Great music!
Great art!
What, no rioting in the streets?
Get this man an exhibition in New York!
Very interesting. His work reminds me of the urban murals used in the old sitcom ‘Good Times’. I wonder if there is any connection.
I like the back ground music.
Bonjour Africa
I really like this one! Thank you Amanda! But I totaly agree on Williams post! Say; -”in Nairobi, Kenya”.
Keep up the good work! / from Sweden!
Beautiful artistry, God has blessed so many with such great talents. Thanks for sharing.
I like it. that man from us is very bad man and painter like to tell it is so.
Wonderful piece!
I enjoy the diversity in subject matter and issues that Rocketboom covers.
Keep up the good work.
Fantastic!
This episode is hitting home quite like not other one.
I do also paint but…it is totally from another point of view, basically it is more about color interaction and the borderline between realism and abstract.
And of course it is very safe subject matter, I keep and save my political views to the ballot box.
Cheers!

That music swells my heart…Thanks
Wow, is it casual Friday already?
(just kiddin’, great show. He’s the Howard Finster of Kenya.)
Music was great. Art as a valid political statement– Right on! Power to the Painter! Just don’t make any Prophetic statements, eh?
Any way to find out who’s music was in the video? It was terrific.
Wow. I might not like his style, but this guy’s got some real talent. Nice feature.
TeraLink Was Here! ;-)
Amanda,
Will you go out with me? :)
Nick
The hostess is very beautiful same as her programs,i like this rocketroom and hope you can found more interesting stories and things, thank you for your hardwork.
The art reminded me of Jan Marinus Verburg’s illustrations in The Island Of Nose.
Marius, the art for Good Times was created by Ernie Barnes. It also gave me a feeling of Max Beckman.
The art was great, but he totally ripped off “Where’s Waldo”
I find some similarities between the art of this artist and the Haitian art. Cool art!
Was just checking in on the ole auction and I noticed the current high bidder (dave-texas) to have a slim 32 auctions under his belt, a little suspicious for a $15,000 bid. Two of his last last 3 purchases were velvet Elvis posters and the third, a wireless router. Reality is the most poignant poetry sometimes. Perhaps his velvety, wireless intentions include subletting the time to yet another auction.
Elmendorp’s clip had a couple of explanatory titles, that added a little more information. Here in their full, freshly translated glory:
“In this painting by Bertiers, former Kenyan president Moi shines the shoes of UN chairman Kofi Annan.”
“Bertiers painted amongst others portraits of the ‘mighty and powerful’. One of them John Garang, the vice-president of Sudan who recently died in an accident.”
“Bertiers paints his portraits in this studio he built himself in a village called Dagoretti, just outside Nairobi.”
great paintings. pretty music.
This was a fab piece with terrific music, to boot! Nicely done.
I enjoyed this episode.
This is an example of why I still subscribe and watch.
Oh the Kenyan Song is not called Kenya…it’s called Nakei Nairobi…if you’re going to look for that song like i did!
