At $1.00 each, Throwies seem a little pricey to be sticking on a wall hundreds at a time.
I WONT ONE!!
Interesting. I didn’t catch what is used as a power source, but since L.E.D.s only require .7 volts and not much current, I suppose you can have hours of fun with these things. Congradulations to the one who dreamed these up - simple, yet, brillent.
Weird… You, Americans are crazy sometimes…
great music by the way..

Like I said yesterday, wait for the next batter and you might get a home run, or something like that. This was one of those at bats.
What a great nuisance too. Does anyone realize how hard it is to create new great nuicances? Not easy. I can’t wait to see this turn up on COPS some night where gangs of LED throwie throwers are apprehended roaming the streets of some boring suburban backwater capturing all the evidence on video tape.
Pretty…
Shiny…
And the LED’s looked cool too :-)
To some it may for now only seems frivolous and rather innocuous, but it has to be explored and process it to determine its value content.
Or could be the reincarnation of: “The Thousand Points of Light” that Papa Bush mentioned eons ago?
Very cool stuff, great music too.
this throwies are much similar as the pixel throwies amanda throws to our screen each day, ohhh
Wow, I always knew Amanda was attractive, but I never realized she’s magnetic! :-)
The biggest worry I have about this new graffiti deal is the environmental impact. Batteries are harmful and should be properly disposed of. I’m glad that they’re kinda expensive to make, so this wont catch on.
What about the environmental consequences of all those little batteries corroding and releasing chemicals? And what about birds and other animals that might get into them???? Don’t we have enough environmental problems already?
I always worry about our sweet Amanda when she hooks up with these different types of gangs who run through the streets of New York doing whatever it is they do. Last time it was some group who ate food out of the trash and now this LED gang business. What next, I ask you ??!!
I must chime in and agree, as beautiful as this type of installment is, I cannot get over that many lithium batteries just being tossed willy-nilly into the environment. It’s really rather depressing that people have no clue exactly how bad an idea this is… and they freely just toss these toxins all over their neighborhoods. Please don’t come to mine.
“And the QUEEN speaks!” bow down and apologize all you birkenstockers. RELAX - I’m sure Cheney will kill you before willy-nilly batt tossing.
by the way… do we still say willy-nilly? I must be out of the loop.
Why don’t you stop crying about those batteries and worry about something REALLY dangerous like, oh, being a friend of the Vice President.
Bright Lights, Big City!! Bring ‘em on, Willy-Nilly!
I can’t wait till next Halloween. I’m going to go as a Christmas Tree or as a Starry Sky or a Lite Brite. Oh the fun we’ll have!
well its almost a Manda dance episode: it’ll do.
Throwies are cool…especially when you put velcro on them and throw them at stray cats. Almost as much fun as tying fireworks to their tails!
I’d still rather go hunting with Dick Cheney than go driving with Ted Kennedy; or flying with Kennedy’s nephew!
must’ve been a slow news day, damn that was wack…as in retarded. damn. rocketboom has tipped. d’oh.
man…i’m trying to get over it, but com’n. it offends me that this passes as acceptable. these comments…yak! montage this is not!— can’t wait til mun-day.
PURDY LIGHTS!! I LIKE ‘EM.
NICE BULBS
LUV, eyebulb
Amanda!
The question is not whether you picked them up or not! Your promoting a fad where it is likely that many people will not pick them up as you so consciously do. Think girl, your better than this!
Anonymous Coward
Dear Anonymous Coward,
I posit that the people most likely to not clean up after an orgy of throwie mayhem are also least likely to spend the several hours needed to create a supply of the little darlins.
And a query for our Rocket Goddess: being as I live in Florida, I am curious as to the nature of such a large, metal structure around a house. Pray what is it?
40,000 LED Throwies. $40,000 dollars well spent. Thanks, TRM!
A dollar per throwie? Time for another Rocketboom ebay auction!
I got a box full of batteries, just need LEDs and magnets. Oh how I wish we still had that Wacky Willy’s surplus store out here.
Amanda, I have no problem with these lights at a party, or as a personal adornment, and I have no doubt that you would pick them up if you were tossing them around, but how, if they’ve been thrown 15 or 20 ft up onto the side of a building, can you gaurantee that they will be recovered?
In response to Rick, while these batteries are not greatly toxic as far as leaking or corroding is concerned, there are other environmental impacts to consider that have nothing to do with hugging trees or Hearts a’ Bleeding. You think it’s harmless for them “squirles” to eat batteries? How about your kid, or your niece or nephew?
The National Institue of Justice has this to say (via http://site.greenbatteries.com/documents/Battery_Guide.pdf): “Do not allow direct bodily contact with battery components.
…
Lithium can cause an explosion if it
comes into contact with water. overheating can result if the battery’s
terminals are shorted by contact with
such metal objects.”
I’d say that’s a pretty clear precaution, and a good reason not to throw these things around your neighborhood.
Eric
I am glad that the “No Fun Society” has weighed in once again. Keep up the good work.
And Amanda, you just keep on finding new things to show us. Oh, and have fun doing it.
Happy to see that there is another Ronan out there. I’m curious to know where you are from. If you read me …
Anyway, those little throwies are funny … but obviously they will create garbage and pollution, as every little technological thing we produce.
But I doubt it will become a serious environmental concern … we are doing worst things and there are more important issues to be delt with to protect the environment.
So follow this RB’s casual friday and begin this week-end with fun and happiness.
Life is good. Enjoy.
Holy Moly!!
What a bunch of over excited people, over excited over nothing.
There will always be something going on somewhere that is 100 times worse than what Amanda showed us. Amanda just showed it to us, It is up to us to be responsible, like in our everyday lives.
She showed us something cool that most of us would never see anyway. What percentage of us will actually assemble these lights. Now that I’ve seen them, I don’t feel the need to do to the work of assembling them.
They’re neat, and cool, and different.
Thank you, Amanda, You Rule!!
Nice! Home Run!

We will do this in Tokyo sometime in the future then,of course we’ll pick them up afterwarads.
Yo Tycobrahe,
“No Fun Society” was a stupid comment. Having fun and keeping our neighborhoods safe are both possible.
Your probably one of those that endorse fun at any expense… which is a sad little simplistic view which no one cares to hear about.
I advocate having fun and keeping our neighbourhoods safe by forcefeeding these deadly throwies to hoodlums and ne’erdowells. We should also make those whose generalise broadly without significant provocation copy out the Kyoto treaty repeatedly (on recycled paper). Otherwise I am generally of the view that fun should be as cheap as possible.
I haven’t heard the “graffiti is art” crowd weighing in yet. Or was that just an ’80’s thing. I love the level of up-tightness that this board attracts. It is so unique in its own weird way. Ya’all sure do know how to get yoru panties in a bunch. I’d be amused at the comments that certain cartoons would attract. Bet that would be off the chart. But, hey Viva la Boom!
Spammers go to hell…
Great RB, very colorfull!
Hmm, I guess it’s a sign that you have truly made it. The spambots have found you. :-)
