Felt the Thailand story could have done with some context - the big issue is that the King is equivalent to a demi-god to Thais (so definitely not like Bush and Blair). More to the point, he really is a very good and much-loved king (again not really like Bush and Blair). I’ve seen the (original) video clip and really it has no real merit I can see, no real insight into the King at all - freedom of speech (and yes crap) but what if it’s only apparent point is to provoke a nation? Deferring to Lear again - “You strike my people; and your disorder’d rabble make servants of their betters”.
Thailand should accept Youtube’s offer to be able to self-censor because at the very least the content is illegal in Thailand (you cannot insult the king) but let’s not start defending the artistic merits of an otherwise pointless piece of fluff which is snowballing into plenty of other copycats. Certainly ‘Paddidda’ who posted the clip, took it down pretty quickly and hasn’t tried to justify it with any lofty ambition in mind.
