  2. Wow! What a Monday show… a nice start to the week.

Given a long enough timeline someone may pass away while watching RocketBoom.

    Hey, it could happen.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

She spoke regarding a transmission from paris for France24 ? Excited to come in Paris, but also for croissant, dresses and other things that makes women happy and spend money …

  5. It is great to see Joanne being herself, as in the case of the closing French remarks. Contrast that with the rest of the show which is harshly scripted.

My take is, let Joanne be, loosen up a little, and the show would be 1000% better.

  7. Regarding the odds of dying chart - this chart applies statistics of 2003 to lifetime odds of death.

A few things stand out - 1-84 chance of dying in a vehicle accident is shocking.

Best bet for prolonging life is to conquer heart problems, cancer, and stroke. Shouldn’t we be putting a greater portion of $$ and political capital into these diseases rather than more minor threats such as AIDS? And should we be looking at whether all of the expense and broughhaha over stem cell research is worthwhile.

I know that both of these issues are politically charged, but shouldn’t the lionshare of or tax $$ for research go to save the most lives?

Then again - we are dealing with government and common sense - mutually exclusive all too often.

  10. Perky little number - - -
    …. just what Monday’s need.

On a really cool note -
I’ve never met anyone who died of any of those causes.

On a less cool note - does
this mean they didn’t die -
and just didn’t want to hang
    out any more ?
Or is this list inaccurate ..
well take a look at the
    Aircraft/Space?? category.
    ……. errrr…
..that’s so far off the mark
    I think these stats must
only apply to the U.S. military….
    but then the firework figure
    would need revising.

    Have a good week y’all.

  11. Slashdot doesn’t really “write” anything.

the best that could get to being true would be “Commander Taco of slashdot writes that …”

but in this case you should have said “Reported on slashdot,…” or “Slashdot reports,…”, “report” being the operative verb.

but then if every news aggregating media outlet actually referenced the original source, it’d be a totally different world, wouldn’t it? Although RB *usually* does a decent job of that

    Well whatevs

Actually a good show today imo

    thx guys

  13. Joanne, here’s some videos of Paris.

Don’t worry, I didn’t shoot any video of the chain smokers.

And here are some photos of the tents that the homeless live in, provided (I think) by Mediciens Sans Frontiers. I tried asking MSF here in the US to ask why they don’t give tents to American homeless people, but I haven’t gotten a response.

That was just about the most biased anti-Zune review you could possibly find in a “mainstream” newspaper. I have no personal interest in favor of the Zune, especially since I am a Mac user, but as a Mac user I know the work of that author, Andy Inhatko. His articles are marked by two characteristics: They are always pro-Apple, and they are always hyperbolic. I actually enjoy reading his articles very much, because they are funny (intentionally). He will start with a subject and gradually ramp up the hyperbole, humor, and pop culture references until I’m laughing well before the end of the article. Andy is the Dave Barry of Mac computer columnists.

I do not like the Zune, but presenting Inhatko’s opinion of the Zune does not qualify as objective information. Anyone who knows Andy’s writing already knows he will hate it, and already knows that if it’s a “complete, humiliating failure” on Andy’s scale, on a normal scale he means it’s “OK, with some quirks.”

  17. Way back at the dawn of the 1960s, I learned that one of the sexiest sounds on earth was the voice of a woman with an English accent speaking French. (Example: Petula Clark’s recording of “Chariot,” which is an order of magnitude better than the US version by Little Peggy March, which was retitled “I Will Follow Him.”)

Today’s RB confirms this premise, and for that I am grateful.
