I have given this a chance, sadly if this is what “Rockboom 2.0″ is then this was my last episode - I have loved Rocketboom but in my opinion Amanda was the show. Don’t even care why she left (all the he said-she said crap is getting old). I also know that 1 person not downloading it isn’t the end of the world - but Amanda leaving was the end of Rocketboom.

I am interested in seeing what you have to bring to the show. Amanda’s familar quirks were an endearing plus and strangely added a special audience connection.
Also, how about coming up with a background that fits with your personality - instead of Amanda’s.
We in the audience will stick if we feel like you are a part of our lives. I feel like Amanda did that.

With all the French refs (opening music, LaCoste shirt, speaking French), I thought it was Bastille Day. Eh, belated commemoration is better than none.
Things are going well. Joanne is looking more relaxed and comfy. Great blend pieces.
Suggestions:
1) Agree with post-prod. More “heat” will liven up the visual to offset Jo’s more toned down delivery.
2) Story idea: Website called Panjea. Just launched about a month ago. Like YouTube, but shares revenue with artists.
3) Aquaman is going to be a movie. Trailer has leaked onto internet before acutal release.
4) I like the “catching things from off-screen” gimmick. You’re very dextrous. Can you juggle?
5) How about a “boom”? Could mean anything. A “Boom” story of the week, complete with shaking camera and/or a graphic. Maybe too cheesy. Maybe also too much like TikiBar.
6) Maybe incorporate more rockets.
7) How about a music feature, or online music sites?
Hang in there, Joanne. Stiff upper lip and all that. (Urban translation: Ignore the haters)

If you’re going to use an old computer, pick something classy. I’m thinking a Commodore 128, an original Macintosh, or maybe even a Timex Sinclair. Yeah, dig that flat membrane keyboard!
Why is there a big bulls-eye near London (England) on the map? Canadians are peace loving people, and it makes me nervous.
And while we’re on the subject of the map, I would suggest finding something a little more cartographically interesting. The old Mercator projection is nice and all, but it’s so 16th century. Please consider the Aitoff Projection; the Briesemeister is also a fine projection.
is it just me or does joanne become more beautiful with each episode? but for the love of god the map has to change, it looks so flat and washed out!

Wasn’t a fan of RB until the big media blitz surrounding Amanda’s departure. Now I’m hooked. Don’t know if I would have stuck around for Amanda though.
Rocketboom 2.0 is progressing very well — the new content is at least as good as 1.0 and the new anchor is first-rate. My strong advice to Andrew: if you treat Amanda (and her 49% share of the business) with scrupulous fairness, then all be well. If you get greedy, then it will all go to the lawyers …
You are doing a great job. You seem to have found your groove. I agree with the green/blue screen comment. A company called Serious Magic makes a product that allows you change your background, via green//blue screen. That could add something to each show. Everyone is doing a great job.
Amanda, you are missed. Joanne you are doing well. Hope you stay around for awhile.

I am still way un-adjusted. I think, for this new British thing to work, it needs to adapt a sort of Monty Python-esque feel to it. Right now, it’s still a different person in the same situation. That’s not 2.0, that’s 1.5 (being generous here).
JoCo’s amazing, but right now she’s trying to be more like Amanda, and unfortunately it just isn’t happening. Make the real leap to 2.0, so it isn’t even comparable. That’s what needs to happen. That’s my two cents.
Rocketboom, hmm, getting use to this and find myself looking forward to the next show. Joanne, you’re very entertaining, keep up the good work. As the governor of my state California would say, “I’ll be back!”

On another order of ideas, I agree with Josh when he said there’s a lot of lack of respect towards Amanda. And I shoud add that towards Joanne too. I’ve seen certain comments about her that should’ve been erased inmediately, because they were insults.So, NOTE TO DREW: if before you controlled the contents of the posts on the comment section, you should do now. Perhaps the bad times that RB went through let that comment slip, but it was unacceptable. So have someone keep an eye. Lack of manners and insulting is uncalled and out of place (at least in my book of behaviour).
It is amazingly annoying how people think that when you like some host better, that means you are against the other. It’s only personal preferences. Nothing more, nothing less.

One other observation. Joanne’s references to this board “on air” reflect one truth–vlogs seem semi-interactive, personal, and imbued with a sense of justice.
Warning to Joanne. If it turns out Andrew did wrong by Amanda, ANY version of RB might implode. Consider: Amanda could become the story that won’t go away, the elephant in the room, especially if legal action ensues. The conflict may not continue to make popular media, but the blogosphere will know.
Consider reconciliation as a course of action. Imagine an RB with Amanda AND Joanne. Hmmm.

I’m a big fan of Rocketboom when Amanda was in the chair, and beside that episode with the tiki bar I’ve enjoyed the v2.0 as well. But to get truly unique from the all loved Amanda as host - scrap the backdrop. Put a big Rocketboom logo or something on.
Count me as one of those that only discovered RB as a result of its foray into mainstream media via Amanda’s exit. I spent time looking over some of the version 1.0 stuff, and found it enjoyable. Amanda was quirky, and although the clicking and hair flipping might have been a bit overboard, I appreciated the implication that she never took herself too seriously. For whatever reason, it worked for me.
I also find the version 2.0 enjoyable to watch–Joanne, in my completely non-expert estimation, I believe you’re doing quite well. Please keep up the good work. I very much look forward to seeing what type of personalized “stamp” you put on the RB brand. Andrew, please keep her around for a good long time to come.
The past and present hosts are different people, and therefore will have non-equivalent impacts on the program–but I don’t see one as being “good” and another as being “bad”–it’s all just entertainment, and is there if we wish to watch. I’ll continue watching.
However, what I find fascinating is watching this new medium attempt to find a footing somewhere between the internet “subculture” and the mainstream pop culture. With the booming array of available vlogs, it will be incumbent upon RB to find a niche (maybe a Nietzsche) that works for Joanne, plus has wide enough appeal in order to continue to draw viewers in. The opportunity for recruiting new viewers (via the afore-mentioned update from v1.0 to v2.0) will rapidly recede.
Not that my programming comments are of any extreme value, but for what it’s worht, here’s my $0.02:
Don’t try to change too many things at once–if there really is a brand, changing lots of stuff may change the brand, which may alienate existing viewers.
I don’t really think of this as a News program, so much as an Opinion/Editorial program–find an editorial slant, and go with it. This may help to focus the product. Because of the production methods, it can never be as immediate as mainstream news, so rather than reporting, editorialize.
This has gone on too long, but please keep up the good work.

I think Joanne is a good host but Amanda was a GREAT host….and tossing the clicker was so expected and predictable. It leads me to believe that Amanda was the creative juice of Rocketboom. And I’ll definitely be gone if she insists on doing articles in the most annoying language ever created, French. Amanda was Rocketboom, sorry to see her go….good luck Joanne.

I have to say, I liked the TI-99/4A being used as the prop to visually represent the transitions. I really liked it at the beginning when Amanda would plug in the game cartridges as if she was loading the clips. It was great.

I think that privacy booth is just a big “cover-up” for people who have “hang-ups” with their phone! Oh, perhaps I shouldn’t take that “tone” - I know one thing though, if you get more than one person in one of those things, you’d better hope they both used their “Dial”.
The “auto” grinder was probably convenient for those special road kill opportunities… I wonder if using this device frequently would just turn into the same old grind after a while? I guess wheel never know for sure.

SO sad that egos have to get in the way of a successful (even seminal) venture. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Amanda bury Rocketboom. Would serve Barton right. Jerry Jones (owner of the Dallas Cowboys) said anyone could win a Super Bowl with the team Jimmy Johnson won back to back Super Bowls with (forget Johnson put it together). Jones found one coach, who barely one one… Cowboys haven’t even sniffed around a super bowl in over a decade.

The trash 80 is a good idea. I’ve been wondering whether it, the c64, or atari 8 bit computer would replace it. My 5 year old likes to play RB. I set him up with ti-99, cart, and stack of papers and he riffles through them like he’s ready the rb news. I’m just waiting now to which system I have to pull out for him now.
