    I’m glad you didn’t respond to every answer with a screechy, “Yeah?”

    But I wasn’t a fan of the original, and this didn’t do much for me either.

    Though it does get me wondering: Were I to take a walk in Manhattan with a mike and a camera, what question would I ask random people on the street?

    What gets you through the day?

    What’s the best thing about your life?

    Firefox or IE? (oh wait, that’s been done.)

    Who’s your hero?

    What are you looking forward to?

    If you could take back one thing you’ve done, what would it be?

    Who would you most like to beat with a red baseball bat?

    Stuff like that.

    A simply profound question to make most folks stand on their cerebral tiptoes. I found the last gentleman you posed the question to; had reflected his answer visually best of all by his blatant accouterments, especially his sporting equipment. Roaming around Manhattan with a baseball bat is a bizarre statement indeed. More realistically, I expect he was making his way towards Yankee stadium to try out for the majors. In the end I surmised that this gentleman most of all represented, if only visually, the very essence of that sector of Americas population who spend their days romancing a deep and abiding love affair with the politics of fear!
    Joanne, it might be a good idea to sport at the very least a badminton racket or a Ping-Pong paddle while conducting interviews on the gritty streets of the Big Apple!

    I still like the question. Those who think it’s a silly question should try answering it.

    I worry about people who say ‘nothing’. People who say ‘myself’ are absolutely right but not really asking what that is. Joanne, you were brilliant to keep pressing that guy - “And you are?”, “And…”, “What birth sign are you?” - I bet that Aquarius John could go on if he tried. Superb rapport as usual.

    Truth is we can identify ourselves in countless ways and the sooner we realise that, the sooner we realise that the line between ‘us and them’ dissects a million ways depending on whose particular agenda is being thrust on us.

      It is a basic sociological idea that we “represent” our social connections in the world. It is a basic Buddhist notion that we represent all that is and nothing: this moment. Also ignored seems to be that “represent” is a basic word in the rap world meaning “who is your crew?” or, more clearly, “who are your people?”. It definitely would not be answered by myself unless you had no connections. Sociologically, who you represent? should be answered by your place in the social world. Also, rap-wise. A good universal, spiritual, zen-like answer would be “the trees”, “you”, or “the sky is blue”. By the way, what’s up with “I’m not a hippy”? That group was a fine group to “represent”!

        Don\’t get me wrong about hippies. I just don\’t think I\’d have what it takes although I can get on board with the anti-war and music aspects. It\’s hard to be a hippy, err… man.

        Also, I find it hard to say that I represent any group of people. Who am I to say that I represent many others? Unless I was nominated/elected as their representative I guess… hmmmm. Till then I presume to speak for no one and endeavour to speak up for myself. Which is coincidentally what my mum always told me… Dammit, she was right. That can ruin a guy\’s day.

    I’m not entitled or appointed to act or speak for (someone), especially in an official capacity.
    I don’t symbolize anything
    I don’t stand for anything
    I don’t personify anything
    I don’t epitomize anything
    I don’t typify anything
    I don’t embody anything
    (man I’m pathetic)
    What I do like are lerons questions:
    What gets me through the day - coffee
    What’s the best thing about my life - I’m aware of it
    Who’s my hero - Siddhartha
    What am I looking forward to - Christmas

    Another really fine v-log. It\’s so good when you go out into Central Park (or anywhere in the City) and ask people questions. You celebrate people, NYC, and the life out there. For us who do not live in the city but love it, it is a treat.
