  2. “To much energy for impeachment” ??? I say we use everything we’ve got energy-wise. Every day Bush & Co. are holding office in the United States of America they are exploiting our nations laws and constitutional integrity. The office of the president of the United States should be occupied by a great mind with true leadership skills in order to guide our country and its people towards the most progressive ideals, which will ensure that we are evolving in the direction of a humanitarian society.
This administration has violated the public trust at every level and continues its deception of the American people to this very hour.

All energy that is not being used to imprison these criminals is indeed wasted energy!

At this point, someone with a mediocre mind and a shred of integrity would be a huge improvement.

That’s all well & good but right now I’m battening down the hatches, Flossie’s about to kick some Hawaiian ass! as if the 5.3 earthquake we had last night wasn’t enough. Oh well, the price one pays to live in paradise. Now, where’s my surfboard…..

Do the jaguar and camel surf too?! Hang ten dude and get inside before the big stuff hits. Don\’t worry about that shake last night; it wasn\’t a quake, just a secret nuclear test.

  4. So tell me Rocketboom, since Bush isn’t gonna be impeached then all we have is the next election. Who should we vote for. Neither party represents me.

  6. Good question - who should we vote for? I can’t help but wonder if the kind of person I would like to see run for office is exactly the kind of person who just would never run for office. That’s rather defeatist of me. But given the ego/power/money/corruption part of the position these days, surely the most decent humans among us wouldn’t touch the job with a barge pole!

    1. Joanne, it’s been that way for quite some time now, not only in the US, but in most democracatic countries around the world. So it’s no wonder only 30% of Americans vote in the Presidential Election. Judging by the political trends I can only assume other countries will follow suit.

No sane man or woman would ever run for President.

And those that do make a go of it don’t have the support of the old boys network to funnels the $millions needed. The latter requirement is quite the hypocracy for a so-called democracy. I vote 3 Stooges. Nyuk Nyuk ‘n Nyuk for President, Vice President and Just in case…

    3. As usual, Douglas Adams has the best insight on this, which you also recognized:

“It is a well known fact, that those people who most want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.” - The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

  7. Shocker! Dick Cheney in eloquent, insightful analysis of middle east power politics. So he isn’t an idiot. Who knew?! The other implication that politicians are all hypocrites is of course no surprise to anyone.

Which does rather bring us round to Joanne’s point which is that modern politicians are everything we hate about people. So is the idea of public service dead? And if it is, whose fault is it? Theirs or ours for allowing it?

“…ours for allowing it?” Power to the people. The people have the final say. Or do they?

First of all the people would have to come together collectively to say whatever it is they don’t like; bitchin’ to a neighbor just ain’t gonna do it. But when was the last time a good rally for a cause had any affect? Nowadays as soon as there is a slight commotion the people get slammed down by THE MAN for disturbing the peace or for fear of it being a terrorist attack. Nowadays THE MAN quietly passes a law that says we lose the right to protest or vote against an issue thereby removing our power to speak out. So how do we overturn that? Do we disobey? Because if we do we end up breaking the law and are no further ahead. Do we blog about it? Honestly, what’s that going to do? Rebuilding public service step by step is far too big of a task. We are at a point where it almost makes more sense to build a whole new system from scratch in the shadows and then roll it out when ready. But really, what can else we do?

It is our fault for allowing it but we never had the power to disallow it.

      1. It\’s a fair point. But the conventional analysis of power is that it does exist in the abstract. It is not a thing that can exist in a vacuum.

Power is exercised because the nexus of social, economic and political relations provides those who wield it with the opportunity to do so and profit. Who is THE MAN? Well, at the broadest level he is us.

So why do we put up with it? Well, there\’s the rub. Fear, resignation, simply don\’t know better. Lots of reasons. Step 1 though: retake the agenda. And in that sense, yes actually I do consider blogging to be of some utility. (until they can effectively censor the net anyways)

  10. Replace initial line in video with the following:

\”Something terrible happens when anyone runs for office…\”

There is no doubt that \”they\” are the most qualified for the job!

Now you’re talking. This is the type of work you should’ve done when you were in Israel. Fast, dense, complex, and ironic with a genuine punch. It has weight, but sustains the Rocketboom voice. Good job.

OMIGOD this Cheney video would have made a HUGE difference had it come out before the invasion! Who kept it secret all these years (FOX, NPR, ABC, CBS, NBC, NYT, ETC)?? Ugh! So many dead, maimed, orphaned, and this could have saved them all. Who sat on this??

I agree we’re in a fine mess, but tell me Joanne, what’s the SOLUTION? Its been very easy for everyone (politicians, celebrities, journalists, civilians) to wag their finger, but no one has stepped forward with a legitimate plan to solve the dilemma.

I personally don’t have the answer, but then again I’m not up there with a smug “I told you so” smirk on my face…
