it’s art ! ;P
I liked those nary a glance on their way no matter what New Yakwers, not sure they were “moved” by your art.
I call it art if they stop and stare at it. I call it Art if a gallery owner’s line of BS will persuade Mr. and Mrs. Pennypacker to spend gobs of money on it.
Anything that isn’t food, shelter or clothing or the pursuit of attaining food, shelter and clothing is art.
Any expression or act beyond what is needed to sustain us is art.
This leads to the money/art debate. I define wealth as how long can you go without working. If you create art and make money at it, it’s not art. Once you attain a point where you don’t need to to create art for money, it’s art again.
I don’t trust anyone who calls him or herself an artist or what he or she creates “art”. Those are labels for another generation to decide. To give such names in the present is just uselessly pretentious.
You’re an Artist. I knew it.
best wig ever .. .
As one of America’s most struggeling artists, I found your report most insightful. Those of us engaged in true art are bastions of integrity for a society mired in inuendo. Yada yada.

Cool sunglasses.
You look very ana voogish in that wig, amanda!!!
Wow, that was a freaky friday.
I really like this vivid art on street. You reminded me on those artists on street that don’t move for hours. It’s a big body control and I think you did it very well.
Keep on thinking and asking interesting questions that we all wanna to know!
Many greetings,
Steffi from Germany
An art is an art is an art.
Art not what your country can do for you, art what you can do for your country.
If I could be Art for just one day…
Amanda, Amanda, wherefore Art thou, Amanda?
You gotta fight, for your right, to arty!
If you art me up, if you art me up I’ll never stop.
Half a league, half a league, half a league onward. Into the Valley of Art rolled the 600!
Art ceterart…
Art for arts sake. Isn’t the creative act alone justify artistic creativity? But it is not ts is reason enough for pursuing them. There is talent, education and time that goes into art. Art is not a finished product, but the last stage of the creative process. It is the end result of the process. Not the process. Also, art does not have to serve purposes, but it does need to follow the process.
Our society is addicted to mediocrity and gets by. We have sold out as a society and ignore the arts. Unless they are graphic designers, multimedia developers and/or web developers.
So, what is good art? By today’s standards it is dependent on the flux of fad. What was it before? Art was the end result of the creative process.
Blah blah blah….
Maria
Her eyes are blue like deep ocean blue, her lips red
from forbidden seeds–the open slit
in the pomegranate between her fingers.
Her long neck invites,
her blond hair falls
like the ivy branch behind her.
Long fingers embrace the fruit, her wrist.
Above, milk & honey, and
all the roses, lilies, sheaves,
the light of consciousness, dream of virginity.
I know Art. This is Art.

Dear Amanda,
According to an interview with the jazz legend Shorty Pederstein, Art is a horn player who came to the band a few years ago and is doing a real nice job. He swings etc.
As Ever,
Eye Ball
To paraphrase a famous judge, “I don’t know how to define art, but I know it when I see it”. Awesome casual Friday!
We have all just become ‘friends/patrons of the arts’ - and there i was thinking i was uncivilised when it came to art.
hallo.my name is BENJAMIN.dear AMANDA are fantastic.today.there are everything for learning and one is those,j don’t say thing 4get,but true is the childen or childeners earthing everyone.ps:can j have your photo format 1000×1000.if yes thank you!
punch?
Surprised nobody put a quarter (25¢–for foreigners)
on the sole of your foot in the very last shot.
p.s. s. t. (hat’s art for P.S.)
Amandart, wear the wig more often, it’s electric. Hair is art. Art is hair.
Breathing is an art.
B-man
would loved to have commentary from the passer by’ers to see what was on their minds
Now who is this Art guy that everyone is talking about?
That’s not art. That’s modelling. Possibly …
That was a bold act to lay down in the sidewalk like that in front of other people. Now you should do a report on streaking. Streaking is an art. Streak, Amanda, streak! It’s for Art’s sake of course.
Is it wrong to dream about Amanda? ….ooohhh…did I say that out loud?
I love my daily fix of Rocketboom. It keeps the geek in me updated on the lates…um…geeky, and fun stuff going on…and makes me the coolest dude in the office. JK :)
Keep it up.
BTW - have you seen the Shock Absorber? Ya’ just gotta love those crazy Europeans.
Art was a window washer in Madison, WI. (RIP)
Hooray! This is one of the best Casual Fridays ever! (things can get too techie around here sometimes) All the creative side and fun side came out and there was joy in the streets Love ya allways… d henry
It really takes a brass set to lie down in the middle of Broadway and 76th street. I was a little worried when that poodle walked by and looked at you like a very inviting fire hydrant.
I have the same reaction as the poodle, though he had the sense to save it for something worth raising the leg for
the Laurie Anderson wig added a nice touch!
the Laurie Anderson wig added a nice touch!
amanda,
how about this as art….
make sure the files have audio as well before posting them so when my feed reader catches it and i go to play it i can here it as well. just ask your Christ Child S. Jobs, im sure he would recomend that you include audio in the the file.
i have to say though, the wig thing with the glasses was funny.
I have an uncle named Art. He only has four fingers on his right hand… terrible bowling ball return machine incident.
So I guess some could consider my Uncle Art’s right hand “art” ~~ others just consider it creepy.
LOVED the show today - laughed through the whole thing!
Much love,
Jen in Colorado
By the way— Do you guys ever respond to your email???
God, this has got to be the most tired dead horse of a topic ever. Art is not dead, but the argument over what is, is.
It is simple folks. Art is what an artist says is art. An artist is someone who points at something and says “that’s art”.
Art is not about quality. It isn’t art if it is good and not art if it is bad. It insn’t art if it is expensive and it isn’t art if it is recycled. It isn’t art if it is handcrafted and it isn’t art if it is readymade.
Art is simply looking at things from a different angle, or though a different lens. The street looks different if you call it art. You look at it differently, consider it from an aesthetic, political, social, even economic point of view rather than just the utilitarian “street” that you usually hardly notice.
Now, some art is more effective than other art at getting the audience to look, while some audiences are more effected by certain types of art than others, but whether or not it is art is just a dumb question.
Still, I did like the show, but I don’t agree on the wig. Amanda, you have lovely hair… don’t hide it.
Great piece on Art Amanda. I love it!!!
art is really anything (and I mean anything) that expresses or results from the culture of a society or individual. yes, even the stupid Geico commercials are art.
Art is whatever the “Cognoscenti” decree is this year’s Sensation Of The Century. (to paraphrase “The Painted Word” which is still a very cogent and accurate indictment of the Art world).
You little knucklehead you.
blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah, blah blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah
Dear Amanda,
You really need to get over your crippling shyness.
;-)
Love me some Boom!!
Amanda,
Perhaps U 4got 2 add your collection plate along side U when U were preforming your lay on the sidewalk street Art….?
Aloha, glennnnnn
I hope you get better. That stunk. Did you get the gum off your back from laying down?

you should always dress like that.
Post it once, shame on me.
Post it twice, shame on you.
Post it 3 times, it’s art.
call Art art at: 1-555-ART-FART
What is art? It depends on what your definition of is is.
Even picking my nose is art, right???
The longer the booger, the more audience it will attract and soon that booger will be auctioned off to some rich old boogerpicker who can tell his/her elitists friends to come over and sip champagne while pulling at their own boogers and some twit will videotape the whole affair and sell it as Booger art…the ultimate expression of mankind…
…beside ass scratching, that is.
For everyone out there who enjoys a good laugh at the whole “what is art” debate, check out some of the work of the Dada-ists.
In the 30’s, an artist named Man-Ray and his pals used to can their own feces and sell it to the “artistocracy” as high art. Then they would have a good laugh at the ridiculousness of the so-called art world.
What do you call a guy with no arms and no legs hanging on the wall?
Art.
You really have nice skin Amanda..what products do you use? You also look very athletic with your leg up like that…do I detect a gymnastics background?
Art was a window washer in Madison, WI, as noted earlier.
Elmore Leonard may not be art, but, possibly, God.
sry… testing opera alphas… some errors while sending occured. sry for doublepost :)
amanda…ur show is really really impressive
the itunes version doesn’t seem to be working.
great show though.
yes, today looked quite as art, specially the creation of your dad and mom haha, it would have been funny also if you showed your drawing to the people asking “this is art?” or putting a poster when you were “doing art” asking “is that art?”, “point to the answer” and the people pointed at a poster that said “yes” and “no”, like a poll by internet but real, it would have been interesting
Think of it as art for art’s sake. (Which, said Somerset Maugham, makes no more sense than gin for gin’s sake.)
Actually, I think our beloved Amanda is still into that Clandestine Dancing thing.
That is so Bruce Nauman…
dunno, kinda fell short on this one. Parody? Sarcasm? Earnest? Comedy? Absurd? Definitely not art, I mean Art, wait, I’m not sure what I mean or you meant.
If the above was ambiguous, good! So was today’s RB.
Fun. Funny. Question. Do we spell “_mazing _manda” with the lower case ‘a’ or upper case ‘A’? =)
Damn!
I love you guys.
You got it right the first time….
You ARE sick.
Hope you feel better soon.
:>)
Entertaining, but RB was already art without you having to designate it as such. Even after you start getting paid for it. There’s a difference between doing something to get paid and incidentally getting paid to do something that you would do regardless of whether or not you got paid.
See ya next week.
The variety and imagination never stops! Keep it up.
I’m upset.
I’m upset that I wasn’t randomly walking by when this was happening, recognize Amanda, and join in the human art act for a quick second, and then end up in one of the shots on today’s show.
I mean, the odds of that happening are pretty good right?
That was art-less…I should know. Drew, are you going to censor me again today?!?
@Leron-
That’s one of the 3 best things I’ve read all week. Thanks for posting it.
If I ever decide to go on a murderous rampage, I’m going to change my name to something Greta Van Susteren isn’t allowed to say on the air, like Anurag Dikshit or something that’s just silly like, Dick Burns.
Oh, and that Dr. Acula guy sucks.
Aww…this makes me sad to be an art-school student at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
If only you guys knew half of the “school of knox” we have to go through to try and define the work we create and actually make it meaningful - then to have some guy with vlog make fun and degrade us all.
An artist’s life is never easy.
Amen!
This is not downloading on itunes… check it out! :D
Amanda looked quite creepy with that wig, I don’t know why.
The art is the capacity within the artist. What the artists produces are works of art.
You Nutter!
Dave O, London
First, nice hair.
Second, that part of Broadway usually has lots of that kind of art. The other artistic compositions on Broadway include sounds as well as visuals, such as “Hung-rey” and “Giv mi a buk”.
…anthropomorphism in reverse. And it was refreshing.
amanda you are art. and you crack my ass up. thanks.
How come the podcast wont download on my itunes?
I really LOL’d ;)
if we all gain fame for 15 min in our lives, amanda is clearly raising the average…
I love you.
well amanda, I usually think you are an egotistical, self-serving actor who’s just in it for the fame… but that street art ws the funiest thing I have seen in ages. Takes guts. give yourself a point.
