And for those naysayers, I’d suggest they go watch grass grow … ;-)

  8. So you posed the question of whether the water thing would have much application… but in the article they list the most likely application: amusement parks and such. They’ll be able to make cool displays that integrate water, light, and sound effects.

    That’s cool, right?

  10. No one has mentioned that the avatar did the eyebrow raise! Fantastic.

I, too, loved JC the French privateer. Great pirate voice.

This episode made me laugh out loud three times! Not easy. Well done.

I’m glad JC explained the lack of internet access in the south of France. Some American netnerds don’t realize that some parts of the world have a life outside the internet. Don’t expect JC to “e-mail a video file” (see yesterday’s comments).

This also shows how hard Drew is working. Great job.

  19. The lack of Joanne in these pieces has proven to me that you need a good looking female host to hold my attention in the realm of vblogs…as pathetic as that is…an avatar is a paltry substitute for the sexy British kitten. Stories were interesting, sure, but intermittent shots back to a live version of the saucy Joanne put rocketboom above the average vblog. Without them, I feel unsatisfied.

How long’s her holiday gonna last?

  21. Interesting way to host the show, but I wouldn’t want to see that too much. In person host conveys much more personality than avatar. I liked the stories, too. I, too, had annoying trouble w/ that Russian hole link. Please do check your links before posting!

  26. Interesting stories, though I’d kind of like if you went into a little more depth. What’s the point of letting us know Russia has the biggest hole when you don’t tell us anything about it, really?

By the way, helping to confirm my theory that New Yorkers know next to nothing about American geography, especially when you venture away from the coasts, you have “Minnesota” misspelled in the story links.

When living in NYC I once had a New Yorker try to tell me that Ohio was between Indiana and Illinois. No, it’s not.

    Keep up the good work…

Nice way to post the same thing four times. And you say people who offer honest criticism because they want RB to be its best are annoying? Do you think that if you scream it loudly enough that will make you right? Can you not bear to hear an opinion other than you own?

Soo…Rocketboom can still function with Joanne in the south of France yet it couldn’t function if Amanda ever moved to L.A….interesting.”

Well, interesting is your post. Many people are critizicing that RocketBoom needs to have a life face, so in their opinion, it is not functioning (I’d disagree, but they are having some difficulties, as Drew said), however, the situation is not the same, whilst Amanda’s departure is not temporal, Joanne’s is.

    joe said:

“well…virtual hostesses never leave in an egotistical huff, right ?”

Amanda had her virtual stuff. Not exactly the same, but virtual nonetheless. Dig into the archives…

Changing subjects the cats were a bit scary (just kidding), and finally the word “Watermark” got a proper meaning.

  32. I haven’t been this erect since Soledad O’Brien used to banter with virtual Dev Null on “The Site” a decade ago.

But one does have to admire Drew’s industriousness on some level.

After losing one host who didn’t simply want to be “the face” of RB, and losing a second who apparently needed a Holiday after two weeks on the job, Drew has apparently decided it’s simply easier to create a face rather than keep a real one around.

Now that the head of the Philip K. Dick android remains missing, may I suggest Drew buy the “body” and simply have a new head constructed, perhaps an “if they mated” hybrid of Joanne and Amanda.

No one to talk back or make annoying requests of Drew, plus all the various fan bases should be satiated. May I suggest you christen her Jomanda (sorry Chris).

SORRY TO BE YELLING, BUT I’M TICKED! THE “HOLE” LINK WILL INSTALL SEVERAL TROJANS IF IT IS CLICKED. I LEFT A COMMENT 6 1/2 HOURS AGO REGARDING THIS. I CLICKED THE LINK AND MY COMPUTER GOT INFECTED. BECAUSE SEVERAL TROJANS WERE INSTALLED I DETERMINED THAT THE WISEST COURSE OF ACTION WOULD BE TO RELOAD MY HARD DRIVE.

I WOULD HOPE THAT ROCKETBOOM WOULD TEST LINKS BEFORE RELEASING THEM TO THEIR AUDIENCE OF 300,000. OBVIOUSLY THIS WAS NOT DONE.

WHAT IS TRULY UNFORGIVABLE IS TO LEAVE THE LINK STILL ON THE SITE AFTER SO MANY HOURS.

DREW, YOU ARE TREATING ROCKETBOOM AS IF IT IS A LITTLE HOBBY WEBSITE. IT HAS GROWN FAR BEYOND THAT POINT, AND YOU NEED TO BE RESPONSIBLE TO YOUR VIEWERS.

I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL VIEWER FOR A LONG TIME AND WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ONE, BUT MY CONFIDENCE IN YOU AND YOUR SITE IS SHATTERED WHEN YOUR NEGLECT LEADS TO THIS KIND OF CRAP.

In ref to the Trojan problem Drew said:
“I use an Apple and surfed the page again just now with both Safari and Firefox and had no problems.”
Ummm, maybe that’s why you had no problem, because you use an Apple. I’m sure most of the viewers visiting here use Windows, which is more susceptable to these kinds of things.

I gotta ask this you have a new host take off to France a week after she starts her new job with out a camera or without pre taping a few days worth of stuff for you to air in her absence and why is is she even in France? Like are you and Rocketboom playing second fiddle to some other job? You call this control wow 100% ownership & less control than when you had 51%! Andrew what are you doing?? 60. Ironic that you have no issue with holding Symantec Corporation and their imperfect products responsible to protect you from internet nasties, yet you won’t hold Drew responsible to test what he is linking to.

I have a firewall, an antivirus, and a spyware filter, and one of the trojans got my computer anyhow. No sure things in life.

I see Rocketboom as an important force in the future of the internet. If Microsoft posted a link with that much garbage attached to it there would be all hell for them to pay.

Rocketboom is the cutting edge of vbolgging. I realize that there are risks to using the internet. I expect the big players on the web to test what they are passing out to those who visit their web sites.

My main purpose in commenting was to get Drew to wake up and smell the coffee. If he wants to play with the big boys, he has to protect his assets the same way they do. To do otherwise will lead to the demise of Rocketboom.

That is someting that I don’t want to see happening, and I don’t think you do either Porkchop.

As for the remark about McDonalds, ridiculous.

Well, that’s one reason RSS Feeds were created. Automation of tasks (checking contents in this cases) is one big advantage of using computers. Rocketboom is RSS enabled, just for your information.

If he is taking time to air the episode, not rushing it, critics are flying anyway. So, no matter what he’s doing, people seems not to be ever satisfied. There are many ‘wait’ situations in life, I wonder how they will act in everyone of them…

Why don’t we wait until today’s RB episode is online. Then, you can free the bulls, if you wish so…

I am behind a firewall at work. Is there an official way of “testing” sites, even when there does not seem to be problems?

As usual, another good show on 26-July. In the past, RB 1.0 had some missing episodes, so I can forgive RB 2.0 if it cannot produce a new episode for 27-July. It’s crazy to complain about good stuff that is also free and done from the heart. I will check in later.
