It seems like the starlings are like Nature’s smart-mobs.
Starlings are nasty beasts! They steal the nests of our native birds and destroy their eggs. The also do major damage to farmers crops.
Birds are ok, but I miss Amanda :(

Here is a link about the birds on acid. Particularly Domoic Acid, which is birds can ingest by eating nasty seaweed. This story is about a bird found in Seattle.

Y’all need to get out of the big city a little more often. It is a bit unique that they appeared to be attracted to the cedar, but closer observation shows they were in the yard and maple tree as well. We’ve got flocks of those flying varmints out here in farm country.
Scott teaches the lesson that it’s always smart to have a camera around. You never know when or where you’ll come across things like this.
I’d still like to know why the starlings acted this way. It’s almost as if they were having fun.— “Let’s play catapult”!
Pretty damn fascinating. Birds are really weird creatures. I remember in Brooklyn on Bedford Avenue we would walk down the street and about 500 pigeons would be doing kind of the same thing — endlessly circling, landing on a building, taking off again, circling more… it’s hypnotic…
This video reminds me of great shows put on by the Vaux’s Swifts in Portland in late September. They number in the 10s of thousands and congregate at a huge defunct heating chimney at a school. As evening approaches, they swirl and swirl around the chimney, and with each swirl, some drop into the chimmey to roost. It looks a lot like dirty water going down a drain (sorry, not too poetic but pretty vivid.) They do this every night for about two weeks until the cold or rainy weather triggers their sudden departure for points south.

Oh my god, I think I could watch this for hours… They are so hypnotic… And what was inside that tree? Were the birds just playing or something?
I never get tired of sitting on the beach and watching seagulls fly in their endless spirals. They are definitely playing as they soar. This was a fine video and produced a number of good comments.

I agree with bartkr, I miss amanda. Also, the birds were cool and all but I think they should have maybe just been a side note on a regular episode with amanda. But whatever, maybe Amanda is taking a break or something.
Nice, but somehow a videocamera doesn’t capture the experience of being there. Maybe if it had been high-def.
Now that Amanda’s been “unBoomed, ” I guess I can delete Rocketboom from my RSS feeds. After all, if I wanted to see user-submitted videos, I’d just go to YouTube.
Yeah, I was depressed already by “correspondent week”, as I usually just skip correspondent reports anyway. I think it’s the non-professionalism about online vlogs that draws people to them, and as they get bigger and closer to standard media, they lose their magic. It was fun while it lasted.
I don’t think the content of correspondent week was below par or anything, but Amanda’s presence was the main draw of the show. Why fix it if it ain’t broke

I just watched the clip Jeff posted a few comments up that said Amanda, due to having 49% ownership of RB to Andrew’s 51%, was basically fired by him for undisclosed reasons.
As she was saying this, the map behind her was upside-down, which aptly describes how I feel about Rb minus AC.
Seriously, I hope you have a damn good reason for doing what you just did, Mr.Baron, because the fans feel sucker punched right now.
I, and most other fans, will come back and check RB.com from time to time, to see if there’s anything worth salt. But, w/out AC I gotta wonder if you can pull it off - Mr.Big shot.

Hey Nab, I understand where you are coming from however Amanda has never seen RB as a stepping stone, she really wanted to continue the show but refused to be “just the face” of Rocketboom which is what it came down to. If you think her leaving after being told she could only be the face is the act of a diva, then its fair for you to have your own opinion, but I would disagree.

Amanda was the reason that RB was so exciting. She was bursting full of energy and an awesome perspective of the news and anything else that was covered on RB.
Could you have been so bold as to tell Amanda that she was just the face of RB? She is obviously a multitalented person and you continually stating that she is moving to L.A. is annoying. Do you think that it’ll become real if you post it on the front page of your site? Did you totally lose your mind and forget that technology is portable? Are you that controlling of a person to mandate where a vlogger lives?
Worst case (well, at least to you) scenario: Amanda moved to L.A. and became a big star. She seems so genuinely interested in the power of vlogging that I don’t think that she would’ve walked away from RB. Plus, you have RB correspondents — even if she didn’t vlog everyday, you’d still have her as a part of the team.
I am sorry about whatever disagreement or hard feelings, but it seems as though the damage as been done. Just like a good waitress that was fired and goes to the diner down the street, Amanda is taking all her customers with her. It really seems like you dropped the ball, especially with your lack of timely input… I hope you learned your lesson. I’m mad myself, because I enjoyed submitting stories, but I won’t even bother copying and pasting anymore (unless Unboomed kicks off RB style). I think you’ll look back on this and wish that it wouldn’t have been this way. It really seems petty when you consider all the offers Amanda is receiving right now — blank check offers with tons of perks… what’s a girl to do? Nobody’s saying, “Poor Amanda” — they’re saying, “Poor Andrew, what is he going to do now?!”
There will be another RB soon if there isn’t already.
With Amanda’s departure, I predict that RocketBoom will go RocketBust, and will be out of business very soon.

This just doesn’t seem real. Almost like a dream. I just wish the whole issue would go away. When you have a site with similar trafic to CNN’s site why would you let this happen. Why would you let a great Actress/ Comedian go?

There was probably some pine cones or some kind of food in that tree (since it was an evergreen tree, it’s logical that it would have pinecones or seeds) and that’s why they all wanted in that tree.
Wonder with all those birds flying around if any of the folks had some dropping splashed on their head.
