Gee, with 99.9% of the media focusing on politics, I really appreciate RocketBoom filing that final void!

I can’t wait to be preached to by another media outlet…, oh hurray…

  18. I think that the Republicans are the ones that should celebrate. Failure in government can be blamed squarely on the shoulders of the Democrats for the next two years!

Not that I’m saying that the Republicans are more capable of doing a good job. Just saying that anyone can be a critic, but not many are capable of true leadership.

So Dems, you’re running the show now - let’s see what - if anything- you are made of!

  19. You know I hate it when you flame bait your audience, RB. And guess what you did today?

Although this wasn’t nearly as inflammatory as other past episodes, maybe a 4 of 10 on the flamebait scale,

AND, its quite easy for the weaker political party to say ‘you suck because of X’.

It’s quite another thing entirely for that party to prove they can do better.

The D’s have their chance now, I suppose. But with the houses so closely divided, and politics being politics, my expectations are very, very low.

And now for my inflammatory response:

“buck fush” goes right in there with 99% of the rest of the things American citizens say when they talk politics - as in, completely groundless opinions, and really just supportive of their own interests (and yeah, maybe their are facts to support that disapproval of Bush [in fact I know there are, such as his excessive use of signing statements and attempts at circumventing supreme court rulings on torture]. But you weren’t exaclty sharing those facts were you?)

‘Yea democrats!’ would have been a much better phrase to use. *sshole.

George W Bush has gotten two laws past that give him dictatorial powers.

    1.
Military Commissions Act, which lets him declare anyone an enemy combattant, especially US citizens, and murder them.

    2.
John Warner Defense Authorization Act, which gives Bush control over the National Guard and let him use them to use deadly force against protesters.

  23. The Republican majorities in the House and Senate were such that Bush and congressional Republicans could vigorously advance their agenda and essentially ignore the Democrats.

During the past six years, the Republican Congress could often count on support from the judicial branch as well.

Congressional Democrats, who are less politically homogeneous than Republicans to begin with, must rally behind a vague agenda and will have to work while under hostile fire from the other branches.

The Democrats now have nominal control of the House and Senate, but their majorities are so slender that the most likely outcome is rancorous gridlock.

I suggest to Joanne that see focus on Prince Charles and and his flavor of the month.

The dems who came to power came to power on republican platforms … not one of them said … lets cut and run and give the bad boys a timeline so they can set their watches.

I agree that Bush and Rummy made some mistakes and it will be great to have a ‘collaborative’ effort in the war.

But.. once the Dems step up with a plan they need to stand BEHIND it even when it isn’t popular and play politics as usual. It’s easy to throw stones, lets see how they stop global islamic jihad.

BTW, they want all women to wear veils and will gladly cut your head off if you don’t convert. So a little negativity in their direction might be appropriate rather than demeaning the leader of the free world 24/7. Just a thought.

And no, I AM NOT Bill Clinton.

Vote on the issues, people, and the candidates. Not on the party. Besides, the party platforms have flip-flopped in the past and could do it again. What then of the whole “my side, your side” rhetoric? Very short-sighted and lacking in principle from an individual POV.

Keep churning out and selling those weapons to the 3rd world, oops… I mean underdeveloped nations, so the war games can continue. Keep polluting the world through massive consumption. Yes, the Dems & Repubs are two sides of the same shit-coin.
All talk and tons of inaction. This country needs a 3rd party real bad. A viable option that doesn’t win elections by blame and spin…otherwise America is doomed to play toilet seat to the world.

Such negative responses to the show, I’m pretty amazed, but maybe that’s just ’cause I think Drew and Joanne are entitled to their opinions (although to both of you I just want to say: bieng Republican doesn’t make a person evil or make a politician a bad one)

To my mind much of the country votes along party lines regardless of what happens, and its the 10% or so of voters that think before they cast their vote that are responsible for the outcomes of the close elections. So I’m thinking that the Democrats don’t have any more of a mandate than the republicans did the last time around. That said, some checks and balances in our government will keep certian folks from running roughshod over our constitution.

My crystal ball says that we are NOT in for gridlock all around, George W. wants to leave office with a positive legacy and the only way to get there is to work with the House and Senate on issues where common ground can be found such as education, health care, reduction of pork, and energy conservation (yup, here is an opening for you conspiracy theorists …have at it!). Oh yea, there will also probably also agreement on funding the development of chastity belts for pages. The one area I don’t hold much promise on is the war in Iraq…unless, of course, Republicans start to disagree with the Commander-and Chief in the hopes of getting re-elected.

Maybe we can get the Wiki-kitchen guys to do something with our Congress and attach members on both sides of the hall with string depending on the issue?

  43. jimster,
in response to yesterday’s post, Iran and Syria think the way Arafat did. Talk is a ploy, to stall for time. The mullahs of Iran want nukes for a reason. Islam has seen better days …, and they are not going to be simply talked out of the best way they no how to bring the sword of Allah to the world.I believe the West will not make a definitive move to insure Iranian mullahs do not acquire a nuclear capacity, and because the West will not, my hunch is the US and Europe will come to big time blows with Iran and Syria from seven to twenty years from now. I imagine within five years Iranian testicles will be kicked hard two or three times by Israel, first, before all hell breaks loose, but Israeli action may not stop their acquisition of nuclear bombs. Five years from now though I believe Iran will actually have a number of them to hand out, and then another year or two will pass as the mullahs decide which world incident provokes them to deem it necessary enough to actually use one. Once the mullahs (or Kim with North Korea? for some reason I just do not worry abour that guy …) take responsibility for the first nuclear terroristic expression of Allah’s will, then a Democrat or Republican administration, doesn’t matter anymore, steps will definitely be taken to quickly “dismantle” the Iranian and Syrian governments. If this does pan out as I imagine now, I hope Hillary is our President …, that would be beautiful and oh so nice in the history books. “Hillary Slays Dinosauric Government of Iranian Mullahs” I digress.Just ask yourself the question; why do Iranian mullahs want nuclear bombs? Surgical strikes will be directed at these mullahs, absolutely, but given what their government and religious culture is all about, I really don’t understand why someone doesn’t kick them in the balls today …Excuse me, I do know why. Take a gander and ponder upon the mentality of the celebrator’s in our midst. A nuclear terroristic expression has to happen first, to make half the population of the US stop celebrating all the time, and to also stop talking to Iranians and Syrians like the oh so nice and kind and thoughtful and bright and brilliant and civilized people that we are, and then go and “do something.”

According to this timetable I have five years to propogandize the Best of the West to the Islamic world, to institute my plan. So I still have time.

I gotta go “do something,” so I’m not going to be responding to any comments after this post.

  56. I subscribe to Rocketboom through iTunes for amusement and a lunchtime escape from my hectic work day. If part of the audience found Joanne and Drew’s episode amusing (whichever party to blindly follow), so be it. RB isn’t going to amuse all the people all the time. Did I find it particularly amusing? Not so much. If I were to rate the show, I’d probably give it a 3 on a 10 scale, and that’s just because Joanne’s got an awesome accent. I felt it was alot of the same boring stuff that we’ve seen the past couple of days.

As much as I’ve enjoyed Rocketboom in the past, I’m finding it a bit too trivial and not that interesting anymore. I don’t think it’s really Joanna’s fault, but that Drew is drying up on interesting content. I’m sure if they had anything more interesting to say than the Dems won alot of seats, they would have. I’m finding it really isn’t that amusing anymore and this vlog, well, isn’t that interesting. I’m starting to loose faith in the renegade, offbeat, interesting, RB that I used to watch with a passion. I guess it’s going to be a victim of the Andy Warhol syndrome…..

  59. I’m all for cake anytime. I’m also glad the dems won. Not because I think they’ll pull out of iraq or anything. On the contrary, I think Pelosi’s comments in one interview were telling. I can’t remember the quote exactly but she basically said that while she doesn’t think going to war was right, if she did have to go to war she would have gone with overwhelming force to get the job done. My guess is the dem leadership will indeed agree we need to win and will increase our force there. Why did the GOP lose? IMHO it’s because many who’d otherwise vote gop don’t believe that we have to trounce on civil rights to defend freedom. Can’t get approval for wiretapping within 72 hours, have to torture to get information, have to have prisons so bad they’d be illegal to have in the US, can’t manage a way to give people held captive due process under the guise that since they aren’t US citizens it’s legal to treat them like that, etc. Sure, I want my government to rule on the basic premise that it should treat people with the minimal decency that isn’t illegal. Or, is in the grey enough area they can claim the treatment isn’t illegal.

Here’s a tip for the GOP: One sure thing you can do to make sure the dems win the white house is to run a candidate who claims that water boarding is fine and dandy.
