, and each will have a reverse design featuring a striking rendition of the Statue of Liberty. These coins will feature larger, more dramatic artwork, as well as edge-incused inscriptions of the year of minting or issuance, \”E Pluribus Unum,\” \”In God We Trust\” and the mint mark. Although the size, weight and metal composition of the new Presidential $1 Coin will be identical to that of the Sacagawea Golden Dollar, there are several unique features that make this coin distinctive.\”
So, we can expect to see GWB\’s mug on a coin \’round about 2019, if I do my math correctly…
hmm today show was not as cool as i was hoping but i think it was a really neat idea to make a ring out of a coin. but it used to many tool that… i dont have
What struck me about this project was the waste involved. What happened to all that silver from the center of the coin? Looked to me to be at least 50% loss, if not more.
Besides, the coins themselves would make a better investment if squirreled away in a sock drawer for another 20 years or so… you wouldn’t be able to reasonably expect that ring to be worth more than $1 or 2. Guess this just makes all the surviving coins worth that much more.
When do we get a field report about putting pennies on railroad tracks?
Rings out of money, you can make one of these

here & you don\’t need tools!
(that hand model needs a manicure!)
Where is the rocket camera (a story from a few months ago)?
stop the iphone mania !!!!
Good report Arena!
I don\’t know…seems like I am free to buy other phones. If I don\’t want to be limited to AT&T, I just need to buy another phone. Oh, wait, sounds like everybody in that video is saying that the iphone is so superior to everything else, that we don\’t really have a choice if we want the best phone on the market. But we CAN choose. We are not limited to just the iphone.
Okay, I\’ll stop now. I think I am rambling a little.
While I am rambling, what does all this have to do with making a ring out of a coin?
WEAK!
Time to bring back Amanda!
Please!!!!
Hey, cool ring episode today; perhaps a way for someone with low cash flow (and perhaps a big beer drinking debt) to \’make\’ his/her own engagement ring, (a very strong statement). What do YOU think, Mr. Fly-stuck-in-the-butter?
Or perhaps that fashionable ring fashioned, forged and fabricated from fifty cents could better be used as a nose ring for the raging bull that is in the pen of the past out back kicking and snorting and ravaging the mud from its own deep hoof-prints planted throughout the wild, wild west…and led (with a rope in its nose by a farm girl) in a more tamer manner down the road of newly independent and unique creativeness. (Nothing is more appealing in a human being than self-acceptance.) Nothing is more appalling than someone\’s comment which needlessly kicks muds into one\’s eyes. Isn\’t New York City half-way between the wickedly wild wild West, and the sophisticated and refined thoroughfares of Europe?
I work (hence a way to increase my cash flow) at a job that generally takes me away overnight Mondays, all day Tuesdays, and back sometime on Wed afternoons, when I duly catch up on my missed RocketBoom episodes. I\’m still relatively new to RocketBoom: only discovering it sometime this May past. Hence, I can\’t say what time it really is, nor where we are now, nor list all the animals not included on the World\’s worst weirdo list. I do know that this comment section gives \’working class heros\’ like me, and you: Sir ButterFly net, as well as other mammals like B-man, Kam, C-C, Old Man, Leron, and et cetera a place to be heard, regardless of how mediocre (in my case) or remarkable (in most other cases) our remarks are. And I do love where we are right this minute with RocketBoom. Where do we go from here? How about a traveling rodeo show where we can spectate others being taken on wild rides in a dirty arena with the smell of fresh, steaming bullshit permeating the air! Ah, take me back to Tulsa, Tammy! (Please…don\’t!!!)
This one\’s for you:
Also, from the desk of Mike Dixon:
The Presidential Dollar coin program will only make coins for former presidents who have been dead two years at the time of their coinage.
This means that if Carter lives until 2014 (two years before his coin is scheduled,) then the program will skip him and go to Reagan. If Carter has passed on by then, then his coin and Reagan\’s will happen, and it falls on Bush Sr. to be alive or dead to determine if the program goes into 2017 with Bush Sr.\’s coin. Then, Clinton would need to be dead for him to get a coin, and both Clinton and Bush Jr. would need to be dead for Gee Dub to get his coin.
If the person elected in 2008 serves two full terms, then even if they die the day the leave office, they won\’t get a coin, because they won\’t have been dead for two years, since they will leave office in January 2017, and their coin would be scheduled for 2018.
The program ends when the last eligible president has had their coin. So if Bush Sr. dies in 2016, (too late to get his own coin,) then the program will end with Reagan. Even when someone *would* have become eligible, if the program has already ended, it won\’t be started up again.
Just based on life spans, I expect Bush Sr. will be the last coin. (In order for either him or Carter to avoid getting their own coins, they would both have to live longer than any other former president.) It\’s not much of a stretch to imagine Clinton and Bush Jr. living until 2016, but I can\’t really see Carter and Bush Sr. lasting that long.
(Sorry, I tried to post this as a reply to CiderJack, but it won\’t let me for some reason.)
On another note, please PLEASE don\’t do this with 1964 Kennedy Half Dollars. Those are seriously collectible. 1964 or earlier dollars and quarters are fine, as are pre-1964 Franklin half dollars.
But as a coin collector, it pains me to see the one year that 90% Silver Kennedy\’s were made destroyed.
