  11. Great show.
Trivia question: Why does Dr. Pepper have 10-2-4 on the bottle cap. I heard that originally it was an aid to “regularity”. Nothing like a little poop trivia.

  16. FYI… Joanne, on those diet cokes you sucked down, you receved 110 mgs of caffeine.

Caffeine can have dire and long lasting effects on the body’s major organs and functions. These organs and functions include the heart and the cardiovascular system as a whole, cerebral blood flow, eyes and the central nervous system. As caffeine is a substance that can be easily avoided, the caffeine related degeneration of these major organs be averted by being vigilant.

One study found that caffeine intake is associated with increased blood pressure in some adolescents. African American adolescents in particular were found to have higher systolic blood pressure. The word systolic refers to the first — or higher — number in a blood-pressure reading, and it is seen as an important indicator or high blood pressure and related cardiovascular diseases. Caffeine intake among adolescents is high because they consume a lot of soda - this habit, combined with other unhealthy lifestyle choices will lead to increased poor health as adolescents get older. Another area where caffeine has been found to affect the systolic blood pressure is through dieting - some people who take diet pills containing caffeine combined with other products have been found to have irregular heart beats and higher systolic blood pressure readings.

Another study found that patients recovering from an acute ischaemic stroke who consume caffeine experience a drop in cerebral blood flow. This drop not only leads to longer recovery times but it may also lead to adverse clinical consequences. Furthermore, changes in the cerebral blood flow indicate changes in intracranial pressure, the pressure within the rigid skull. Thus, caffeine not only affects blood flow, but it also changes pressure in the skull and eventually leads to headaches.

Limiting caffeine intake has also been found to be helpful in preventing Parkinson’s disease - although there are some people who would argue that caffeine prevents Parkinson’s, some studies have shown that women who take postmenopausal hormones should avoid caffeine. Those who consume little to no caffeine have been found to have a lower risk of developing Parkinson’s.

An Israeli study indicates that too much caffeine may be detrimental for people with glaucoma and ocular hypertension. The study tested people who consumed regular and decaffeinated coffee for a week. When these people were tested, the pressure in their eye had increased tremendously and these effects were found to be worse among people who ingested regular coffee. The implications of this study are serious as high intraocular pressure may worsen vision loss and counteract the effects of glaucoma drugs. Thus, people with eye diseases and conditions should limit or eliminate caffeine from their diet.

Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system first at the higher levels, the cortex and medulla, and finally the spinal cord at higher doses. Mild stimulation seems to be beneficial, however, one or two cups of coffee or other caffeine containing substances, can lead to the onset of hyperesthesia, an unpleasant sensory sensation.

In addition, although caffeine stays in the body from three and a half hours to six hours, if someone has liver disease, caffeine can accumulate in the body for up to ninety-six hours and continue to affect the body’s organs.

  17. Since we’re on the topic of Diet Coke vices, we shouldn’t leave out the pithy wisdom of one Paris Hilton who once said, “Diet Coke is for fat people.”

  20. Digital Warfare

…a concert not covered by copyright, hmmm. I wonder what Mick Jagger would say about that? Thanks for telling us (wink, wink) the BIGGEST BENEFIT for getting this sucker. Otherwise who needs it?? Hey, how about first-run movies? You go to the theatre, pull the sucker out of your nap-sack, film the movie and let your entire family watch it at home…for FREE! Wonderful! Did you hear that Hollywood?

Great milking song. I think he should go on tour and have a few back-up cow singers. Where’s Paul Simon? I smell a second Afro-American colab CD.

    Best for last!
Joanne I didn’t know you came from identical triplets! This gives new meaning to the word “threesome”. Wow, you all have the same mannerisms. Invite your sisters more often. It’s not Two for Tuesday. It’s “Three for Wednesday… ” (hint, hint)

  28. That Caffiene Awareness post left out a couple of facts.

Caffiene relieves my asthma. Also, according to Psychology Today, “Regular coffee drinkers show a decreased risk of type 2 diabetes, gallstones and colon cancer. And they show improved cognitive function and are less likely to develop Parkinson’s disease.”

Now, if Caffeine Awareness is truly concerned about citizen health, they may want to turn their attention to a grave risk to our health, the universally used but death-dealing chemical known as dihydrogen monoxide. The health hazards of dihydrogen monoxide are known, and unlike caffeine, dihydrogen monoxide is ingested on a daily basis by absolutely everyone on the planet.

  31. Ruud Elmendorp’s reports are like precious gold to us in insular USA. I love them. We can go places far more interesting than outer space (in my opinion).
As to the continuing personal comments about Joanne, just think how seldom a male anchor of a vlog like this would be fawned on this way. The question is one of respecting her on-screen persona, her WORK after all and not drooling about her as a female object that you can form attachments to WITHOUT HAVING GOTTEN TO KNOW HER AS A PERSON. This is the issue as I see it. And I believe, correct me if I’m wrong, this is the issue as most women would see it.

  35. Joanne… juicy, judicious, jovial, and just awesome.
P.S. Avoid aspartame, Donny Rumsfield got his buddies at the FDA to railroad the crap through, Rummy was the CEO of company called G.D. Searle & Co. (since absorbed into Monsanto). from Wikipedia: “In 1977, when Rumsfeld was CEO of the Searle corporation, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was reportedly reluctant to legalize aspartame (NutraSweet) because of adverse effects on animals in testing. On January 25, 1981, (shortly after President Reagan took office), the previous FDA commissioner’s authority was suspended, and the next month, the commissioner’s job went to Dr. Arthur Hull Hayes, a medical doctor and pharmacist. In July, Hayes approved aspartame for dry foods.”

I wouldn’t drink diet soda, reports are that it creates brain lesions, etc.
