The steambot and snakebot were both original and interesting. The steambot reminded me of the fanciful inventions in the TV show and movie “Wild Wild West”. I enjoyed those portions of your report very much.
As you indicate, though, the arca musarithmica is hardly original. The concept has been available since at least the 16th century and was (I believe) perfected by F.T. Kaufmann in 1851 with his orchestrion, a “mechanical musical instrument, automatically played by means of revolving cylinders…. It comprises a complete wind orchestra, with the addition of kettle-drums, side-drums, cymbals and triangle.” The difference is that the rudimentary orchestrion in your report was made with “found” objects.

The last guy needs to take his bot to a toy manufacturer. Every electric toy I ever owned always tried to “fight” me when I handled it. It would be great if toys could be more lifelike–very much following the natural design elements already present in his animal like robot.

Innovation in musical (vis sound) often precede other innovations. From the calliope(Fulton), to vacuum tubes(Babbitt), transistors(Moog, et al.), and now, er, 20 years ago…. microprocessor control. I recognize the glasses, but apparently her makeup really conceals her nose.

Who thinks up these dumb topics. Could that host have been any gayer looking. I tell you. I think that rocketboom should give equal time to right wing ideas. It would make rocketboom more fair and balanced.
RocketBoom used to inspire me and get the pulse going a little bit. Lately, it’s just kind of sad. I know it’s VERY difficult to come up with good material every day, but RB is striking out for me more than it’s hitting doubles any more.

Also, RoboNexus is a pretty sweet new-ish trade show out in the Bay Area . Absolutely incredible robotics displayed there for hobbyists, industry, military, education, etc.

I get some of the comments that you are expecting to see Amanda and didn’t so you are disapointed but give the guy a break. He did try to act like Amanda a bit. Also she does need a break sometimes. I have only watched rocketboom in 2006 and a couple from 2005. What I wanna know is has Amanda been off sick for any long period of time. Like a week or two with the Flu. I had that once and could hardly move out bed for 8 days straight. It was AG-ON-Y.
Pretty interesting stuff, but if you’ve seen it on the MAKE Vlog before, you kinda feel ripped off.
I have to admit though, I havnt seen the snakebot on MAKE yet ;)
