FIRST! (sorry bob, you crybaby)
whats with you people and being first?
cartoons?
If you comment “First” you are stupid.
Okay. Interesting enough. However, for me a Rocketboom without Joanne is like an icecream cone without the icecream.
Cool stuff. Being a massive comic book geek, I’m used to any kind of sequential art/animation seldom getting the attention it deserves. So, thanks for that.
Joanne, where are you? Please come back…
What happened to Joanne? Anyways, interesting show! At one time I considered trying animation using game models. Even though 3D models would speed up the process a bit, it’s still time consuming and takes a lot of work!
Everyone back to work before your bosses catch you watching this.
Nice job Sherng-Lee.
Adam go to http://www.teddyhose.com/
Oh crap my boss is getting to work……… : )
Peace
I was really disappointed today…
Who’s the target audience for this stuff?
The Lester Rhymes video is further proof that rap music is all about “Anger & Power” which lead to Violence.
That are more enlightening ways to improve one’s confidence and low self-esteem.
I liked it. I almost always like cartoons, though. Even really bad cartoons.
I agree with Leron about the drool and about PC.
Not exactly”Fantasia”, but it does show that there are a lot of ways to tell a story.
Props to leron on his take about the rude comments. We’re not talking about “you look nice today”. We’re talking about insulting remarks that you would never say to someone if they were standing in front of you.
Great animations. I really enjoyed todays RB.
Since I usually post in the comments almost at the end, I wanted to re-post what I posted yesterday at this earlier space because I believe it to be very important:
As to the continuing personal comments about Joanne, just think how seldom a male anchor of a vlog like this would be fawned on this way. The question is one of respecting her on-screen persona, her WORK, after all, and not drooling about her as a female object that you can form attachments to WITHOUT HAVING GOTTEN TO KNOW HER AS A PERSON. She deserves to be respected more than this. This is the issue as I see it. And I believe, correct me if I’m wrong, this is the issue as most women would see it.
Come back Joanne, Joanne? Joanne? Come Back!! Where are you angel?
D Henry: you’re never going to get to know Joanne as a person. Neither am I. I know it seems as if we do, but there’s a reason they call it acting. You yourself seem to acknowledge this by referring to her “on-screen persona.”
As for male anchors being fawned over, this happens all the time, just as it does with male actors. Hence the expression in media circles, “He has a face for radio.”
I agree that comments about Joanne’s appearance should be in good taste.
Part of vlogging is about creativity and self expression. Especially using non traditional methods or mediums. That’s what today’s ep was about. And today’s ep was cool.
Perhaps the history of animation is rife with one guy “borrowing” from the other and BOOBOTZ certainly looks a lot like one John K’s Ren & Stimpy. But really this is just further proof that animation sinks further into the abyss as it becomes more and more “limited” when you would expect just the opposite with the amazing technological resources available. I have to admit I am very Old School and miss the works of one Chuck Jones & Bob Clampett dearly and while I lament the lack of artistry in these productions offered today, it is really the script and story that is so lacking. Most animated features that fail today (and many do) do so because they never took the time to tell a good story. They just throw animated crap on a screen and hope a bunch of kids and parents show up. At this point I will now step down from my soap box.
I thought Joanne looked gorgeous today:)
Hey Kamuelaman! New iMac? Good move!
How about ‘ToonBoom Studio.’
They tell me it’s easy to learn and not too pricey. And then there’s always ‘Flash.’
Thanks Nab for covering my back there a bit regarding potshots from self-appointed thought police.
Well, class, lets take brief minute to explode a few “politically correctisms” …
Anyone who thinks rocketboom would be AS successful without a sexually compelling figure like Joanne (or Amanda) is kidding themselves.
Lets see, two hosts in a row … and surprise! … both great looking and youngish women. But…God forbid anyone would salute such feminine pulchritude! The fact is her very significant talent set is part of her overall sexuality.
But lets not let on that she’s attractive … oh no … that would be sexist. But … its still fine to suggest that the President of the USA lied to his country and planned 9/11. Now THAT … is an obscenity.
I compliment Joanne on her great talent and her womanly allure. Even if they say othewise, believe me when I tell you that every woman needs to feel beautiful and adored–as well as respected for their accomplishments.
That’s far different than making trashy comments, which no one I’ve noticed here, does. Joanne speaking French should make any man feel energized–as a man. But that’s not a bad thing except in a world where to admit that gender (and its innate attraction)really exists is somehow dehumanizing. I say rather the reverse.
Try putting a fat, ugly guy beind the desk at rocketboom (even one that speaks four languages) and see how many male reponses you get.
Just because there’s sexual energy doesn’t make it a bad thing–or a cheap thing. True sexuality vs. tawdry exhibitionism, is composed of intellect, voice, viewpoint, and yes … can include overall appearance.
By the way, the Twin Towers fell because a ruthless enemy flew planes into them–a totally random act from our point of view. The heat from the flames melted the supporting beams allowing upper stories to crash down on the one beneath the flame, exceeding its weight bearing capability. Iftfell in turn and created a cascading effect all the way down. This was from a structural engineer friend who predicted the collapse shortly after the planes hit the buildings and for the very reasons noted above. Where does insanity like “the president planned it’ come from??
By the way, Joanne, you are most gifted and gorgeous woman. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Love you all.
Bill the Admiring PR Guy
A coup happens in thailand and you run with cartoons.
you guys have seriously slipped. you have a powerful voice on the web, and the powerful medium of video bloging and instead of using it to educate you audience you put up the same thing the old media does, dribble, but to you credit, your dribble is slightly more obscure.
gmrbill — sincere thanks to you for your service to our nation.
I agree with your well-stated comments.
Nonymoss — cut RB some slack, please. There is a lead time involved in producing a program of this kind.
Nice show today. Especially like the Tale of Lester Rhymes…the two color portions of the animation especially. When more colors were added it was still visually compelling…but there’s something about that blue and black that really worked well.
Nice change of pace today.
Fred — Nonymous didn’t say RB shouldn’t have the right to choose cartoons over international events. He only said they were wrong to do it.
That’s the last word from me for today. I’ve used up all my opinions.
I agree with the Danger Mouse copy (tribute?). Right down to the bespectacled Penfold.
I found the last cartoon to be the best. The line work was fantastic and the angles and motion were more cinematic than your standard cartoon.
Why do these young people today go to bed so late? The animators look so pasty and pale. Without proper sleep, they create cliche-ridden cartoons but think they are interesting. Monitor burnout is the cannibus of today.
Leron, it seems to me scuzzy flamers say things like “your views on women make me want to take shower.”
But hey, thanks for your permission to “think whatever I want” and even “post whatever I want.”
Those are rare concessions from the Thought Police. Frankly, I didn’t have you in mind when I posted earlier, but you clearly are a charter member of the TP.
Sorry the idea of women being sexual makes you want to shower. Sounds like an early childhood maladjustment.
But I think we would all appreciate it if you did take a shower.
BTW, you’re really not entitled to “call people out” in this forum. Although I realize that the TP operate on that princple of self appointed jurisdiction.
Consider that women spend immeasurable time and money to be what, Leron, sexually appealing. There’s no crime in it … its just reality.
Name the last sexually unappealing national news or entertainment figure you can think of … short list isn’t it.
Have a nice shower. (Don’t forget to wash behind your ears).
Your new friend,
Bill the PR Guy
This misses the mark. You should have showed more animators, more animations.
What is up with these animators? I understand that some folks find their work amusing, but when was the last time any of them got laid? Are there no attractive single women in NYC? They must all commute in from the suburbs and get out before dark, leaving the male populace with nothing better to do.
I’ll say it. As a female, I have not found the remarks towards Joanne to be distasteful. That’s just one woman, we are all different, you know, and it is *possible* I may have missed something said, although not very likely. All this discussion is putting Joanne in a bit of a bad spot, however. The question of how she feels is looming…but she’s kind of damned no matter what she might say on the subject. I doubt she will come forward…I don’t think I would. Maybe some girls out there could help us with this? I know I’m not the only female fan of RB!!!
t
Well,
I’m a fan of animation and comics and art in general, but I have to say today’s animation shows were nearly unbearably bad. Strangely uninventive, boring and overall not important. Stylistically, the rapper one was easily the best, but still kinda lacking.
A message to the filmmakers: I know these things take a long time to produce, I do. But please make sure you have something to say before spending six months on a dog.
For those interested, take a look at an independent animator who actually makes something watchable:
http://www.doogtoons.com/ep-dtaan5.php
I think Joanne should come out one day and do a “Paris Hilton” on us proclaiming:
“I’m hot!”
Now that would lay all this cyber-oggling to rest.
The amateur animations are not entertaining in the least. Don’t go back there for any more so-called cartoons.
You guys are heartless….and sexist. I’m an animator, and I worked until 4 am every night to finish my animated film at SVA and enjoyed doing it. So we can’t emulate Disney or Looney Tunes, but you know…Disney and Looney Tunes animators were just as unappreciated then as they are now. Animators usually work very hard for very little respect (not to mention pay), doing what they love to do, draw. All they want to do is make people of all ages laugh, cry, and emote for god sakes.
As far as wanting Looney Tunes quality stuff, yeah we try to emulate Looney Tunes, we’ve learned from it, and expressed similarities through our personal styles, but in the end NO ONE will be satisfied by any other animations other than Looney Tunes and Disney. Have you guys ever heard of Don Bluth, or Richard Williams? I bet not.
Why don’t you give us new animators a try, we don’t all do the mainstream crap that’s on tv these days *COUGH, Nickelodeon* come to some film festivals and then see just how complex, or comedic we can be. We’re really just trying to lighten people up in this crappy state of affairs we are in (the war…gas prices…life).
Side note: If you’ll research a little bit, Walt Disney was not originally an animator, but a businessman. His Chief animator was UB Iwerks, and NO ONE knows who he is.
BTW I am a woman and an animator, and I’ll have you know that we love our animator men…they’re hotter than any of you guys drooling over Joanne any day. Give the woman some respect…jeez.
Here’s another angle from a female Rocketboom fan regarding the constant “compliments” on Joanne’s appearance.
It’s sweet if your husband tells you everyday that you are beautiful and he can’t bear to be without you.
It’s romantic if your boyfriend tells you the same.
It’s thoughtful and sweet if a date tells you you are cute.
However, it’s a little creepy to hear the same sentiment, everyday, from STRANGERS IN A PUBLIC FORUM who are supposed to be commenting on the content of the show and the quality of your work.
You are not complimenting Joanne on what’ she’s done. You are commenting on what God has done. That’s different than complimenting HER. See?
I guess the trick is in putting yourself in another’s shoes. Remember, Joanne has no idea what most of you look like, and yet you feel comfortable commenting on something as personal as her appearance. That’s got to be a little scary on some level.
One of the prices of fame, I guess.
Having said all that, I am sure you are all very nice fellows indeed and mean no harm.
By the way, today’s show was nice.
