great side departure from the m-f grind for you both, but it’s not complete, unplug from the internets and take a real vaca!
“and some refusing to pay”
makes me think these are some of the people debating about communication via mobile should be free
Does anyone else prefer when the correspondents have a story? It’s so nice to have good content delivered in a sane and comprehendable fashion.
Don’t get me wrong, I still think the regular content is good, but sometimes I could go without Amanda’s unsucessful attempts at humor and being quirky. Maybe take an acting class or something? Just a suggestion.
are we going to see something of amanda vacation perhaps mmmmhhhh….
WARNING: in ruud elmendorp site, frame51.com i downloaded a trojan from a pop-up
Nice report! Enjoy your vacation time Amanda and Drew!
Unfortunately attitudes about the disabled can be poor anywhere. Glad to see that these men are making the best of the situation by finding a niche that allows them to make a living.
Finding a payphone in the US is getting harder and harder. I wonder if on some level a similar concept would work here?
um this episode seems kind of phony. i saw one girl with a cellphone in her hand when she used the phone from these guys.
Interesting story on “mobile phones” in Narobi. Any chance Ruud Elmendorp could travel up to Mogadishu, Somalia (it’s not that far from Nairobi) and report on the new leadership/rulers/government. If you recall, Somalia is where Bill Clinton sent many of us who were in the armed forces and then pulled out when the going got tough. I hear the new people in power have relatively close ties to Al Queda.
p.s. If you thought Nairobi was underdeveloped, I wish I could share with you what life is like in Darfur or Somalia.
@rian: Late in the episode, the girl with her own mobile phone said something like “It’s cheaper to use than my mobile right now.”
Drew- I hear ya about needing a vacation, brother… we made two week’s worth of content this weekend so we can get ahead of ourselves and take it easy this weekend! I hope you have a great week.
Ruud- That was so fascinating… I never would have imagined it possible! The thing I like best about your piece is the music… it adds so much extra fun to the mix!
HAVE FUN GUYS! You deserve it.
Have a great vacation Amanda!
it is just such a story that does truly remind me of how the human spirit can rise and overcome ignorance. brings a smile to my face. thanks for the awesome report ruud and rb.
I love the field correspondents. They add a depth & realism that can’t really be captured in the studio. A week of material from the field is a fine idea and I can’t wait to see what else is in store. Now I really want to visit Africa. Rock on!
enjoy your vacation in the sun
It doesn’t take a lot to get a comment deleted from this board.
That’s OK — RB owns the club, so they have every right to choose who gets past the velvet rope.
Even so, it’s an oddly thin-skinned sensibility.
Thanks for the great report! It is interesting to see entrepreneurship at work in other parts of the world.
Cheers,
Connie
Sorry your not on vacation Amanda (and you wrote that like you were a little pissed).
As for entrepreneurship…I think the guys would do better if they pimped those bikes up a little.
Interesting story. Again this is something we’d otherwise never see, unless perhaps we lived in the Netherlands. I bet it isn’t even being aired in Kenya.
Incidentally, the USA is apparently becoming a police state. See here: http://infowars.com.
see you guys again in about a week or so, when things get back to ‘normal’, or what qualifies as ‘normal’ in the RB world.
I always like Ruud’s stories. Thanks.
I am always impressed with Elmendorp’s reports; he finds some truly remarkable stories in places most of us can’t imagine looking.
Man - you guys get most incredible stories from the field!! Color me impressed!
Great story today. What a treat: to go all the way to Nairobi and see what Ruud sees and experience something very new. Thanks.
I wonder at all the haters who post on this site. Is it jealousy that there ity bity little blog is not up rocketboom standards. Mmm something to think about.
You are really well thought out. I like how you introduce and question and then… well then nothing
Amanda isnt on vacation, she was fired by Fagdrew
