  2. Wow, what a great message. This is the sort of thing that everyday people should hear and prevent. This is a good use of an episode getting out this message to everyone.

    Keep up the good work.

  4. A very well done episode.
Doctors Without Borders needs more publicity like this.
    Keep up the good work
Oh, and don’t forget to keep doing the humor pieces too.

  5. things like doctors without borders should have more publicity.. . not more.. . they should have publicity, instead of the garbage we are bombarded with by the mass media.. .

  8. Must be frustrating putting in so much effort to help a group of people who do so little to help themselves.

  12. Tell it to Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.
Tell it to Bill Clinton and his cigar toting Clinton Initative.
Tell it to the actors who demand $20 million / film
Tell it to the baseball players who get $75 million dollar contracts for 2 years
Tell it to the basket ball players who get $25 million just for doing a Nike commercial

WE live in entertainment escapist world.
    Got your Xbox handy?
More computer “kill games” are sold today than music CDs.

Stories like this one piss me off.
There is so much wealth in the 1st world.
None of those people should have to suffer.

Did you know 27,000 babies die everyday of malnutrition? EVERY FUCKING DAY.
    THINK ABOUT THAT ONE!

And those land mines, who do you think made billions if not trillions of dollars manufacturing them.

Sorry, we live in a fucked up world. I don’t need to be reminded.
This report does nothing as I’ve seen 100s of others just like it.

    (sorry for the expletives!)

I could rant on for days, but what’s the use.
Have a nice lunch and don’t forget to Super Size it everyone.

A- choo-choo very important that the billionaires of the world have another distraction to titilate their senses while ignoring the refugees, starvation, disease and locusts around the world.

You’d think that would be their first priority…Instead philanthropy is a sideshow as to who can get more media, PR, press, TV coverage …can anyone say Bono…

Doctors without borders do a remarkable job.
Sad thing is they have to do what our useless governments
    should be doing.

But that’s the way of the worldly.

  17. Bonsoir,

    Useful, interesting and well directed.

“Médecins sans frontières” ( the speaker has the French T-Shirt ) or “Doctors without borders” :

    let us help them.

    S.

    P.S

They are often the actors on the effects. Another way would be to know who are the culprits of the causes, and how to avoid or to prevent.

A question for the rich countries.

  20. Wow! That was pretty humbling.
Maximum respect to those doctors who make the rest of us seem a little shallow.
We can admire them and say ‘well done,’ but we know we could/would never make that big an effort and sacrifice even if we had the skills.
    If we’re honest that is.

  21. Well done. At just over 8 pounds per gallon, the visual of someone in stressful conditions carrying 5 gallons (40+ pounds) over several miles just hurts to think about. Powerful piece!

  22. I have the highest regard for “Doctors without Borders”. I was a bit suprised to see them in a rather rough area of Afghanistan in 2004; the only non-locals in that area were Coalition Forces and “DWB”. The media types were back in Kabul or Kandahar for safety. God Bless DWB and the work they do.

  24. Hedda Hosebage II here, reporting from beautiful downtown Greensboro NC! Hedda II? I guess that’d make me a double hedda! ahuh ahuh ahuh
Good evening Ladies & Gentlemen and the other little chips that pee!
    News Flash:
The Ice Princess swooped by here the other day on her battery powered broom makin’ her way to Greensboro. I hear she had herself a wild ol’ time partyin’ with the Coneheads, Mr. Conehead and his certifiably inane wife, Moanin’ Leeser. They later went to the “now famous” StringBean coffee hole where all the notable uppity ups and other zeros take up space! A grand ole opry time was had by all. She has since reported she’s now in Centeral Standard Time! Damn! She is a witch. It won’t be CST for another 3 weeks. Anyhoo, those of us still in Daylight Time wave a fond good bye and good riddance to her and her Goomba force!
Y’all come on down an’ see us sometime. Ye heer! ;-}3

    Hey RB, great piece today.
So interesting this occured right in NYC

Hedda Hosebag II What’s up with you. Why the HATE.

AmandaAcrossAmerica is actually a very worthwhile project featuring, so far, some heavy hitters, Jeff Jarvis, Atrios and the commenter just above, Andy Carvin. The interviews are well conducted and charming as well as informative.

Don’t know what your agenda is, but this kind of pure bile does not reflect well on you (nice to be anonymous with a made-up name) or the site on which you comment.

  28. Some good friends of ours see this type of crisis daily in Haiti. The need is so great. They are Christian missionaries just trying to make a small dent.

For Shannnon in the above post - it’s not a bunch of “liberal crap”. These friends of mine are dyed in the wool Christian Republican conservatives. Love and caring for fellow human beings does not have a political slant.

  31. Presuming 50% of the world will always see this kind of program as insightful / inspirational / informative / necessary and 20% of the world will always see it as false / self-aggrandizing / liberally biased / unpleasant, I suppose the important part is how it affects the 30% who could be swayed in either direction.

Best idea: if you have a question or want to learn more, find out for yourself.

Personally, I say: great job at stepping outside the tech world for a moment and reminding those of us who probably have the means to effect change that change still needs to be effected.

  33. DWB/MSF are one of the best aid organisations around. They are often the first to arrive in a crisis, one of the few to stay on after the press have left, and the only organisation I have ever heard to be honest enough to say, “stop donating money for this, we don’t have the projects or people to do more useful projects”.

These guys will always have my support as long as they keep up the excellent work they’ve been doing.
