Heh heh, that there robot shore has a purty mouth.
Was that bronze car a Superbird? Simply lovely.
I went to the CES a few times in an earlier life. Seeing this montage brought home to me how much things have changed, how much the whole notion of “consumer electronics” has evolved.
If you stood there holding up a thousand-dollar bill and offering it to the first person who could produce a casseettee recorder, how long would it take?
COOL!!! Can’t get tired of that dirty natural vs sleek industrial juxtaposition between the music an images. (Ooops, thinkin’ too much) It’s just cool!
My kayak is named “Deliverance” (only in Russian Cyrillic). It’s supposedly bad luck to rename your vessel, so “Rocketboom” and “Amanda” will have to wait for future stream floaters.
Fine stills and editing by the crew. This is one of the few video streams that I MUST scroll back on and pause.
I feel for the poor bastard who had to edit that whole thing. That must have taken forever. Very cool clip.
So, in short, you got your head spun around a bit, eh?
The music is ‘dueling banjos’ … feudin’ is what the Hatfields and McCoys did.
Seriously, was that Kevin Bacon?
Dear folks,
I applaud the way you expose your viewers to such an eclectic variety of music - yesterday, a strange, but interesting, electronic medley — today a nice banjo piece that evokes thoughts of big scarey people doing strange things in the woods.
Nice work. You should be proud.
Hey Drew,
Anything stick out at the show that looked like a big leap in any direction? Fun show today.
I WANNA BE AT CES! This site as well as other sites are just taunting me!
Then again, if I went I would probably come home ready to spend a zillion dolllars on new/cool stuff.
Maybe after I win the lottery I will go.
I was wondering how you were going to distill such an experience as CES into three minutes. Brilliant!!!!!!! And my hat’s off to the editor.
delusions of banjer
Very nice clip: artistic and entertaining. But…how about a report or opinion or highlights on the stuff you thought was the coolest or, I don’t know, something a little more informative? We, the general public, aren’t allowed to go to this thing, and we want to know about it! Thanks :)
More like “Dueling eyeballs.” I didn’t know if I should look up or down, left or right, blink in between or do the hokey-pokey!
Tylenol should set up a booth, just in case of techie cardia.
Very cute. After vidy-ing the numerous redneck compilations to the tune of “Battling Banjos” on the web, this version in High Tek is refreshing to say the least. It is just borderline sarcasm. BTW Rocketboomers, are we all set for Mardi Gras? I am going over there to spend some mulla and get really kaboshed to help the Katrina victims (it’s a win-win situation) and would look forward to giving Amanda all my beads ;)
Shoot, I blinked.
Love that Banjo Music YeeeeeHawwww
Have fun at the show
Just to show you there is more than one kind of geek watchin’ Rocketboom…
Feudin’ Banjos — picked by Eric Weisberg I believe — is the original version of the tune in in the old timey “clawhammer” style.
Duelin’ Banjos, made famous in Deliverance, was picked in the three finger style developed later by Earl Scruggs.
If you watch the movie Deliverance, the scary looking inbred boy plays the banjo in clawhammer style, but the producers overdubbed the soundtrack in three finger style.
An episode without Amanda Congdown, I dunno.
Electronics are cool, but an electronic Amanda Congdon, hard to find.
Mary me Amanda, when I’m famous, marry me.
Wow. That spyware is really making me look crazy. It keeps telling me to resend my data.
Let me use some ad-sense, or some general sense.
Viva Las Vegas !
Viva Las Rocket Boom !
Kudos Congdon! Well presented! You deserve your own cable show.
Yeehaw! That thar clip is just pure jeanyus! CES went bah quicker than uh greased pig on squeels… Jeanyus!
Brilliant!
Did you do that by hand or with something like muvee?
I was hoping for more in-depth reporting. Are you planning a follow up episode?
You guys are great!
Xcellent piece, smart, funny, creative….
A grateful canuck!
Cheers
That song brought a tear to my eye. DangIt. The National Anthem.
Makes me want to squeal like a pig.
I love robots but dueling banjos….. the downfall of bluegrass. But like always I loved it.
Hey thanks for including my CES 2006 photos in your video. It was my first time there and a total blast. If you want to see more CES 2006 photos check out the Flickr tag CES2006 sorted by most interesting: http://flickr.com/photos/tags/ces2006/interesting/

WOW… that must have taken a lot of patience in editing!
Well done,
Kitka
kaleidoscope after seeing Amanda!
Terrific editing! who did it? best yet.
Thanks for being here.
Ross
Cool, one of my pictures appear there, with no credit, sucky
Nice post with backdrop music so in synch
CES .. we all wish we were there
I loved the music on this one.
what a GREAT production!!! The A/V timing was a thing of beauty.
WOW! I’m textless.
You guys continue to be the best. Nice mind-pack.
Because of the DELIVERANCE music, John Boorman was given a framed gold record, but it was later stolen by the Dublin crime lord Martin Cahill. When Boorman made THE GENERAL (1998) about Cahill, he put in a scene dramatizing the theft of the record, showing Cahill removing the record from the wall in Boorman’s house. Boorman commented, “In 1981, the police said, ‘We know who did it, but we can’t prove it.’ One of the things he stole was this gold record which I had for the music from DELIVERANCE. He thought it was made of gold. He didn’t know much about record companies. I put that in the film.”
Can only add to the other similar comments. That is one heck of a bit of editing, and timed to the music too! Must have taken hours.

My finger hurts, was I the only one hitting it every frame to pause the video? :]
Things I loved this CES:
-iPod waterproof case.
-Sanyo VPC-HD1 SD camcorder, and other Sanyo SD camcorders (they take pictures while you’r filming)
-.. thats it.
btw whats up with this link:

Andrew/Amanda - Thanks for including my images! (btw, you misspelt my name in the thanks bit…).
Jeremi - yup, that was Kevin Bacon, performing at the XM Radio booth with his band “The Bacon Brothers”. They were pretty good.
If anyone wants to check out the rest of the images I took, please slide on over to http://www.flickr.com/photos/randomimages/sets/1751169/
Cheers!

That crazy CES clip is the last straw and is clearly a slam against the Bush, Chaney, Rove triumvirate. Your personal vendetta against the Republicans is too much and I can’t tolerate anymore.
GAD!

Nice. Really nice. I liked the music.
lol, funny clip that looks like an awful lotta work ;-)
Yes: No words. What a nice banjoclip. Great!
Hey Amanda… was that you on the Tiki Bar, episode 12? I was just watching that episode and could have sworn you were briefly shown. Hmmmm, is that kinda sad that I’d notice that or what? Don’t answer that.
I loved the CES wrap-up and I love that I can get Rocketboom on my Tivo.
I guess they only had proto-type tele-transporters there this year. So you couldn’t be instantly be whisked back to NYC for today’s episode. Oh, well, maybe next year. Another masterpiece.
That was artistic but I rather see Amanda do her quirky news story “thang”.
That was awesome!
Great job, but would be nice if you acknowledged the original:

the bpn sumer party invite.
great clip - i assume the deliverance/pig/kevin bacon link was unintentional??!!
Simply the kewlest! Great work!!!
