  8. Yep, her expression when she said, “If they were, alive - I mean I know that they aren’t…”
    hmmmm…now that’s the real question isn’t it.

  9. Neat. A girl who isn’t afraid of or turned off by circuitry. You don’t see that every day.

BTW, I hate that guy’s glasses.

  13. I think “morbid” is likely too positive a term to describe these things… she should call up Marilyn Manson and help with his next video.

  17. uh… very creepy. Yeah: Sebastion’s lair from Blade Runner (did Roy kill him or did he slip away?). The house & lighting were moody, too - it’s cloudy and weird outside, now. Also Anastasia was, somehow… sexy? (in a good way).

    Effective.

I think I’ll take a short nap so I can wake up, on that one.

  18. When I was a kid, the movie “Gremlins” gave me nightmares and creeped me out. As an adult, these just might do it too. They cross that boundary of animate/inanimate objects. Alive or dead?

I think they’re still awesome, though! Great artistry and mechanics.

  19. There was a point early on
in that where i was thinking ..

    Oh noooooo …

I sat there thinking - yeah yeah .. animatronics ..
and any kind basic motors such
as you get with Lego etc..

then I started listening too and watching her ..

    Then I launched Multimap.com
    just to make sure there’s
    enough distance between me ..
.. her, and the radius of
    movement she might get with
    the average battery life of
    one of those “‘things’”.

Cool - I’ll remember that one, probably for ever!
Could you do a follow up if she moves house?
Just to be on the safe side.

By the way you did a feature
on the tech gallery in N.Y.

    Any chance you could track
    down some of the artists
    there and do some profile
    features ?

    Ta’ra’ all.

THIS IS cool stuff, very cool, and definitely Rocketboom worthy.

You know who’s NOT Rocketboom worthy, YOU.

I hereby refund you your 2 minutes back……use it wisely.

wow… I’m not sure if I should think that, that was the creepiest thing I’ve every seen, or rather cool. Anastacia (sp?) is a very interesting induvidual. My teacher said she was rather odd, but I think she’d be a cool person to hang with. She does remind me of sid though, and the whole baby bird thing kind of scared me.

  23. I really liked this insight into a quite unique art.

Animatronic engineering at this level seems humble but just as compelling as anything high budget.

And she seems to really be enthusiastic about her craft, which is one of the most important factors to me.

I would have hoped to see more of her finished (and non-disembowled) works though as opposed to seeing her mostly explain her ultimate intentions

  25. Jake — Although I may be damning with faint praise, I agree that the sinister robot critters are better than the shoe paintings, better than the cube tent, and possibly better than the glass pumpkins.

I like the way she talks in such a hushed voice, as if to avoid startling her creations. Don’t hire her to watch the kids, though. Or the pets.

She and Norman Bates have a shared interest that intersects ornithology, thanatology, and taxidermy:

No pun intended, Chuck, but I kept waiting for Chucky to appear! (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0387575/Ss/0387575/6561.jpg.html)

At the beginning I thought this was going to be a wasted edition, but those creations are so eccentric I was drawn in.

Those dolls are in Minneapolis? I’m starting to change my mind about the US building a wall along the Canadian border. I guess it will keep stuff IN as well as out. I have no desire to star in “Chucky in Canada.”

Thanks for sharing your passion with us Anastasia!

  29. Loved this edition. Back to the fundamentals of Rocketboom. I guess that there may be a creepy side to all of this but the creativity is outstanding. After seeing what she has done without the Cricket I can only imagine what she will do with it. And, yes I have to say that Anastasia is a rather alluring character - for lack of a better term.

It would creeeep me out to go to sleep surrounded by those…. performance artbots… creeepbots…. fuzzbots…

I second the J. F. Sebastian comment and the Tim Burton intro comment.
