Wow. Rocketboom is getting good again.
Finally.
Love the new format. Matches my new monitor :D:D
Good stuff
Meunzie? Is that how you pronounced Muncie, IN? Us Hoosiers are easily insulted, so watch it the next time you mention any of our other illustrious cities like Peru, Brazil, and Alvarado!
back to perfection !
;-)

Finally, Guitar Hero is getting recognition! Great review yesterday amanda, but when will we see you rock out? I am a big fan of the guitar hero game and what it can teach us and our kids. guitar hero is more than just a video game, it is a teaching tool featuring hand/eye coordination, competitive cooperation, and exercise (if your a rocker like me). Thanks for a great new program!
Basra is pronounced with an emphasis in the B, not the R, and the S is pronounced like S, not Z.
Was the sound off track today? never had real problems, maybe with earlier episodes
Love the new format, but then I love just about everything you do. :-) But what’s up with the repeating comments?
What I want to know is why there are so few “girls” at technical schools like Georgia Tech and MIT. The article quotes:
“Thirty years ago men represented 58 percent of the undergraduate student body. Now they’re a minority at 44 percent.”
Since college is basically the norm and there are more women than men in general, 44% makes sense on a purely statistical basis. I’m curious how this breaks down into the levels of difficulty each gender takes on in college; going to a party school is not the same thing as attending Stanford. I would argue that it’s possible for girls to perform better than boys in early school, but I wonder if that holds out for higher education. I’m not saying guys will come out better, I just think that the statistic alone doesn’t say much, and I’d like to see a more detailed breakdown.
I have volunteered each year with a middle school Lego robotics competition sponsored by Gatech, and I see girls participating in these technical activities just as much as boys. They’re in there testing the robots and reprogramming them while the guys watch. However, once we reach our 20’s, it seems like many less girls are interested in technical subjects, and I can’t figure out why. I can only guess that it’s not a lack of capacity to understand these subjects, but rather a society that shuns “nerdiness” in favor of other (easier?) subjects, and that girls might be more susceptible to peer pressure than guys. Or that could be completely wrong - any ideas?
I know that Amanda is paid to do what she does, but she seems to have a genuine interest in the subjects at hand, which is why it’s so much fun to watch these broadcasts. However, why is it a rarity these days for “girls” to explore technical subjects like the ones covered here?
I love when you’re a train.
I hear the internal name for new widescreen video ipod may be the “nEwton”. Appple may also be considering a limited number of special edition flat-black cases for the device as they just happen to have a few million in storage left over from an earlier project….
I too write myself notes.
“Open egg carton and check for cracked eggs; if you see chick get her number”

Eons ago when I was in college (UNC)the ratio was three men to every woman. Not only did I view this as unfair, but also very inconvenient.
Today it’s 50/50, but who cares now?
SteveL, shut up.
Amanda, boys could be stupider. But we are by far richer than any women who has gained her assets without inheriting the money or getting the money from a man.
So..We own
Brad
I love the way you say Muncie. Keep up the good work.
Hi,
I am not sure that this is the right place about the feeds, but I have discovered that every item of the telephone 3gp xml contains huge amount of enclosures and they have the same guids.
Szabolcs
Hm..
is there a 1080i version of rocketboom maybe available as a torrent feed? url?
The UK google map sighting was a crop circle: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crop_circles
Oh, I get it now.
RB=Rocketboom.
Kept hearin’ Arby’s.
I knew you’d do it!!! Advertising ploys on T-shirts, remember the Trix Bunny T-shirt?
And the Einstein Robot, what was the designer thinking? Wouldn’t it have been easier to put on Micheal Jackson?
Anyways great show :)
What is it with bloggers in general that think people actually care about what you think?? I live for the day blogs DIE! Opinions are like assholes, everybodies got one. Nice collection of nerdy women btw.
Hey… cool show, I used to love getting it on my phone- but since you changed the camera, it appears you also changed the compression. While the old episodes work fine, all the new ones have the video and audio out of sync, albeit better video quality. Go back to the old compression!
Amanda, Drew, I would like to know:
What do you guys do for a living?
RB obviously doesn’t pay the bills and I gotta wonder how you guys are able to stay so dedicated to something like this when you must be doing other stuff too…
Nice show today
I found you over the weekend, and while I hate to admit that I watched a large chunk of the last two year’s worth of Rocketboom, I enjoyed every minute! (Or should I say every 3 minutes!!!)
Anyway, the new format is awsomee, and I thought I’d give you a little joy in the form of song to fit your women are smarter story…

You may be too young to remember this classic, popularized amongst hippies by the Grateful Dead!
Keep up the excellent work…!!!
Yeah, it’s MUHN-SEE. Not Meunsee. I got to school here currently at Ball State.
Oh, and boys aren’t less smart than girls–the system is obviously flawed and treats boys as defective girls. Need proof? Look at the real world beyond absorbing a chapter of info and spitting it back out for a test.
Just wanted to let you know that the link to “microsoft origami” is broken:
http://marcogizmo.com/microsoft-origami/%22
- you have an extra ” there.
Well, looking at the source it seems like you are missing a ” right after href=
Girls are smarter, duh.
At the risk of repeating myself…
Vintage episode.
Boys aren’t stupider per se, they’re just easily distracted by girls.
Please note that although I’m squiffy my spelling is virgo intacta.
Mwah!
love the widescreen.
am i the only one who noticed the tan?
LoVe the new format. It’s larger brighter and Amanda’s eyes completly absorbed me. I had to view the second time just to hear the content. Whoa!
Ok, I just watched the full video of the Einstein-bot. If you think it’s creepy when it’s got its hair and full body casing on, watch as they adjust the thing, sans hair and chest plate, and it twitches and flinches as if in pain.
CREEEEEEPY!!!!(I need to go back a couple of days and freeze-frame on ’sweet’ Amanda to get that cyborg image out of my head)
Please try Google Video. I want to watch Amanda in full screen! I don’t like watching these postage stamp size Quicktime movies.
I have a gmail label called note2self. emails with the subject line: note2self bypass my inbox and land here for future reference.
Jonathan, Mark, and Gomer Pyle all mentioned broken sound.
I like the HD format but for both of them I’ve had choppy video and broken sound. Yesterday’s was so bad I could only watch about half before giving up. I assumed it was my network (will happily blame Comcast too) but perhaps rb was getting too many hits at the time, or QuickTime 7.0.3 on XP can’t handle the format. I had the same results on multiple machines.
i like einstein………….
Wow! Your teeth are so white. Have you entered superstar status?
If girls are smarter than boys, how come you have got more boys than girls following your blog? Seems to me that this blog’s readership contradicts those results.
‘Manda, I hope you are going to cover the syndicate conference for us! It looks great. And in my fav’rite NYC hotel, The Roosevelt!
But us guys can still pee standing up. Then again, I guess girls can too, and there are probably some websites dedicated to that…
ps. anyone else watching the Einstein robot immediately think of Futurama?
